That, and probably some misplaced anger at the benders for the old war. I imagine not all the wounds are fully healed yet.

Since the city is primarily taking influence from 1920 Shanghai. And seeing as Shanghai was divided among the Europeans and Chinese during this time. Could this be a hint that Republic City is divided between the benders and non-benders? Also, check this out. Attachments:

Yup that will be a definite possibility aside from the city also possibly being subdivided according to the nationalities of the inhabitants ala real-life modern-day Jerusalem. Btw its cool how you noticed the obvious references in the preview pic. Sweet ;D

I like the preview pic. And did anyone think of Star Wars when they announced that the city would be called Republic City?

Oh wow, that preview pic is cool. Good eyes! I wonder if that statue will be of Aang or someone else.
I don't have much else to add, but I'm loving your guys' theories. Whatever ends up happening, it definitely seems like this city will be a big interesting part of the show.

Wow I haven't been here in a while lol. ButI am so excited for the new series and I have a theory on Republic City. I was doin a little research on 1920s Shanghai and found it was considered the "vice city' of the world at that time. Full of crime, drugs, prostitution, etc. Along with an anti-bender rebellion. I wonder if there will be a large organized crime contingent to deal with. And in a way when I read the description of LOK and saw the press release pic I couldn't help but think of Batman wonder if the two will be similar in some ways.

I am looking forward to how this series has matured. Me too, but I think the creators clarified themselves with that statement by saying they aren't necessarily going to have the series explore more mature themes compared to the old series but they were just going to explore more mature themes.

Right, there has to be some sort of progression, can't do with all the old topics and such.
