Okay, so my friend and I talk a lot (or we used to until he had moved away) and one thing that we never agreed on was emotions. Do you think emotions are good or bad? Please explain. Don't be afraid to honestly voice your opinion, whether it's one extreme or the other, or somewhere the middle.
Personally, I think emotions are bad. I always disliked becoming angry or feeling terrified. If we had no emotions, we wouldn't have all these loud arguments between friends over trivial matters. Lovers wouldn't need to fear disapproval of their significant other. Often, I find myself making stupid mistakes because my emotions cloud my judgment. I often become angry and raise my voice at others; sometimes, I feel deeply depressed and I just don't do what I absolutely NEED to do. I honestly wouldn't mind going through the day without hearing any complaints from others. Yes, it might be a bit quieter, but it would be a much more peaceful world.

I think it really depends on which emotions...
humans have emotions we can't really help it...but if we didn't i don't think we could express anything...
Certainly there are emotions that the world could do without like hatred..but if we didn't have any of that nothing would be possible...media, politics (which i really don't care about...lol), social networking, and sooo much more...
in a way, our emotions and how we feel when we have them help us get to know who we really are and how we view the world.
so i guess i could say "i'll take the good with the bad" and think it's a good thing.
We would all just be mindless conformists to society if we didn't. but that's just an opinion.

Well, I guess I just hate dealing with others (ANTI-SOCIAL TENDENCIES. GO AWAAAY.) Living for nothing isn't something that scares me. I find it peaceful. Ahahaha, I'm pathetic. XD Sure, there's no happiness or enjoyment, but there's also no despair or suffering. You really never have to worry about the dramas in life. You never have to worry about offending others. It would be a simple world.
Emotions, as I see it, are weakness. They cloud judgment and are unnecessary. That's not to say I don't have them, I just hate them.

The close people in my life, or people on forums actually wanna hear what i have to say... but anyway..about the emotions.. yes it can cause drama...even psychosomatic conflicts within yourself at times i feel like i wish i didn't have emotions...so i can't know pain, jealousy, and all those other bad emotions. but when i have good emotions i'm glad i can feel them. it's kinda a love/hate thing in a way for me.

Or, you could read the BIBLE because you could really use some identifying with that JESUS fellow. Yes, I know. He provides eternal happiness. I identify as Christian yet I am so worldly. I'm lukewarm. God would rather that I be on one side or the other. It's just kinda hard for me to do that. Haha, perhaps this is another one of my emotions clouding my judgment, is it not? I'm hesitant. Perhaps if I were not, I would understand more. Sometimes I wish I were more stoic. Maybe then I could think like my smart mother. but anyway..about the emotions.. yes it can cause drama...even psychosomatic conflicts within yourself at times i feel like i wish i didn't have emotions...so i can't know pain, jealousy, and all those other bad emotions. but when i have good emotions i'm glad i can feel them. it's kinda a love/hate thing in a way for me. Unfortunately, life isn't buffet, where we choose what we like. It's more like buying a box for assorted chocolates for yourself. You have to buy the whole package with the good fillings and bad fillings. Sometimes you've been given a box full of chocolates you hate, and others only chocolates you love. But you always have to take it in its entirety...Ironically, I was thinking about that earlier today when I was snacking on some chocolates.

I'd say it depends on the situation. Sometimes your emotions help you. Sometimes they hinder.

In my opinion, I would say emotions are good. Of course they can be used to control or create terrible situations, but they can also be the root of amazing things, and that's the beauty/horror of the human condition. Without emotion, there may be no jealousy or rage or hatred, but there would also be no passion, no joy, no creativity. Nostalgia, compassion, empathy, love... Feelings and emotions are part of what make us human, and without that, we would just be fleshy, bland computers.
Certainly, there is a need for balance, and too much emotion in a situation can be a problem, but likewise too little emotion can be a problem as well because some situations require more gut instincts or human/social feelings than brain logic to understand or solve.
There are some societies, past and present, that put stoicism as the.... what's the phrase... um, I can't remember so this'll have to do: Top of the Pyramid for human emotion achievement, and anything less, in public or private, is seen as a weakness. In my opinion, that is incredibly limiting and confining. We are people, not robots, and forcing oneself to become emotionally stunted only creates more internal problems in the long run. I think people should try to balance their emotions, not leave 'em tied up under the floorboards or let 'em drag race down a crowded highway. (Of course I'm a bit of a hypocrite; I adamantly refuse to left myself cry during movies and ridiculously moving commercials, and any breaching tears get a terrible mind lashing -- but hey, we're all works in progress.) ^^;
Anyway, tldr; aside -- the point is balance. Regardless of whatever the topic is, the answer is always balance. If you don't like the box of chocolate you got, get a different box; shop at a different store. You may never be able to avoid certain flavors, but you always have the choice of surrounding yourself with as many flavors that as you like as possible.
