I've got some friends at San Diego- I live about two hours away. Real estate is pretty expensive up here.. and the UC's just announced that they'd be raising fee's. I was tempted to go to the protest in Westwood at UCLA, but I has school ha ha.
I'll be applying around the UC's, but I'll tell ya.. it's crazy competitive! My high schools requirements correspond to the UC/CalState system, and if you take the AP track, taking say two to three AP classes a year, with a four year language, four years of math, and fine arts, getting in is still difficult.

Here's a tip. Sleep now, while you can. Because you won't be seeing that as much once college starts.

Dear God, everything is about college right now. I just want to ram everything into a wall and just forget about it. College better be worth all of this stupid stress and frustration or I will burn every college down to the ground. D:< It is so true about UC's being hella competitive, but if you complete your requirements along with extracurriculars, you shouldn't be THAT worried. Though, it does take up a lot of commitment and effort, but it's all worth it in the end. Solvabibble: I saw your name and nearly died I miss joooo<3 It really has been a looong time *need to reply to Myspace msg. . .been busy as hell and hopefully you read this and forgive me* ^_^;; College Tip: Try to get networking, join an organization like the Key Club and. . .errr *not in college yet heeheehee ^^;;*. . . . keep everything organized in a binder and such. DON'T THROW ANYTHING AWAY UNTIL THE END OF THE YEAR. <__< I've heard stories about people losing handouts and requirements stuffzzzz.

It IS worth it. Trust me. You don't know how much high school sucks until you go to college.

After finishing my first semester, and already starting my second one of college, all I can say is to KEEP EVERYTHING CLEAN. Your dorm room (or apartment) will explode if you don't keep up.^^
Also, just remember to watch what you're eating, because it's so tempting to snack late at night. Besides that, don't be shy and make lots of friends! Good luck!

Academically all I can say is have a plan. College for most people is the last time form of education. You shouldn't waste this time. What you study essentially determines what you will be doing for your career. Make sure you know or at least have an idea on what you want to do. That way you can make the most of it instead of wasting time. Even if you are planing on going to Grad school, knowing which pre-req classes you need as well as optional extracurriculars needed to apply early and planning accordingly makes a world of difference.

Any seniors out there decide on their college yet? I'm still narrowing down my decision - and am stressed about it. The main contenders for me are St. Lawrence and the honors programs at Hobart and William Smith, Skidmore, Union, and UMaine. My parents and I are planning visits back to them and I'm worried that won't even help make the decision. Anyone care to tell how they finally chose their college?

My parents are having me choose my colleges now, and I'm only a sophomore. UCLA, UC Berkely, and UC Santa Cruz are my for sure choices. I'm pretty sure I want to go into music, but I'm not sure if I want to audition for a conservancy or not. I'm really confident about UCLA, because my band director has connections. I've also conducted their wind ensemble (I won an essay contest), know a lot of the staff on the Bruin Marching Band, attend their concerts, and my family goes to an alumni camp during the summer, so I'm hoping for some help into the band program. But I'm also considering a few liberal arts colleges, like Prescott in Arizona. A friend of mine just got into NYU, so it gives me a little hope that I might be able to possibly apply if I'm lucky.

University of Georgia is where I'm headed! It wasn't that hard to choose a college to go to because I got denied from my first choice and my second choice so I went with my third, which was UGA. And of course, being in-state and getting the HOPE scholarship certainly helps the budget.

Oh gosh Splendi I didn't even start thinking about it till late junior year. But it's probably good that you're starting so early so you have something to work towards. I didn't realize how difficult it was to get into top schools until it was too late. DX I looked into UC Santa Cruz for a while when I was on my "I'm gonna get the hell out of here and live on the west coast" kick. I loved the Banana Slug. And I feel like NYU isn't as selective as you think it is. I've always thought that it and Julliard were seen as the epitome of awesome for music, but NYU is definitely doable. Congrats Zukosfire! I got rejected by quite a few of my tops as well, but I knew it wasn't likely. One of my friends is considering UGA, which is kind of weird since we're in MA, but it must be great if it's attracting top students from so far away!

I gained the ever-popular freshman fifteen when I first started. Luckily, I've lost it all this year, and plan on losing more, but it is SO tough. What is it about a college campuses that make a person so HUNGRY all the time? Lol
