(I'm starting the rp here; if you still want to sign up you can post your character here: distanthorizons.proboards31.com/index.cgi?board=aboutrp&action=display&thread=1181936532&page=1 ) Moaning slightly, Hisae turned over on her mat, trying to remain in her dream, if only for a moment longer. While she slept, her mind was back at her village, and the being that was once her was playing with the small children, entertaining them by earthbending small play-structures. She had cherished the feeling of her control of the earth, even if it was a bit difficult. The smiles of the children were still on the back of her eyelids when the wake-up bell sounded. Opening her eyes, Hisae found the visions were gone, and reality was the huge metal towers around her, guarding the prison camp made entirely of a substance that not even the masters could bend. The wake up bell rang out yet again, piercing her ears. She sat up slowly, trying to use her stomach muscles so as to not strain her wounded wrists. Grimacing, she pulled with all her might and contracted her stomach, but she could not pull herself up. She was weak, she knew, and the ultimate feeling of helplessness washed over her again. As the other prisoners around her rose, she finally decided to push up with her hands, and, despite the sharp pain, she knew there would be no more food left if she did not hurry up. She stood up and mingled with the crowd of weary prisoners walking across the rows of bamboo mats towards the courtyard of the camp, where guards were serving the watery soup that was supposed to sustain them. Hisae had only been here a few days, but she hadn't yet become accustomed to the bitter taste. As soon as she received her portion from the men in fire nation armor, she quickly walked over to a spot where nobody was sitting. She gently balanced the soup bowl on the palms of her hangs and sipped, looked around. She didn't recognize anyone at all. There were hundreds of prisoners, and they were from all over the Earth Kingdom. She had lost track of her fellow villagers on the boatride here, and although hope bubbled in her shrinking soul, she doubted that she would see them again. More prisoners came in each day, and just as many were brought out; sold as slaves, imprisoned elsewhere or even killed, Hisae did not know. She heard rumors of men being forced to work in mines and other horrible things, but she didn't hear much about women; in fact, there were very few women in the prison camp she was at; perhaps 10 men per woman. Her village had consisted entirely of women and children at the time of the attack, but other prisoners seemed to be captured earth kingdom battalions. It may seem as though she could pick out her villagers, but this was not so. There were rumors of several other prison camps along the coast, and surely they could be in any one of those scary places. The officers marched through the camp, eyeing the prisoners and yelling to maintain order. It was only dawn, but they always woke the prisoners early, as more were deported each day. So far, Hisae hadn't been given much of a thought by the guards, which suited her fine. Along with her dreams of the village came nightmares of the attack by the fire nation soldier; instinctively, she pulled her legs together as a guard marched through. Most of the soldiers working here seemed threatening, although it may have been war that had hardened them. She tried to avoid eye contact with anyone, any man, lest the scary memories return. Sipping the last of the soup in her bowl, Hisae returned it to the courtyard. She heard the sounds of the gates to the camp opening across the metal walls, and knew that more people were probably coming to the prison camp today, and that fire nation nobles from the city may come to take prisoners away as well. To Hisae's surprise, another bell sounded, and the guards in the courtyard yelled at the people in the area to move towards another area of the camp. The bell resounded and echoed across the metal of the walls and floor. They were ordered into the area where Hisae had first arrived- There were great metal doors within her line of vision, but the guard around them was heavy. Many cells held prisoners who were getting ready to be examined and deported, or who knows what. Many officers walked around the high walls; escape would be impossible, not like she was going to try. She did stick out, a young girl among soldiers and benders alike, and unfamiliar villagers from other regions. All the other children remained with mothers, whereas any other girl or two she might have spotted that was around her age too held a small baby. The large group were put into prison cells; Hisae assumed they would be leaving today. As she clenched her fists in anger, the searing pain from the burns returned and she almost doubled over in agony. She sat down in the cell, feeling almost hopeless. Through the bars she watched the entrance gates open and the formation of fire nation soldiers and prisoners. She felt helpless and just wanted her fate to happen, no matter what it might be. (sorry it's so long, I was just trying to get the mood established. Feel free to start in other locations and they can merge together as the rp progresses)

