If Mai was only interested in Zuko she would have sided with Zuko in the beach. Well then...if Mai ISN'T only interested in Zuko then why are so many automatically assuming she'll side with him and turn against her family, her friends and her nation? Is it suddenly evil for Mai to want to stop the fire nation from destroying the world. I'm not assuming she'll join Zuko well just have to wait and see.

What I mentioned befor proves Mai has good quality's that you chose to ignore . Mai shows her emotions differently and a lot can be said in her actions, Mai can care( Nightmares and Daydreams) if she didn't care she would have dumped Zuko a long time ago. I don't understand what it is you think I'm ignoring. Yes, if Mai didn't care about Zuko then she would've dumped him. But we never said she didn't care about him. We're saying he's the ONLY thing she cares about. Which isn't healthy, neither for her or Zuko, nor is it right. I mean, her baby brother was in danger, could have been killed for all she knew, and she hardly flinched. And it can't be out of fear of Azula, because she has defied Azula repeatedly, even going so far as to say "she can throw as much lightning at me as she wants!" Is it suddenly evil for Mai to want to stop the fire nation from destroying the world. Not at all. But Mai has never shown any interest in stopping the war. She has seen people's lives uprooted and homes lost because of it. After all, her parents were ruling over the occupation of Omashu. But she had never been shown to care. When Zuko agonizes about the war council meeting, Mai's reaction is telling Zuko not to worry about it. She isn't concerned at all about the war or people being hurt by it. So for her to suddenly drop all her friends, family, and her nation for a cause she doesn't particularly care about, JUST because her boyfriend's doing it, seems shallow and uncaring.

Mai did care about Tom-Tom thats way she obeyed Azula's orders.Just think about this if Mai would have disobeyed Azula and gotten Tom-Tom Azula would most likely punish her. But not by inflecting physical pain on her but by hurting or even killing Mai's family. Mai's decision was not made out of a cold heart but out of knowing the consequences. Also keep in mind that no matter who the character was in this situation they would have still obeyed Azula or else the episode wouldn't follow the original plan. You also mentioned how she defied Azula in the Drill, Mai's family wasn't at risk it was just Mai alone there was no one to protect. Plus if they won Azula wouldn't even notice Mai didn't listen. But they lost ,and its never said Azula knows ,the only way for Azula to find out is trough Ty Lee.I doubt Ty lee would betray Mai. This is you writing a script that wasn't there. All we have is what was shown to us and what you've written above was simply not even implied. With Ty Lee she was shown what would happen to her if she defied Azula. You might surmise that Mai already knew that and therefore, being smarter than Ty Lee, went along from the beginning. However, it would be terrible writing to never actually show the audience that Mai understood that -- even with a facial expression as I've pointed out -- especially when compared with the scene in the same episode where they highlighted the bullying of Ty Lee. The comparison showed Mai as someone who was perfectly willing to go along with all of Azula's plans. As I've been saying though, they may have changed their minds about how they portrayed her and they're trying to make it up now with The Beach and the way she had a completely different -- almost Katara-like -- personality in N&D. Her character in season 3 has looked like a scramble to say the least. Here's something you'll like Nandireya. I theorize they'll do an episode all about Mai's situation -- "Mai's Lost Days" or "Mai Alone" if you will -- and iron out all the kinks and haphazard characterization they've hit us with in these past two seasons. That way they can end it the way they want to whether they did the original legwork for it or not. I don't want to see that happen, but it hit me that it's about the only way they can get her from point A(zula) to point Z(uko) without much of the audience throwing up their hands and saying "oh come ON!" I just stated the obvious if you can't see its cause you chose not to. Watch the episode again. The hesitation that Mai has I also theorize Mai doesn't looked as phased as she should because azula had already told her ahead of time.

The creators said that Azula tests their loyalty I'm pretty sure Mai probably knows better then to flinch when Azula's around to get to Azula's "good side".

