I've been thinking about getting an iPod.
But how do you put shows and music on there?
Is it as simple as plugging in the device via USB and dragging the music/show file onto the device just as you would with any old USB memory card?
Would I be a hipster if I get one?

lol it almost surprises me when someone says they don't have an iPod... so in that sense, it's not very hipsterish because I think a lot of people have them.
Anyway, it's pretty simple to put music, tvs & shows on there. You will do all of this via your iTunes library. Apple has some pretty easy how to's on their website if you want specifics. The only thing you have to do is make sure the shows is in a format that will translate to your iPod - at least it was when I used to do videos on my iPod. iirc, I believe it was .mp4 format or something. Look it up, it'll tell you. Then just drag it to your iTunes library and sync your iPod.
Music is much simpler, just drag the file (your iPod should be compatible with all music files, especially since most are in either .mp3 format) to iTunes, sync your iPod, et voila.
Like I said, it's very straightforward. My technologically inept parents can do it, so you should be fine. If you encounter any difficulties, Apple has a plethora of troubleshooting tips to help you out.

So it's not drag n' drop like a USB device?
Do you HAVE to get all of your content from iTunes?

Nope re:usb device; although you can drag and drop specific songs/shows into your ipod or a playlist once inside of iTunes (via the sidebar navigation). That's what I do, since I keep my whole song collection on my iPod and only my newest songs in iTunes. And yes, you need iTunes to communicate with your iPod, but you DON'T have to get your content from there. The program is free to download from the Apple site, and it's pretty easy to use. I was nervous about it when I first got it, but it's pretty simple and hasn't caused me any problems. Although I have an old regular iPod, so I'm not sure if or how it differs with all of the later types. But like Para said, the support guides on Apple.com are very helpful and will tell you how to do it. They used to have video guides too, but I'm not sure if they're still there and you can find them here.

According to Google, yes. Apparently if you have Winamp 5.2 or above it comes bundled with a plug-in to access the iPod (but not the iTouch or iPhone models), but if you have 5.1 or older then you need to download a different third-party plug-in in order for it to "see" the iPod.