As the sun rises in the nation that is located in the very west, the pupils of the Yu Yan Archery Academy of the Fire Nation wake up after hearing the bell three times. The boys get up as quickly as they can and make sure that their beds are neat. In a moderate, but fast pace, the pupils of the academy walk calmly to the room where they get their usual bowl of healthy breakfast. Kazuo looks around; it’s the same routine every day when he is here. They all look like a bunch of lifeless machines that are doing the same thing over and over again. Kazuo enters the room and stands in the queue, he is in deep thought. It is nine years already, it all happened nine years ago. A group of men came unannounced, tough expected, with a letter. He was curious to know from who the letter was. As he saw a tall man walk to the group of men, a pregnant woman, whom he was familiar to, carried him into his room. He didn’t understand why all people had a sad expression on their face; it gave him a bad feeling. He didn’t understand anything, everyone was so big. He wanted to know what was happening so badly, if he understood what they were saying….. “Kazuo! KA-ZOO-OH!” Kazuo’s eyes opened widely as he remembered where he was. The boy behind him in the queue was hungry. Shook from his memories, he took the bowl that lied before him. A sorry without emotion escaped his lips and he walked to a free table. The room was big with reds and greys. Kazuo was fed up with it, he would rather train at the moment. He had only fifteen minutes to eat, and he knew that the teacher had prepared a hard training for him and his fellow pupils. Without hesitation, Kazuo began eating the almost colour-less, transparent goody in his bowl. While he was eating in a fast pace, he was in deep thought again. It was like yesterday to him. If he only understood what they were saying, he would embrace them and live with their pain. He heard the footsteps of the men; they were leaving. The little boy stayed in the room until he didn’t hear the heavy footsteps of the men anymore. The tall man, whom he loved so much, smiled warmly to him. As he lifted him up, he hugged him. A soft, but manly voice whispered him courage in his heart. “Take care, I’m proud.” That were the words, and even tough he didn’t know a lot of words; he knew what the tall man meant. The young boy didn’t know why, but suddenly, tears were streaming across his soft cheek. Again the pregnant woman appeared who was humming a familiar lullaby. As she was almost at the end of the lullaby, she wiped his tears from his cheek. Slowly, his eyelids became heavy. The tall man took his bags and hugged him for one last time. Softly, he put his hands on the stomach of the pregnant woman as he kissed her on the forehead. He also placed his lips on the forehead of the young boy who was almost asleep now. Then he exited the house and he disappeared. The young boy closed his eyes and fell asleep. Fifteen minutes passed by this quickly and Kazuo just finished his breakfast. He couldn’t wait for the training. Kazuo sighed slightly, again the pupils of the academy walked as lifeless machines to the training camp where a difficult training was awaiting them. (kind of short, but I have lack of inspiration…. XD, this is my first time, so I hope it’s okay, also I'm from the Netherlands, so that's the reason for some grammatical errors... ….)

Samnang could barely remember the last three days. He could only recall scarlet flames, his mother screaming, and yells of triumph as a flag bearing a Fire Nation insignia hoisted in the air. He remembered being shoved into a dark metal monster surrounded by the faces of the rest of the village boys, and the worst memory of all of his mother weeping, begging them not to take him, but her instead.
A sharp pain in his back and a shout of "Move it!," spiraled Samnang back into reality. The memories of the fire and tears were washed away as he was pushed into the light, wherever they were taking him they had arrived. After being in the dark for two days, the slowly rising sun seemed blinding. He put his arm up in front of his squinting eyes as men and boys were being herded like sheep to a small dock with a dozen small boats, each looking like they would hold six people. There was a tiny speck in the horizon.
Two men in fire nation uniforms shoved he and three other boys into a row boat. The further they rowed , the speck started to become more clear. As they got closer the speck turned out to be a giant metal building. It become obvious that it was a prison camp as they docked.
"Move!" one of the men yelled, Samnang and the three other boys quickly climbed out the boat and followed the uniformed men to a large gate. One of the men made a motion with his left hand and the gate creaked open to reveal more people that Samnang had ever seen. They were all dressed in the same ragged clothes, and most looked sickly. The Fire Nation soldiers shoved the four boys in and the gates closed with a large bang.
[yeah not so good. -_- ]

It was early morning. The sun has just risen and Lien woke up from her sleep. She was tired, yes, but she knew there was work to be done. She put on her pants, tunic, then dress and she slowly headed out of her room, into the kitchen.
Her mom was standing there, holding this round looking thing, and said "Eat this. Then go out to work." So she did what she was told and soon headed out to the fields. She worked until the sun was right above her head, picking the grains and tying them into bundles. It was hard work, but she was used to doing it which made it much easier.
After a few more hours of manual labor her mother yelled for her to get ready for her classes. She immediately finished tying her bundle and ran into the house to get ready.
A few minutes later, she was out on the street, walking towards her chance of becoming a firebending master. She thought in triumphantly her head, "Soon, I shall become one of the greatest firebenders!"
When she got there, her master still wasn't there, so she started to warm up. It was strange though, since her teacher was always early waiting there. Minutes (which seemed like hours) her teacher finally came running in. He apologized and said that there were some family matters that I had to take care of. After saying that they started practicing a move where you flip and shoot fire out of you feet/arms.
Lien was able to flip but not, shoot the fire. She practiced it many times but still hadn't gotten it by the end of the class. While she headed out she thought, "Oh well. There's always tomorrow!"
(I know I didn't write much, but there wasn't much for me to write.)

