Will this make enough money for M Night to make his sequel?
I doubt they'll break $200,000,000.

I doubt they'll even make their money back on it...
Cost: $150,000,000 (film) + $130,000,000 (marketing) = $280,000,000
Take so far: $32,950,000
Of course, it's still in cinemas, and there's the overseas box office...but given it's overall lousiness and fan reaction, it's not likely to get a lot of repeat viewings, which is something big summer blockbusters need in order to become big summer blockbusters.
People are comparing it to Dragonball: Evolution which had a final take of $57,497,699, which it looks like it'll match at the very least. But, DBE had a budget of $30,000,000...

I bet China will give them their money back.
Except they might not like that the protagonist being dressed as a Tibetan.

^ Why would China give the blindest bit of notice to a white washed adaptation of an American cartoon series?
I dont see how Paramaount can be said to have invested 130 million on the film's marketing. Where on earth did the money go?

Didn't they have a Superbowl ad? Those things cost an arm, a leg and your first born child.

Why would China give the blindest bit of notice to a white washed adaptation of an American cartoon series? Why would Dragonball Evolution be successful in the country to warrant a sequel? Hasn't this movie also been accused of white washing too?

I'm not feeling good about a sequel. But I also don't feel like one is necessary....and neither was the first one.

Ok look, one of my friends from high school, his brother worked on the film on the crew in the Philly location. He said the only way they're doing a sequel is if the first one went over well. Which is isn't. Therefore there will probably be no sequel.

I havent seen anything to suggest that Dragonball Evolution did particularly well in China inspite of its production and marketing having had far more going for it in terms of the asian market than the Last Airbender. Btw, the Last Airbender is only opening in Hong Kong on 12 August (no suggestion at all that it will even reach mainland China). That doesnt exactly suggest overwhelming confidence by the producers on the asian market for the film.

After hearing all the reactions, and seeing the movie for myself I really highly doubt they will receive the money back. It was a total downer, and there were so many fans that told everyone that so they refuse to see the movie.

Having a sequal will be a way for M Night to really improve as a director. The fans are really loud in their opinions *cough*Zutarains*cough*, so we can help M Night improve the movies.

...You can't honestly be blaming the movie hate on Zutarains, can you?
Seriously, this movie was hated on all fronts, shipping has NOTHING to do with it.

I don't think she meant it that way (maybe just the loud fans will get their point across to him?) but, either way, I don't think Shyamalan should get another chance on these movies. Since he completely screwed up this first one, how can we expect him to adequately adapt the second and third ones, which have even *more* content, character development, and plot than the first one? In addition, Shyamalan really hasn't shown himself to be one who listens to criticism and grows from it. Whether he actually accepts the valid complaints on this movie, or just brushes it off as coming from people who don't like him/his earlier movies, has yet to be seen, though, but considering his take on the casting controversy, I don't have high hopes.
