Signs was okay...I didn't mind Unbreakable...but that was probably due to my comicbook geekness. The rest of them, though...um...yeah.

I didn't find Avatar by word of mouth. I found Avatar via an ad for the first DVD in one of my X-Men comics. Just the picture of Aang was enough to spark my interest and I thought "I might have to check that out when it comes on Nick here." So I did... . I caught one episode of it on Nickleodoen over a Sunday morning hangover and was instantly hooked.

The first time I ever saw was when I stumbled upon the tail end of The Avatar Returns (they were fighting on the deck of Zuko's ship) while channel surfing. I hadn't even realised that our local Nick was showing it. I didn't stumble upon it again until Jet (which was the first full episode I saw). Of course the very next episode was The Great Divide...it's suprising it didn't sour me to the whole series

Yeah, things will probably be quiet till the full trailer is released. Possibly at the end of the year.

I'm not paying a cent to watch this travesty, seeing as the entire casting choice is a blatant insult to my people. Basically they're telling us that we're not good enough to star as main characters in a movie about our people, our language, our history, and our culture. And if that's not treating us like second-class citizen, then I don't know what is.
They say that they chose those white actors because of their obvious popularity. But that's still like casting Bruce Willis as Shaft in the next Shaft movie. Sure, Brucy is popular, but that would still be racist and just plain wrong, not to mention the whole movie wouldn't make a lick of sense. Seriously, if this kind of thing was being done to a movie featuring African/African American characters, the whole country would be in an uproar.
Besides, they're hopeless fools if they seriously believe that popular white actors are what people want to see in this movie. People didn't make ATLA the most popular Nickelodeon show evar because it showed familiar white American faces. People loved ATLA because it allowed them to immerse themselves in an imaginative and marvelous universe featuring different people and different culture. That was the magic of Avatar, that was what drew people in in the first place. And by getting rid of that they're just dooming themselves to failure.
Wow, haven't been here in a while. Hello to anyone who recognizes me ^^
ps - I'm aware that Patel is asian to be sure, but I'm still dissatisfied. Zuko was of an East Asian ethnicity, not Indian. If I'm being greedy for wanting the movie to stay true to the original material, then greedy I am.

You most certainly are not being greedy.

Um...actually...Dev's English...of Indian parents...so I don't know if he really counts as Asian. The blood is there, but how much of the culture is?

Well you could ask the same sort of thing about Asian Americans or African Americans. Wouldnt necessarily recommend it but you could.

True...but we really don't know how he was raised. I've got the blood of a lot of nations, but the culture of none of them. But Dev's first generation English...his parents were born in India, so he most likely got a strong Indian upbringing.

Non-cuddly Iroh! He looks like he's just waiting for some Earth Kingdom teen to walk up to him and say: "Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." Still, nice find there, dude.
