another blow to the movie...geez...can't anyone just try to enjoy it.. ???i get the whole.. it's all white main roles that should have been asians i really do! ..and the movie may be bad but at least it'll be my own opinion about it after seeing it....im not being influenced by what other's say about the whitewashing and sure...it may be wrong yes, but the world's not all sunshine and rainbows kiddies.....that's MY two sense...*leaves discussion* ...the race issue for the movie is kinda getting to the point of beating a fish to death. *sighs*

Without the controversy, there would be no reason for the movie to be mentioned in the media at all besides the usual paid promos so Paramount should appreciate the favour. I dont see how anyone can compare the white washing of a series with a computer game. Can anyone here admit to ever being invested in the character of the Prince of Persia beyond saving to the next level before getting killed?

The Prince of Persia movie is somewhat based off of the PS2 trilogy that started with Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Anyways. The people complaining about the races are a bit annoying. Its just a movie people and these are actors that can play the role of whoever they can. If you don't like what you see then don't watch it, its that simple. If you want to see a movie that is to your liking then go and make that movie.

I think it's a bit much to blow off people's concerns as simply "annoying." You might not agree with their opinions, but that doesn't mean you have to belittle them.

I think the race issue has been blown rather out of proportion. Certainly it's a little strange that many of the main characters have a different skin color than they did in the series, but I think the bigger issue is whether or not the movie is actually good. So far, I don't think it looks very good, unfortunately.

i dont think the reasoning as to why they're covering the race issue is annoying but rather the constant bashing of any new news about the movie....i believe race is a very touchy subject to many people (as well as myself) but im not going to boycott a movie because of the actors casted....that just seems unfair (especially if they are an unknown new talent) because they don't truely have a chance to show what they're made of. its like..."i'm going to hate this movie because i don't like the etnicities/races casted...it should have been this race....." how racist does that sound?....to me it sounds pretty bad...

I think the bigger issue here is what they've done to Firebending, and the needless change in the pronunciation of several of the main characters' names.

Has anyone played the Facebook® game? It actually gave me a reason to partake in their game section.

You might not agree with their opinions, but that doesn't mean you have to belittle them. This This This. I understand that both sides are getting tired of the arguments, but seriously you guys; respect! Please don't turn it into personal/general attacks against those you don't agree with, it just increases the fighting and causes me to not get any work done. (not that I'd get work done anyway, but uh, not the point!) Anyway, I think the article was nicely written, and I think it's pretty cool that it's the Associated Press that did it; that's really big! Movie stuff aside, this is huge publicity for the original show and PoP games. Back to movie stuff though, I'm boycotting Airbender for a ton of reasons, from canon to casting, and am boycotting Prince of Persia on casting too. It's not because of "~ewww, they're white actors~" or being against the actors themselves, it's the principle of the matter. I'm sorry that all the race-news is harshing your movie squee Aanglover, but, this type of opposite sides on subjects is something that happens a lot in life. If you want to be happy for the movie though, then be happy, enjoy it.

I can't say I approve of the "Racebending" of the film, but I have to see it to make my full opinion. Because if the actors chosen are very good, then I'll feel better about their casting. (Katara worries me though, she seems pretty flat in the trailers.)

I'm torn because I do want to see this movie because I love Avatar and I think (hope) that there will be some salvageable parts. But on the other hand, I don't want to support both the casting and the needless changes to canon material.
I might just wait until I can find a cheap secondhand copy of the DVD; that way my money won't go to the filmmakers.
