Hi. I don't think I've rped on this board yet and I really want to, so I'm starting my own thread. You can sign up until July 8th. That's a reasonable amount of time and besides I'm going somewhere end of June/Beginning of July and I won't get back till then xD
Again, the title is Prisoners of War. Here are the guidelines:
Setting: A prison camp for Earth Kingdom prisoners outside a fire nation city. It is made of metal, so they cannot escape.
Nations Please pick Earth or Fire; you can be a soldier, prisoner, or person from the city. Bending ability is optional.
That's pretty much it xD Here's my character, I spent yesterday drawing the picture and finding the name, and I took some of today to write the story. Story has been edited.
Name: Hisae (translates to "enduring" in Japanese)
Age 16
Nation Earth
Bender Yes. Low-Moderate level, as she was never taught.
Appearance Height is 5' 1". Pale skin, straight brown hair, knee length. Hair is pulled off her face with an earth kingdom insignia pin. Jade green eyes. Wears a green and brown kimono, green slippers, and green bands around her wrists, hiding deep burn scars.
Personality Very friendly, but shy when meeting strangers. Tends to be more quiet and distrustful as of late. (see story)
Story Hisae was born in the spring. She never knew her parents. Her father died in combat while her mother was pregnant with her, and her mother died in childbirth. She somehow survived being born, which is how she got her name, which means "enduring." Since she never knew her parents, she does not miss them. While she was a baby, she was cared for by the village elder, a woman named Aki, for the season she was born in. (Aki=spring) Aki-sama showed Hasae some basic earthbendeing when she was a young child. She always watched the old woman with awe. Aki-sama was said to have been an amazing bender in her youth. When Hisae was almost six, Aki-sama died of old age. Hisae was very sad, but tried not to cry. When Aki-sama was on her deathbed, she told Hisae, "Be strong, little child. You will become an earthbender, I can tell. If you are strong and enduring, then my spirit will watch over you."
Hisae had no place to live now, but the villagers were friendly and took turns giving her food and shelter. She would go out and play with the village children every day. One day, she was trying to dig a hole when she realised that it went faster if she concentrated with her mind. After a while, she discovered that she could, in fact, earthbend. She played with rocks and amused the other children. The only other earthbenders in the village were adult men; for some reason she was the only bender her age in the village. She was never that outgoing or even proud of her skill, but she had fun with it, imagining Aki-sama watching over her from the spirit world.
When Hisae turned ten, news about the war grew alarmingly close. All of the men in the village left for combat training at an Earth Kingdom base far away. With the men gone, Hisae was the only one who could use her earthbending to help with repairs, and people began to respect her more. Once she reached an intermediate level of earthbending, however, Hisae could never seem to get any farther. However, the skills she had made her life easier, and that was all she really needed.
At age thirteen, Hisae stopped relying on the help of others and used her earthbending to build herself a new home. She was happy and contented, and never really gave much thought to falling in love and having a family. Yet, even if she did, there weren't any young men in the village who could propose to her; they were all at war. She continued to help out in the village; she watched the children and used bending to scare away animals that would harm their crops.
It was not unti Hisae was sixteen when the fire nation attacked the village, suddenly and without warning. The fire nation soldiers were surprised to see no men defending the villagers, and so they simply looted all the valuables they could find, which were few. After that, they began taking villagers as prisoners. Terrified, Hisae retreated into her own small hut. She coult not concentrate on bending when she was so frightened. She huddles up in the corner, when she suddenly smelled smoke. The houses were being set afire! Not quite sure what to do, she stayed where she was. Suddenly, a high ranking firebender crashed down her door. Hisae screamed, and her eyes opened wide in fear. The firebender laughed and suddenly leapt and grabbed her wrists. A searing, hot pain penetrated her skin from his fingers, and her hands went numb. The next thing she knew, he was attacking her. She felt so scared, so helpless, and so disgusted. She remembered feeling dizzy and passing out. She had barely regained consciousness once she was aware that she was fully dressed again and being dragged out with the other villagers. The fire nation army drove their prisoners to an occupied port by the sea. There were many people there.
Hisae could move her hands a little, but the pain was unbearable. Tearing off some cloth from her kimono, she made two make-shift bandages and wrapped them around her wrists. She never wanted to see the wound again.
The boat ride was long and frightening, but Hisae stayed away from everyone else. Never before had she felt so helpless. She was among other people that she didn't know now, and she didn't trust them. She never told anybody what happened when the village was attacked. She didn't want to remember.
Upon arriving at the fire nation, the prisoners were taken to a metal prison outside a fire nation city. Hisae was not feeling "enduring" at all. She wasn't sure what would happen to them; would they stay there forever, would they become slaves? Clenching her fists and feeling the pain, she realised that she would probably never earthbend again. She looked into the distance, completely stunned at how her life had changed so much in such a short period of time.
Long, I know, the longest I've ever written xD But I want this to be an interesting RP
