Hey everyone, as of recently (about a week and a half ago) I decided that I needed to watch some semi-decent show some people might know about. What was it called? Ah yes, Avatar: The Last Airbender.
A small story to show why I'm here:
You see, a few years ago, I saw this wonderful cartoon come on. Already fascinated by the Dragon Ball series, I had a found a deep love for anime that I had never before known about. Unfortunately, I had the tendency to miss episodes on accident, due to real life issues and whatnot. Even while watching my next anime, Yu Yu Hakusho (sp?), I had felt the disappointments of missing episodes. You see, not being able to connect a story in all possible directions that my mind would curiously wander to was more or less devastating, to me.
With this sad devastation in mind, I had given up hope on finishing either of these series, and could only wish in my mind they would magically play on television at the right time and moment (I was prone to a dictating parent, and still am). Finally, a school break allowed me to stay home for a while, and while the stars aligned, I was able to watch a relatively new show, Avatar: TLA. Only by watching the show with my father did I manage to temporarily stop the incessant chores and check-ups by my loving guardian.
It appeared that there was a marathon of sorts on this wonderful show, and as I had quickly become entranced, so had my father. We watched our television in sheer anxiety, complaining of commercials and advertisements while we impatiently waited for our story to continue and unfold (little did we know at the time, we had only watched the first seven episodes of the many available). What seemed to crash into our minds as beautiful artwork and storyline was this magical "American Anime", as I came to endear it with, somehow finally stopped as we stood, when we realized we had to return to our job and school (father and son, respectively).
With this infuriating realization in mind, I knew I would not be able to carefully follow and examine the storyline as I would like, and quit my impossible mission.
Skipping about three years of time (from age 13 to age 16), I have acquired knowledge that has allowed me to watch and replay these episodes in their entirety. What came over me as a simple gesture of boredom, allowed me to find a relight the passion of loving well thought out animation (and has allowed me to reconnect with some of my unfinished projects from even earlier before!). I have now accomplished watching all 61 episodes (or so says wikipedia, I've not taken the time to count them or look for a different source) to complete the third and [so far] final season.
After watching the slightly disappointing, but immensely gratifying ending of The Avatar, I realized I still had a deep-seated hunger to satisfy, and it would only be calmed by learning (and possibly expressing) my enjoyment of the series. I searched quickly upon wikipedia and the interwebs to find a forum to call my own, and partake a membership of sorts to accomplish my goal.
I have now found myself writing this introduction after "lurking" a bit and finding that this forum is one that I would most likely enjoy.
So I greet this forum, and hope that it brings me the happiness I am searching for, in expressing and carefully listening to what others have to say on this wondrous animation.
Now, I feel that anyone that has read my short story in its entirety is quite deserving of knowing who I am personally, so I'll reveal myself:
I'm a 16 year-old boy who finds great joy in animation, music, and talking, but mostly listening, as far as forums go.
In real life, I tend to be more outgoing (oddly enough) than on the internet, but I can also say things more deeply with more thought on an internet forum (being that I have more time for a response, and it is in writing instead of speech).
I have recently been broadening my music tastes. It was only two years ago I had even found a slight taste in music, and it was quite limited. I enjoyed only rock, which then expanded to metal, and in the reverse direction, electronics. This led to my discovery of meaningful, or symbolic lyricists in the rap and hip-hop industry. My taste toward country is still dismal, but in time I might find a joy in this, too. You might wonder why I bring up music at all, and I only do so here to ask a request: If you could spare the time and thought, I would appreciate it if you sent me a PM regarding your personal tastes in music that may affiliate and mix with mine so that I may continue to broaden this spectrum of sound. With this out of the way...
I am open to all sorts of new things, and I greatly try to remain impartial on situations that call for it. I see this forum has large sections dedicated to fanfiction, and with previous experiments of it, I found some taste in it, but not much. This being said, I might find personal interest in this area as well, and I would be greatly humbled if you sent me a PM regarding a personal favorite (or your own!) of a fanfiction of the series. I thank you ahead of time for this.
Now, to an incredibly important measure, for me personally. I desire to customize my membership through avatar and signature, though I've no idea where to start (though I've yet to look very hard). Any assistance would be greatly appreciated on this matter as well.
I write these requests, not really as requests, but more of a humble proposition, and realize I will spend a great deal of my own time searching on my own; this is an obvious fact for me, and I do not wish upon and imagine that one ought or must do what I say - it is a humble question which may speedily be declined, ignored, or any combination of the two. I simply wish to show who I am to the community that I wish to enter and hopefully keep a close place for in my heart.
In the end (or rather, the beginning), thank you for your time and effort in reading my introduction. I hope to see and read much of fellow fan opinions and interests, and hope you regard my entrance with welcome hospitality.
PS: I really enjoy these smilies. Thanks for everyone's time and consideration.
