Well, i finally saw the new 1 dollar coin. Nice fake gold color, I think it's Jefferson on there, or was it Franklin....
And what is curiously absent is this lovely phrase:
In God we trust
When I got an email a few month back about it, I had not heard about the new coin and just dismissed it.
But the call to boycott this new coin because of the missing phrase made me giggle: Ever since the Eisenhower Dollar was pulled from circulation a 1 dollar coin has not found the hoped acceptance by the public. I don't see it happen any different with this one.
So, what is your opinion?
Does it matter if God is mentioned on an object hardly anybody gives a close look in daily life and that has for many individuals replaced traditional deotees?

Nobody should need that kind of validation on something so entirely irrelevant to religion. People are overly dependent enough on their faith as it is, without it being stamped on every scrap of metal they happen to have in their pocket. Additionally, it doesn't reflect anything such as society falling out with God so much as it does the upholding of the first amendment.

From the US mint website, it looks like the new coins will have the phrase : www.usmint.gov/mint_programs/$1coin/index.cfm?flash=yesso I dont see the issue anymore. The omission from earlier coins was more likely just an oversight in the first place than some sort of intentional commentary of any sort. I certainly dont see this as a first amendment issue.
