I get what you mean now. I took your comments at face value. Sorry. Those are some interesting points, I think.....

Kyatto: One last thing: I understand your idea that Zuko's a girl, but Azula is not a guy. She does have some sort of chest. screenshots.avatarspiritmedia.net/219/060.jpg Check this picture. You got me interested, so I was looking at screenshots and found this.

I would laugh so hard if I was right...Oh so hard...Probably have to send me to the hospital. X3

Wow. This got off topic. But yeah, honestly I wouldn't base your shipping off what you think will end up happening, but what you want to.
But really- you made the best choice! (Taang!) ;D

Does anyone remember the speculation before the season finale, when people were getting excited about the cave scene? It was being called "the birth of Zutara". Then Zuko killed it by betraying Katara. He killed it before it was even born. Therefore, Zutara is now an aborted phetus. ...I'm JOKING! I'm not trying to start a ship war or anything! But I'm still gonna call it the aborted phetus ship...It irritates me when people call Katara and Aang's relationship "motherly". If anyone needs a motherly relationship, it's Zuko. Aang lived at the Air Temple with a bunch of old men for most of his life; Zuko lost his mother when he was about ten, and it clearly affected him in a very negative way. Aang clearly feels a deep romantic but non-sexual love for Katara, and shows emotional maturity (responsiblity, care for others, dedication to his friends and his cause). Zuko is awkward around girls and isn't particularly interested in pursuing a romantic relationship (his date with Jin turned out well in the end, but he didn't want to go, it was awkward and it ended abruptly). Zuko is also emotionally immature (selfish, unwilling to accept harsh truths, doesn't think things through). So, who needs a mother, and who needs a lover? The boy who lived his life assumedly without a mother and doesn't seem to care, who displays a lot of emotional maturity and who is eager for a romantic relationship with one person who he's truly dedicated to; or the boy who was deeply hurt and upset by his mother's departure during his childhood, who displays emotional immaturity and who isn't particularly interested in romance? Not that Zuko has to be alone and lover-less or anything, but I don't think he needs a girlfriend (or boyfriend, for that matter), and I don't really think he's ready for one. And when he is, Mai will be waiting

That made me laugh so hard.
But yes, if anyone needs a mother figure it’s Zuko. As you said, Aang lived at the Air Temple with a bunch of old men for most of his life (you can’t miss what you had never had as they say), feels romantic but non-sexual love for Katara, and shows emotional maturity. On other hand, Zuko lost his mother when he was young, which clearly affected him in a very negative way, isn’t interested in romantic relationships, and isn’t very emotionally mature. So, like I said, Zuko would benefit from a “motherly relationship”. As for the original question, I’m placing my money on Aang/Katara, Mai/Zuko, and Sokka/Suki.

Hearing people talk about the role Katara would play in Zuko's life (the one who'd understand him, who'd support him, who'd "heal him, etc.) often makes me picture her being almost his Ursa replacement. Zuko is the one who seems to have the "mother need," not Aang.
I don't know about that. He obviously finds her physically attractive. I'm sure somewhere in that 12 year old pre-pubescent mind of his he's had a few not-so-innocent thoughts.

Hmm, maybe "non-sexual" wasn't the right way to put it, because he clearly finds her attractive, but I usually think of his love for her as being kind of innocent.

Hello! I am new to Distant Horizons and I would like to bring up a debate. While I am an avid Avatar fan, I do not know what couple(s) I should ship. I don't have any current views or reasonings for shipping so I am open to pretty much anything. My only exceptions are that I won't ship anything impossible (like ZuKi or JetKo. They don't even know anything about eachother!) or anything unreasonable (like ZukAang or KatIroh). If you would like, give reasons that I should support your ship! And please don't tell me to look it up; I have looked it up and still don't know and besides: this is a lot more fun! P.S. I look forward to being a good member of this community. Thanks everybody! Let's put it the philosophical way. Unless you're an Existentialist who believes in total freedom and randomness, you'll be making up a ton and a half of reasons to back up your ship. Randomness means anything can happen, like JetKo and...erm......yeah. But if you point out the right clues, subtle hints, nitpick each episode to hell, and explain rationally and sensibly, any ship can sail. Which makes for the shipping fan wars and whatnot. I ship certain ships but the show is up to Mike & Bryan. If it's Kataang, then so be it. If it's Zutara....WHEEEE!!! The only certain ships so far are all connected to Sokka. (really, Tykka is one-sided given what we've seen in the episodes, ja? but when you jump to the hypothetical, it can happen in season 3) ~Shirozora And to address the "Who needs the mother and who needs the lover?" Now let's put it this way: one of the key attractions of ATLA is character development. So far Zuko's got family issues but he's growing as a character. Part of that means not needing a mother replacement. O gods, mother replacement my butt. What he needs is someone who understands him and can help him get through all the emotional roadblocks and everything else that made him this angry bitter confused-as-heck young man. That doesnt' necessarily mean a mother, although it wouldn't hurt for him to find Ursa or at least know what happened to her, ne? My opinion is that Aang cannot get into a relationship with ANYONE without serious consequences. And really, would he put himself and that significant other through it? He's growing as a character, too, isn't he? Doesn't that mean he knows how serious his situation is, being the Avatar and hunted down by the Fire Nation? Both he and the lover would have to understand the risks. Ah hells, look at Spiderman 2. He's old enough to understand, and he's got the chakras to deal with if he wants to mess with the Avatar State again. Also, just because Zuko jumped aboard Azula's rampaging Ship of Doom and Fire doesn't mean he's pure evil now. That's narrow-minded and simply not in the spirit of the show itself. He's much more complicated than that. The only truly uncomplicated people, to me at least, are Ozai, Azula, and Jet. Everybody else is a hodgepodge of reality, including Zuko.