You're creating something that is not on the screen. Certainly not apparant in that tiny bit of hesitation you see. That's a lot of detail you're putting in and you simply can't know that your view of it was what was intended because it doesn't appear on the screen nor is it alluded to. We only have what's there. Regardless, it would be a great shock to me if she chose Azula in the end and I wouldn't buy it for a second.

Well, I wouldn't say it was exactly hesitation, (even though I said it, but didn't mean it in that way) but she was defiantly "thinking".

But Azula managed to get Zuko to betray Iroh...I wouldn't put anything past that manipulative little so-and-so...

But Azula managed to get Zuko to betray Iroh...I wouldn't put anything past that manipulative little so-and-so... True, but there was already that little dirty look that Mai threw Azula in The Headband. I think they were setting up resentment from Mai. In any case I can't see Mai doing anything to go against Zuko at this point. Her character is defined by her feelings for him now. It would be the perfect switcheroo from the creators if it happened, but as I say about a lot of things, just because the end result is what I wanted doesn't mean I'm going to be satisfied with how they got there and I'm not sure what Azula could offer that would make Mai turn her back for real on Zuko.

Her good quality's. Zuko is not the only thing she cares about which I've pointed out before. But you also chose to ignore that. She hesitated before making the choice giving the same look there that she later gave Azula in the headband Is it suddenly evil for Mai to want to stop the fire nation from destroying the world. Maybe Zuko leaving was the realization that she needed to make her decision. Also this last part is pointless to discuss because we do not know Mai's decision yet.

It took Zuko 3 years for him to say "Screw this, I'm going to the good side."

Exactly, they both did the same thing. So saying Zuko is going to be upset with Mai for that is calling him a hypocrite. It doesn't matter if he thought it was right, it was wrong and he did it. I bet the guy who shot Martin Luther King Jr. thought he was doing "right" also (Okay, i know it's not that seriously, but i couldn't think of any other comparison at the moment xD) She didn't seem care to you, but to me, she did seem to care (you can tell by those screenshots she was thinking about it) If she didn't care at all, those screenshots that were posted wouldn't exist Okay, i know we don't like to think good thoughts about Mai, but perhaps it wasn't her life she was afraid of? Perhaps she was thinking of her brother's well-being by making the decision she did? If she would've defied Azula right then, Azula would've most likely hurt Tom-Tom and i'm certain Mai knew that (Azula put Ty Lee's life in danger for not willingly following her at first, I can't image what she would've done to Tom-Tom if Mai would've did the same thing). She's a lot smarter than people want to give her credit for..... ....Nah, everyone knows she's a heartless b*tch who doesn't deserve the angel's (Zuko) love *sighs* Dinglehopper is so awesome. God, I hope when Mai confronts Azula she brings up that whole brother scenario I don't know what's going to be more enjoyable, that actually scene or the people trying to find some way to disprove it Wow...and it took Zuko what? Three years?

I love that picture so much ^-^
I also highly doubt Mai has seen as much as the bad stuff about the war then Zuko has.

She's a lot smarter than people want to give her credit for..... As I said before. This is fanfic writing. There's no indication on screen or in the dialogue that she had these thoughts or this understanding. Not even the 'hesitation' can suggest all of that detail. People won't try to disprove it if she says something definitive about it. Just because you think everyone else is an idiot doesn't mean they are. I would love for her to bring it up, but to tell you the truth, they'd better do some pretty fancy writing (much better than that stupid, bogus beach scene) to make it believable because what they'll basically be doing is going back and rewriting that scene in exposition. Very difficult. It would have been a lot more efficient and effective to have put all of that in the Return to Omashu epi in the first place.

There are scenes that people disregard (NAD, because she was caring about Zuko...wait...the only thing she cares about is Zuko) But people still see the bad even if the scenes weren't trying to say "Hate her because the only thing she cares about is Zuko." They don't try to even think about the good of that scene. All this is proof of her bad qualities.
No one called you an idiot.
