I need to know something, is it really possible for whites to experience discrimination? Because apparently, in some corners of the Internet, the casting issue of The Last Airbender has reached new heights by claiming that due to the massive amount of hatred toward the "whitewash" casting, many people are saying they hate whites and others saying it's not bordering on racism toward the majority.
I really need to know, is it really possible for whites to be discriminated against?

(Better suited in Critical Thinking mods.....)
Of course. We're all inherently racist- it's the society we've grown up in. I'm a little bit racist, and I try incredibly hard not to be.
Anyway, during school I was noticing this. We were talking about how ad campaigns try for ethnic mixing, and I don't see the problem with not. Honestly, race isn't anything but created, an illusion. There is no biological evidence of race- nothing in genes. A black man has nothing a white man doesn't, and vice versa. The only difference is the amount of melanin our skin produces, which is caused by the location of our ancestors in the old world. Africans were exposed to more sun, therefore higher melanin production, and less for whites. Other than that- there is no difference.
I had an entire class devoted to this- no joke. "Freshman Seminar" was supposed to teach me health and history, but I learned about race. And it was one of the most interesting classes I've had to endure.
Anyway, whites are often discriminated against, and most see it as almost a payback for the horrible things that we've done in the past as a majority. But racism shouldn't be measured in that sense. Any change in outlook brought on by race, good or bad, should be extinguished. I've heard it at my school, people get mad at "nigga" but not at "cracka" because of the treatments of the races in the past.
Sure, whites were horrible to everyone. Yeah, I'm white. But really- race is an illusion. We're all, biologically, similar. There is nothing separating us but our own stigma and stubborn attitudes.

Aren't whites becoming a minority anyway, well in the US at least?
Simple, minority always loses battles but end up winning the war.

I'm pretty sure it's all sarcasm in reference to the terrible avatar casting.

in my opinion, everyone can be a victim of discrimination..
discrimination: treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit.
...but i believe that in The Last Airbender's casting case that the people saying trash about the white actors/actresses is a form of discrimination as well.

I wouldn't call defending Asian-Americans' rights to play Asian roles discrimination against white people. Heck, I'm white, and I'm outraged over the casting of the movie. Yes, I know it's possible to discriminate against your own race, but that's not the case in this situation. Defending one group =/= discriminating against another, no matter how many times people claim it is. Yes, it's unfair to Noah Ringer and co., but it was vastly more unfair to Asian-Americans to put "Caucasian or other ethnicity" on the casting calls for Asian characters.
So, yeah... back the original question. Yes, white people can be discriminated against. Anybody can be a victim of discrimination.

i'm not saying defending asian americans right to act as asian roles is wrong..i'm simply stating that those who are saying harsh criticisms about the white people playing the main characters is discrimination. I've seen quotes like "they'll stink seeing as they're not asian" all around the internet and it is demeaning..just cuz they aren't asian doesn't mean they can't act and do a good job..i do agree, however, that the "caucasian or other ethnicity" casting call is uncalled for. everyone should have the same opportunities!

Finally, a pro-caster who doesn't just dismiss what we're saying. Sadly, a lot of people seem to misunderstand our intentions. We aren't mad at the actors, we're made at the casters. I feel like I'm beginning to repeat myself. @_____@

I mean, people can't seem to get a certain concept, that races, countries, and other things, are not individuals and must be seen as groups. I've seen people who act like america deserves no respect because of slavery, the bombing of hiroshima, and crap like that. But they don't seem to get the concept that no one in the government now was in the government for that time, making it so we're effectively a different country where any punishment made on it for that will be hurting entirely different people. What is so confusing about this?

Yes, slavery was a horrible thing, and should never have occured. I should not be punished, because I have never enslaved a fellow human being, just as we should not hold grudges against other countries for wars or conflicts that happened long before a majority of today's population was even born. Peace, Love, and Zutara, everybody.

unfortunately discrimination will continue in the future because it has been passed down from generations..all we can hope for now is for our generation to join together and accept people for who they are. but there will always be that select group of people out there who think it's okay to discriminate because of the environment they were grown up in.

Decriminalization is a terrible concession and hurts everybody. Decriminalization doesn't address the main reason to legalize: removal of the cartels and providing additional revenue for Obama to spend on dropouts. In fact, it would probably worsen the situation.

How in the world did this conversation go from discrimination to the legalization of marijuana??

Easy answer to this issue: Stop the cycle yourself. One person that stops can help start a chain and make sure future generations are less discriminatory.