Katara/Aang--This seemed the most likely to happen. The boy's liked her forever, and in most cases the hero wins the girl he wants. Yet the whole "guru concept" completely turned everything on it's head. The fact is that Aang can't love her the way he wants to right now. Until they give us more info, it doesn't seem that the avatar can be romantically involved with anyone, or he won't have proper mental clairity. I think, unless there's a drastic new occurance, Aang can't be with anyone. IF not for this, kataang was very likely. They get along fine (only one fight so far, with Aang's whole "i'd rather kiss you than die, it's a compliment!" thing), they respect each other, they admire each other, etc. Yet I don't think Katara finds him physically attractive. It seems like she thinks of him as a boy, not a man. So do I. He seems too young to me. Maybe I'm weird, but the image of a 12 year old making out with a 14 year old seems a little creepy. But, in 3 or so years, when his voice doesn't sound like a chipmonk and he's grown a few inches, sure, why not? If he didn't have the whole avatar thing going, I can't see any reasons why it wouldn't work. The "mother" arguement is an old one, and, as I said, give it 3 years and she might see him as a manly-man. So if he magically wasn't the avatar and was old enough to shave, sure. But right now, all signs point to lonely Aang/ Toph/Aang--If Aang can't be with Katara, he can't be with Toph. And if he can be with anyone, he'd be with Katara. Why? He's obsessed with her. Zuko/Katara--This one is appealing, but there are some major issues and roadblocks. First off, how will Katara ever trust the boy again? It would take something humongous to clean his slate in her eyes. He'd have to give Aang a kidney or something. Zuko also has other issues to get over, such as his superiority complex at being royalty (he's gotten better at that), his obsession with regaining his honor (no end in sight there), and his social awkwardness (though Zuko was more open to Katara than we've ever seen him be to anyone. Ever). In short, there needs to be some utterly explosive plot devices for this to work. Other than that, it is appealing. Kataang might be "cute," but Zutara is "sexy." Plus, seeing it unfold would be very interesting. I think their personalities would go well together if Zuko could purge hismelf of the angst, anger and pride. But that's what Zutara is; it's all "what-ifs," "maybes" and "I hopes." Wishing and praying aren't going to make it happen if it's not meant to be. There is no obvious evidence. Those little "hints" listed above seem like mere bits of coincidence. Sokka/Suki--If she's alive, the most likely of all the ships to continue. If she's dead...nope. Sokka/Toph--If Suki's alive, no. If she's dead, perhaps, but I find this one even creepier than kataang. The girl needs to grow up just a smidgen more... Sokka/Ty Lee--If Suki's alive, no. If she's dead...yeah could be. It certaintly has more proof than a lot of the other ships. Maiko--She seriously needs to smile or something. Until Mai shows some sort of emotion, it would be icky and depressing. *monotone Mai voice* "Zuko you're my lovey-cuddly-snoogly-woogly"...imagine Mai's voice in your head saying that. If she lightenes up, sure. It's quite likely to happen, even if it isn't too popular. Zuko/Jin or Song--They've pretty much been confirmed as one-episode characters. I think those are all of the major, SERIOUS ships. And no, for some strange, unusual reason, I don't consider Jetko as serious. Go figure

You= brilliant! I agree with you wholeheartedly ^.^ Although, I doubt that Tokka (TophxSokka) will ever happen, because Sokka obviously likes tall & well filled out girls. *gestures with hands to clarify*