Hisae and the group of prisoners sat in the cell for what felt like hours, watching the new prisoners march into the camp. Hisae could not see their faces clearly, but she couldn't help wondering who they were, what their stories were, or who they had left behind.
Hisae leaned her head against the cool metal sleepily. She had been woken up early for the last few days, and she was finally about to get deported, or so she thought. Who knows? They might just get killed, she realised with a shiver, and through all her wanting to escape the pain, she knew deep down that she did not want to die just yet, that there had to be more out of life that she hadn't experienced.
Hisae felt a tingling in her fingers again, realising that moving the injury so much this morning was making them go numb again. Immediately, she rested her hangs in her lap and closed her eyes. She knew that if she aggravated the burns enough then she would never fully heal. She drifted into a daytime sleep during the next half an hour, the type of sleep when you hear all that is around you in a semi-conscious state, but your mind is resting in peaceful bliss. Every few minutes she opened her eyes, startled by some noise, but then closed them again, to return to the soft half-world of memories in which she rested her eyes beneath the darkness of her lids.
Suddenly, a loud clanging of a bell brought her back into full consciousness. The gates were closing as the guards were bringing in the last of the prisoners, which, from what Hisae guessed from a distance, appeared to be four teenage boys.

Kazuo was on his way home, he was almost there. He was standing in front of his luxurious, upper-class designed house, relieved to be home. Despite his ambitions and dreams, he never felt like a boy at the Yu Yan Academy, nor did he feel like a man. During training he wanted to be the best, which he actually was for his age. Kazuo wanted to fight in the war; he wanted to make his father proud. Now that he arrived home, Kazuo could actually ‘feel’ again. He wanted to see the smile on his little sister’s face, the kind of smile that seemed to say: its okay, now you can be Kazuo again.
Kazuo walked up the stairs that was decorated with gold and reds. He opened the big golden door and he noticed he was very tired. He stood in the hallway, while he was taking of his dirty boots which he trained with this morning. He heard his mother and sister laughing which made him happy. It seemed to come from the kitchen. Then he heard the voice of a man, the voice surely didn’t match his uncle’s. Kazuo knew it didn’t match the neighbor’s voice as well. The unknown man was laughing along with his mother and sister. After hearing laughter escape his lips again, Kazuo felt strange, it looked like his intestines were going to explode. He didn’t understand; it felt so weird.
Instead of standing in the hallway like a tree, he walked out of the long hallway, through the Fire Nation red living room until he was in the kitchen. There he found his mother, sister and the suspicious man. The raven bangs of Kazuo’s sister moved slightly as she turned to see who entered their kitchen. A pair of light brown eyes met a pair of dark ones and Kazuo’s sister smiled. But this wasn’t the usual smile, no, this smile was different. It looked like Natsuko got something where she waited for what seemed like eternity.
Kazuo’s mother broke the silence: “Here’s my big boy, how are you sweetheart?” Kazuo wanted to respond, but his eyes observed the man which turned around to see Kazuo himself. Again he felt that strange feeling, it was driving him insane. The man looked familiar, but from where? He saw dark brown eyes and raven hair in a top-knot. Also, a long, but slightly big nose. Who in the name of the Fire Lord is he? Kazuo was in deep thought. “You sure have grown up, Kazuo”, said the man calmly. That voice, that voice was driving him insane even more. The man saw Kazuo’s eyes; the boy was confused. “Take care, I’m proud”, said the man this time, only slightly softer. Kazuo was even more confused right now. His eyes widened, he was astonished. It was as if thunder struck him. One word chuckled out if his mouth; happy, tough as if he didn’t believe it: “Fa-father?!”

Cho could feel the waves crashing against the Fire Nation Ship that she was thrown in during the Fire Nation raid of her village. Cho sat in her small cell in despair. In her cell, there was nothing. No windows, no basin to clean herself with, not even a mat to sleep on. She was surrounded by hard metal. She had been in this cell for three days, and she guessed that she would soon be arriving at her destination. Cho closed her eyes and began to think of a plan to get out of her predicament. Maybe perhaps, as they were removing her from the boat, she could try to get in view of the ocean so she could waterbend, "But then again," thought Cho, "even the Fire Nation wouldn't be that stupid as to let me near the ocean." Just then, a Fire Nation guard approached her cell and told her that they had arrived at their destination, and as of now, she was just another prisoner.
Sorry it's so short! I'm going to the movies in a minute, so i'll add on later!

As Samnang and the others eventually had gotten used to their surroundings, they started to separate. Samnang watched as they started looking for family members that were also abducted, but he knew there was a slim chance of any reuniting. There were many prison camps all across the Earth Kingdom, and they were all so big it would be impossible to find one specific person.
Samnang wandered around for a while, thinking. There were so many people here, and it came to him how far the war had spread, and how many people it had hurt. He had once thought it impossible for the Fire Nation to reach his home, let alone countless other villages. He had been proved wrong suddenly, and now he was all alone.
He walked slowly to a small fire, where a few people in ragged clothing where huddling, and eating some strange porridge. He was offered some, but he declined. After the events of the last few days, he felt sick to his stomacher. He sat around the fire, listening to the other prisoners talk feebly about their once great villages, and how they were conquered. He listened, but spoke nothing.

