Me either. Can he act? Because Aang, like Zuko, is a tricky role to tackle. Not just anyone can pull it off. It requires a lot more than just being a "cute kid." I hope Shyamalan gets that, but... so far it ain't looking that good.

Eh, it's not so much that McCartney might get the role that bugs me, but the fact that by casting him you can tell exactly what the target audience for this film is going to be. Oh, and for those who don't know who's playing Katara, her picture is here: nerdygoodness.blogspot.com The site also has a picture of the guy playing Sokka, but I'm going to take a wild stab in the dark and assume that everyone here has already seen him, except for me because I avoid teen movies and that's what Twilight looks like.

Maybe the age difference was deliberate to quiet the Zutarians? I highly doubt this casting decision has anything at all the do with Zutara. You do realise I was joking, right? The ships have totally put me off the entire Avatar experience.

They did say they wanted a bunch of unknown actors. So the only one who surprises me is McCartney. And even then...i'll just wait and see. There's always Hollywood make-up.

^^can McCartney even act?
well I think he is a weird choice and I think they should have gotten Dante Basco to play Zuko...he has the voice.

Hahah. Wow, this so figures. I'm not really mad about Jesse McCartney, but Sokka and Katara... no. Just no. Why does she look like a twelve year-old?
I'm saving my judgement on the Noah Ringer guy until I see a picture. Or better yet, something that shows him acting.
This movie will be... an adventure.

It should be noted that in the last paragraph of the EW article...it said that there were trying to get Jesse for the role...so the Zuko role is not set in stone.
Noah Ringer is just christopher reeve...in a sence that he an unknown givin the lead role, will it work.

I'm just hoping they don't turn this masterpiece of a show into an artificial movie made just for money (if they haven't already done so by the casting decisions). I, too, expected people from some sort of Asian-background to play these characters--I didn't expect characters that were completely Caucasian. I'm not racist; I'm only speaking on behalf of Avatar and what it should resemble.
Next thing you know, they're going to have another Caucasian play Toph! (*NUUU!*)

Haha, yes, she does.
We haven't even approached Uncle yet (another great character that shouldn't be messed up).
But all this being said, the movie might turn out great in terms of acting (who knows)--not in Avatar fans like us, who'll probably think the movie will be bad as long as this cast remains, but in the eyes of others, they might think its fine. Obviously we don't, so hopefully the movie makers will compromise with us....

Somehow, my brain is telling me this'll end up like the live adaptations of Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat.>_< Only, much worse....

Mortal Kombat was passable, but, yeah, Street Fighter was cringe-worthy.
The track record for animated-series-to-movie adaptations is not good...the only one I can think of that was any good was Transformers (ironically on the TV behind me right now) and it could be argued that it was based on a toy line...like the original animation.

Noah Ringer is just christopher reeve...in a sence that he an unknown givin the lead role, will it work. The only problem is, even though he was an unknown, Chris Reeve was a Julliard-trained stage actor when he was chosen to play Superman. From all reports, this kid was chosen largely for his martial arts skills (which makes no real sense, since the style of Kung Fu Aang practices is actually less physically demanding than the forceful style Zuko practices, yet they're going with a non-martial arts trained person for that role). Doesn't really make a lot of sense in the grand scheme of things, especially considering Aang is the "star" of the whole shebang.
