money....lots of brainwashing. who are they trying to protect? it has to be more than "culture" why bring in all the refuges? ? this was a well named epsoide Yes this episode was very well named. I didn't know if they would have brainwashed all the people that saw the drill or not, but as "different" as this city is I can definitely see them doing that.

I'm trying to think of an episode of Avatar that has been as creepy as what I just watched.
...And I can't think of anything. Seriously, I got chills.
There was plenty of crack to enjoy, though. Like "WHERE'S THE BLACKMARKET?!" <33 Sokka. I loved Aang and Sokka's interactions in this, too, they're hilarious.
And crazystalker!Jet freaking out Smellerbee and Longshot is love. No really. And at first I was dead of amused thinking "They're carting him off the the asylum" And then the hypnotizing thing happened and now I feel bad for him. Poor Jet.

...Now this is a very interesting episode. Like what damunch said, there is no real "good" side anymore. It makes you wonder who the real good guys are?? Both the Firenation and the Earthkingdom have a corrupt government!

um....THE ZUKO-JET FIGHT WAS SO COOOOOL!!!!!!!! *screams and squeals like a fangirl* Ahem, right, I don't know if anyone noticed it but the EK king was actually both younger and older than most people expected him to be. I would guess him to be somewhere between his late teens and early twenty's. Of course, his face was kind of covered, so i could be wrong... Anyway.....yeah....bear *laughs* The episode was kind of creepy (ALTER EGO: IT WAS REALLY CREEPY YOU MEAN ME: SHUT UP) hypnosis and puppet kings....Is there anything this show doesn't have?!

Has anyone read "The Giver?" It's a book about a false utopia. Simlar to Ba Sing Se, except The Giver came first. Groovy episode I'd say. I remember reading that in fourth grade. I forgot about that comparison...

It seriously scares me that all those people in the Earth Kingdom... They think that they're living in a flawless utopia! Cut off from all other societies like that! They're trapped there, thinking that if they leave they'll have no chance! Even Aang was disturbed when he saw the outer ring of the city.

Another it reminds me of is "Gathering Blue" In wich it's the opposite, they want the people to think that there is Badness er... whatever outside to keep the people in line!

I think a lot of the population knows they live in a state of flawless utopia, but who are they going to complain to?
