I may have been ticked after CoD...but I too was looking for some depth in its aftermath...Zuko was clearly distressed at the end there. But instead we got dance parties, painted ladies, cheesy 'romantic' lines and scam-pulling good guys.

I know. They sacrificed what could have been a very good amount of time for Zuko for a lot of filler.
Look at it this way...the gAang really didn't have much to do until the eclipse, right? Zuko did! He had everything to do! But they skipped it. He wasn't in half the episodes.
And a good portion of what he was in was devoted to the romance. So yeah...I feel a bit of resentment. And that won't change as the show goes on. Because they skipped a lot of what I thought could have been really good character moments for him.
So I don't really care what happens to Mai. As long as she stops messing up Zuko's development.

I don't care a thing for Zuko for one, so his relationship with Mai was the only thing keeping me entertain in his character for a good part of this season.
I prefered the "smooching" and the "cheesy lines" over the little b*tchy fits
I know it wasn't suppose to be, but the "I'm going to join the Avatar" line was very random to me 0_o
Wow Zuko, do you really think it's going to be that easy? (and it better not be >.<)
M & B have not disappointed me yet, but if it ends up being:
Zuko: "I'm come to join you and teach you firebending" Aang: "OKAY!" ^^ Katara and Sokka: "grr......fine" >.<
I might feel an ounce of disappointment (only an ounce though, which i'll be over in about an episode or two xD)

I'm not a fan of the fits either. I expected more...contemplating.

Agreed...I didn't care at all for Zuko this season until The Avatar and the Fire Lord...and then we got absolutely no look at his reaction to that little bombshell...we just got more filler!
But we're getting a tad off-topic here...

I'm not a fan of the fits either. I expected more...contemplating. So did I. I also didn't really expect Zuko to come to both conclusions (that he didn't belong on his father's side and needing to join the Avatar) at the same time and so abruptly. To me, Zuko screwed up his own developement. I liked the Mai/Zuko scenes in and of themselves. I like that Mai was there for him when everything else in his life seemed to be going downhill in his mind and I liked that Zuko had a supporter who actually let him make his own decisions instead of making them for him. That was something he needed if you ask me. Although I sincerely miss Ty Lee. /random

I'm not a big fan of mai so my hopes are that she stays with Azula but I have a feeling that both Mai and Ty Lee will turn against Azula... probably foreshadowing the entire FN turning on the throne behind Iroh, Zuko and the avatar. That would leave Ozai and Azula alone... but that's just what I'm expecting

Personally, I'm glad that Zuko left Mai! Everytime there was a shot with them being all snuggly, it just kind of made me want to scream at him and say "What the H*** do you see in her!!!"

^No, the question is "What in the hell does Mai see in him?!?!"
Mai's far out of Zuko's league imo ;p

How about what the hell do either of them see in the other? (lol) We've never seen either one of them actually eat the food they're given. Maybe they share an eating disorder? Does anybody in the world think Mai and Ty Lee would ever set out on their own to find Zuko or the gaang? Would there be any incentive to do that besides Mai's inability to breath without constant mouth-to-mouth from Zuko? I do think a Ty Lee/Mai desertion is a distinct possibility, but then the obviousness of it may be exactly why they'll stay.

^Except you weren't excited after CoD, of course. I was really expecting some great interaction between Zuko, Azula and Ozai and watching him slowly change...what I got was whinesmoochwhinesmoochwhinesmoochredeemed. Ya know, I really wanted the interaction between the three of them too, and didn't get it at all. Maybe that's really why this season was totally disappointing for me really, until 306, and then more disappointment until DoBS. They really had a lot they could have done and they really botched it, they skipped a whole mess of stuff. Now, it's all gonna be rushed and even though it may be exciting, it's still gonna be a bit disappointing to me. What I really would like to know is the exact reason Zuko suddenly changed his mind, why did he suddenly realize what he had to do? I'm happy with the change, I knew it would happen, but really what set it off? As for the subject at hand, whatever happens with Mai is whatever to me, but if they have her trapsing all over the Avatar world looking for him, it'll tick me off big time. This is Zuko's time to shine, to do right, to finally be the real Zuko. He really doesn't need a girl complicating that. If in the end, she still wants the real Zuko, great, I'm all for it. Someone said that maybe Azula will use that letter and the fact he left to turn her against him, I could really see that, but it does sound a bit obvious. We all know she's gonna be hurt, what will be interesting is seeing what she does with it.

So I don't really care what happens to Mai. As long as she stops messing up Zuko's development. Like I've said: people don't give Zuko enough credit. If he's not angsting or rejoicing by convincing himself he's not angsting, then he's suddenly OOC or in filler. Jeez people, can't the guy just have some time to be a teenager? Yes, yes, I know; he's a prince and a total hothead, but his journey has been more than just ominously vowing to fulfill his destiny a thousand times. We saw it with Jin--and I like to think with Song, but that's me being a bit of a shipper--Zuko sometimes just needs time to remember he can stop trying to be so much of an adult. He takes on too much for himself, and when it's time for a well deserved break, it's not okay? As far as the "change" goes--please, we've been seeing this all of season three, starting from when he admitted he missed Iroh, to when he hated his time at the beach, to where we saw him just wanting to walk to Mai's house instead of using the royal procession, right until he said it. Maybe it's me being an over analyst, because I totally am, but I think if you really pay attention, you see it. Actions speak louder than words.

^The thing is, I enjoyed his moments with Song AND Jin because they were well-written. What I saw so far this season was very different. A Zuko who's clearly inexperienced and uncertain around girls? That's endearing. A Zuko who goes from horrible lines to raging outbursts when around his girl? Blech.
Zuko being a normal teenager? Great, bring it on! But I never saw anything that struck me as "normal."
Like that little spat on the beach.
"Here Mai have a shell."
"No."
"BLLLAAAARGH!"
This was a crucial time for Zuko. Maybe that's what you missed...Zuko being normal would be a great thing to see, but at this state of the story...it's probably the most important stage in his development. But they pretty much skipped it. And that is dissapointing.
