I was curious to know how there is another flying Bison and lemurs. Weren't Momo and Appa the last of their kind? That has me confused. I think it was mentioned during last year's SDCC panel, but Mike and Bryan kind of wrote it off as Appa was really a girl and had babies after the show ended (?) and/or Aang went traveling around the world again and found a hidden colony of lemurs somewhere. Something like that! But hopefully it'll be mentioned in-show somewhere. I must not have been paying attention during Katara and Tenzin's conversation in the beginning of that ep, but aww -- that's so sweet that his siblings were named after Kya and Bumi! ;_; Also loving the theories for the monks seen on Air Temple Island. But yeah, Bryke has mentioned before that the Kataang kids could only be Airbenders, Waterbenders, or non-benders. I guess not even Avatar lineage can alter those genetics.

Any one else notice the advancement in technology? So far i saw, electricity, radio, cameras with flash, and cars. That's some really advanced technology compared to the first series. I'm guessing the electricity mostly comes from coal fire plants since that's what the fuel of choice was for the fire nation.
It wouldn't be too far of a stretch if they had telephones too.

Yeah, I get what you mean about the fanfic thing, especially with the Promise comics. Several fanfiction writers had written about the next conflict being over the Fire Nation colonies before any news about the comics had even been released, so who knows, maybe Bryke actually reads fanfics O.o. Then again, it doesn't take too much creativity on anyone's part to imagine that Aang and Katara would name their kids after lost loved ones. *and while I don't mind the cars and radio seeing as they did have airships and giant mechanical drills in ATLA, I am sorta glad they don't have guns. It just doesn't fit right :/.

Did anyone NOT notice it? Someone else also questioned the existence of guns... It would make sense that they don't exist since it's still a cartoon and all, but it doesn't make sense that electricity was founded before gunpowder. but then again, guns would make the whole Avatar universe upside-down. Anyway, I also felt that the show was a good "continuation" to TLA. In TLA, we see Aang learning/mastering Fire, Earth and Water. In TLOK, Korra starts off as a master of all the elements except Air. So pretty good that throughout the whole Avatar journey we get to see how benders practice all the elements.

@muso I'm pretty sure Aang found a herd of Sky Bison in hiding; Appa is still definitely male. Makes sense honestly, we already know that Sozin was actively wiping out the Dragons; why not do the same for Sky Bisons, who could only be actively helping his enemy? If there are still a few Dragons around, I don't think it's that unreasonable for there to be some Sky Bisons left, too. @nandi Yeah, the names are a bit eh. Honestly, I'm surprised Aang went for Bumi over Kuzon. Kya might work if she was actually a water bender, but I don't really see any reason to name a kid Bumi other than legacy. Heck, Bumi was probably still kicking when that kid was born! Strange...

In this episode I really found myself becoming a huge fan of pro bending, I would love to be able to do that. And can I just say something about the music in this show so far? LOVE IT! And it seems to me that a love triangle has already come forward it will be interesting to see what happens with all of that. Tenzin's kids just get cuter and cuter with the lines like "Yeah daddy, you're a horrible teacher" as he runs off throwing wood, and his daughter "I will make no such promise"
I'm loving this show so far, and I cannot wait to see some more.

I just watched the episode online; I liked it a little bit more than Welcome to Republic City even though it didn't really delve any further into the anti-bending movement(s), but that's alright. I'm patiently waiting to see how the plot opens up. I wished to see a little more interactions between Korra and the new characters Mako and Bolin, but I'm sure that will come along as the series continues.
lol I'm so impatient

Yeah, the first ep did have the really cool fire bending scene, but in this episode (since now we have the back drop of the first and knowing how Korra's personality is), the whole struggle to air bend and the tension between Korra and Tenzin on the wanting to go to the city to see the probending tournaments, made me like it so much more. I love toward the end when Tenzin finds Korra is in the probending match and goes to get her. After comfronting her and then seeing her start to weave like an airbender would ... the best part is when he goes "woohoo!" after they win, and then controls himself ... Hahaha! that was awesome! Because he is so stoic ... I laughed so hard! Yes ... I was actually surprised a little that it was Jinora who said that, lol, I thought maybe Ibiki (is that her name?) would be more likely to say a line like that ... and the way she said it!! All calm and cool.

So pretty good that throughout the whole Avatar journey we get to see how benders practice all the elements. It makes plenty sense to me. We need to realize that because of bending the world of LOK has different needs and wants than our civilization's ever did. (Even if they were a carbon copy of our world, there would still be no guarantee they would come to the same technological discoveries we made.) Gunpowder wasn't used for guns at first, it had variety of different uses, not to mention that gunpowder itself was only apparently discovered by men looking for immortality. In any case I seem to be rambling so i'll swing this back to the episode at hand. I am loving the series so far, but I do have one concern... It feels rushed. I don't mean rushed like quality wise, but plot wise. I feel everything is moving a bit too fast, like they wanted to toss korra into the plot as quickly as possible without much backdrop. Other than that I am really looking forward to seeing the roaring twenties mixed eastern spirituality. That is quite the mix.

Any Firefly fans out there who chuckled at the title, and then soon started crying because of whose death it reminded them of?

Mike and Bryan have said in interviews that the show is very lean, so there won't be much filler at all. Or, at least for this season. Maybe next season they'll slow it down a bit since it'll have more episodes. Any Firefly fans out there who chuckled at the title, and then soon started crying because of whose death it reminded them of? Yup. Never forget.

I wanted to put a comment on this: I think the reason why they have all the shots zoomed like that is so you can see each bender fighting, because if you think about it, the ring that they are fighting in is only so big. So to see, say Korra, whip some water at an opposing player, it would be hard to see just her bending it. If they animated it zoomed out, your attention would be split all over the arena. So I'd say they animated just the probending matches this way, although it looks as if they are incorporating the old series way in there too, I can see in the initial trailer that a few of the clips are pulled away. But personally I like it. It makes the fight scenes more dynamic. I think it was sky bison that he found, and probably lemurs too.

Good episode. I like Tenzin and his daughters. I'm finding it really hard to get into it with Meelo, though. His head is shaped way weird and he's coming across as more of a brat than a goofy kid to me. Contrast to Tenzin's younger, hyperactive, cheerful, and talkative daughter, who makes me smile every time I see her, and the older, bookish one won a place in my heart with "I will make no such promises."
Anyway, I was kind of skeptical at first when I read that bending will be a spectator sport, but watching a couple of matches in this episode, I can't help but feel that maybe this could be a sport I could get behind, like professional wrestling or football, even if it's only a minor aspect of the show.
Anyway, I'm liking the character development they put on Tenzin, and I'm looking forward to seeing more of Bolin and Mako as the show goes on.
