I like to write. But I so busy that when I DO get to continue a story, I forget my train of thought that was chugging along so well in my brain. It crashed or got lost or somethin
“Liam? Liam! Where are you?” I shouted into the phone. The florescent lights across the room flickered as my twin brother sobbed into the phone.
“I--I don’t know. Everything around me is dark except for this light. I tried to look around, but when I got close to the shadows, hands reached through and tried to grab me.” I could hear him shuffling through the phone. He was probably searching for something. “Leon, I’m scared.”
“Don’t worry. I’ll get there as soon as I can.”
“Please hurry, the lights across the room are dimming and the hands are getting clos--”
Three short beeps sounded. His phone died. I tried to call Adelle and Niki, but they didn’t pick up their phones. I called Rachel, and she answered. “Leon! Help!” That was all I heard before her piercing scream and the thud of the phone against the ground reached my ears. I wanted to call Cecil, but my phone flashed “Low Battery” across the screen, so I decided to call the police instead. Nothing but static. I called the fire department and my house, but there was no answer. Beginning to enter the number to my Cecil’s house, the phone blinked and it no longer functioned. I began to lose hope and sunk lower into the plastic desk chair.
A normally playful tone echoed solemnly in the tenebrous room. It was my phone. Why was it ringing? It had died just moments ago. I pressed the button to pull my new text message across the screen. “Welcome to Friday. You are at Level One. Arrive at Level Twenty Five within twenty-four hours or face the Darkness.” The room was illuminated by the florescent lights, its synthetic shine blinding me for half a moment. I panned the room and took in the bright scenery. Everything was revealed by the bluish-white lights, save for a small corner of a room I looked at the chalkboard, words scrawled with careless handwriting in chalk. “Don’t touch the darkness.” Bloody handprints framed the words to complete its eerie effect. A hand stretched out from the darkness and its nails dug into the tiled floor before screeching back to its gloomy home.
