^ Were you even born during Carter's Presidency? Why are you reaching that far back? That's like saying we shouldn't talk about the Great Depression because we weren't alive.

Let's deflate some of the heated statements around here.

^ Were you even born during Carter's Presidency? Why are you reaching that far back? If it was to remind people of a US Naval Academy graduate who was actualy qualified to be president, I retract my question with apologies. Just because someone wasn't born during a certain time doesn't mean that someone else's presidency isn't a valid comparison. :/ I disagree. The electoral college keeps morons out of office because other morons elected them. And like Horyo said, let's stop passing the h8orade.

^ PO, the comparison and the reason for making that comparison was for historyman to make and he hasnt done either. He just threw out President Carter's name without explaining why. I suspect that he knows less about President Carter than he does about President Kennedy. Thats not a personal attack; there has just been much more media coverage about President Kennedy. You can discuss the Spanish Inquisition if you make your point and back it up. Still, to show that this is not just an age issue, allow me to rephrase the question: I didn't watch it, A.M. I saw all I need to in the one last week. When McCain resorted to calling Obama "That One," yeah, that was really childish. Not that I was ever considering voting for him, anyway. Just look where 8 years of Republican government have gotten us! As opposed to the political mastermind that was Jimmy Carter? What makes President Carter so relevant to the current discussion that you would leap frog over the last Democratic President for the one before especially considering that the one before was last President 28 years ago?

Maybe Jimmy Carter is just his favorite president...
My sister's friends were making fun of McCain because he can't raise his hands above his shoulders. that is low.

Maybe because Clinton wasn't a train wreck.

The "train wreck" youre referring to created both the Department of Energy (so that America now has an national energy policy with some level of conservation goals) and the Department of Education as well as negotiated a lasting peace between Israel and Egypt. Any idea what the legacy of Bush's presidency will be? Still, I appreciate your admission that Clinton wasnt a train wreck. Maybe Jimmy Carter is just his favorite president... I have my doubts.

Inflation Gas Lines Cut the Defense Budget (needed at that time) Helped the Sadinista. Ignored His Excellency Most Reverend Oscar Romero's request to avoid giving aid to the El Salvadorian government. SALT (Gave the USSR much needed rest) Operation Cyclone (may have in the long run enabled Al-Qaeda) and everyone's favorite: The Iranian Hostage Crisis You have guessed right my friend.

Guys, this is starting to turn into a debate. If you feel like debating, take it to the CT. This thread is merely for opinions on the matter, not srs stuff.

Agreed, night.
Take the debate to the CT thread. If this becomes Obama v. McCain 2.0, I'm L&T'ing it. D:

^^ Fair enough, guys. Sorry if it sounded a bit heated. Im happy for this thread to remain just about a straight opinion poll. 18 more days! Historyman, if you want to continue the discussion, we can take it the CT thread.

Jimmy Carter was a MUCH better President than George W. Bush! And I wasn't even around then. And that's the last I'm saying in this thread.