Hisae watched the newcomers with little interest as she continued to sit back in the crowded metal cell. However, not long after the last of the new prisoners were pushed into the prison camp, a group of soldiers came over to the large cell. Thinking this was the end, Hisae closed her eyes and pretended to sleep.
When the door creaked open, they were all led outside and lined up. The sun was now high in the sky; it was about noon. Sitting in the cell all morning had made Hisae stiff, and she stumbles once, accidentally bumping the man in front of her, to whom she mumbled an apology.
Now being able to see more clearly, Hisae saw a fire nation noble with the soldiers. She didn't hear what they said, but all of the boys and men in the group from the prison cells were led away by soldiers after the noble, perhaps they would be slaves. Hisae was unsure. Very few were left, save herself and a few other women with children, and then the guards pushed them away, as they were not needed anymore.
Hisae felt a bit of relief; she would not be sent away today. But the tense, uncertain feeling of hopelessness was returning again. She could starve to death here, or become ill, or her injuries could become infected; there were so many posibilities, so many prisoners, and not an herbalist or elder who viewed all these people as any more than scum. Hanging her hands by her side, she walked around the groups of prisoners who spoke quietly, and again sat away, against a cold, hard metal wall in the courtyard of the prison camp.

Though it was still morning, Samnang grew tired quickly. He hadn't been able to sleep during the three day trip from his home. Now that he had been able to relaz without Fire Benders breathing down his throat, all the weariness from the trip came down on him quickly.
Of course, he thought, this doesn't seem like the place that supplies warm beds to sleep in, does it? He tried to stifle a yawn as he got slowly to his feet. He decided to go find the comfiest slap on metal and shut his eyes for a while. As he wandered around the prison camp, he saw many other prisoners, either eating or a few still asleep. He nearly tripped over a women with a small child, mumbling an apology as she began to stir.
He finaly decided to curl up in a corner. He wasn't cold, so he didn't bother trying to get closer to a fire. He put his back against the cool, metal wall, and closed his eyes.

It was early in the morning and Kazuo woke up because he couldn’t sleep. He still couldn’t believe that his father returned after all those years, which seemed like eternity. He felt a shiver down his spine and joy overwhelmed his unbelief. Kazuo was always a realist, but for the first time in his life he felt like he was dreaming. He pinched his soft cheek, tough he already knew what the result was, it hurt. No, he wasn’t dreaming.
Suddenly he heard voices whispering and some noise, which must have been footsteps, from what Kazuo heard. He understood his father had to work already, but secretly he hoped desperately he could spend a day with his beloved father. His father had told little about the place where he was positioned. The little bit he told was that he worked near by home, which was great of course! Kazuo chatted with Natsuko before they went to bed. Natsuko was so happy; she was shining like the sun. It was her first time to see her father, and visa verse. He heard his mother whispering goodbye and he knew his father left by now.
Kazuo decided to get out of his bed and take a shower. He had a bathroom of his own in his bedroom; they were separated by a door which was red with gold, like most of their big house. As he was showering Kazuo didn’t understand why his uncle and aunt didn’t stop by. Surely the knew that his father arrived?
Natsuko and mother Kozue were chatting in the kitchen, Kazuo just entered. His sleepy eyes looked like they were half-open. “Good morning!”, said Natsuko cheerfully. Kazuo opened his light-brown eyes completely now and he answered with a moan. “Good morning”, he said tired. He wondered why his uncle didn’t stop by to say hi to his father. While Kazuo was thinking about his uncle, his mother put the breakfast on the table.
“Mom, where’s uncle, why didn’t he stop by yesterday?”, asked Kazuo, less tired now. His mother turned to put the plate with some fish on the table, she was busy actually. “Kazuo, uncle did stop by yesterday, he stayed hours with us”, replied Natsuko, as if she knew everything. Kazuo was quite sad; the reunion would have been more fun if their aunt and uncle stayed. “Kazuo, uncle had an appointment and he was late already”, Kazuo’s mother explained. “You know how it works, he teaches children fire bending, and the child he had an appointment with is different.” Kazuo didn’t understand; was the kid uncle had an appointment with this different that he couldn’t cancel it for the day? Kazuo spoke his mind: “How do you mean different, mother?” “Because she is a low-class citizen, she is poor.” Natsuko answered for her mother again, which began to irritate Kazuo. “Great, is he going to teach the Avatar next”, said Kazuo sarcastically while he was walking out of the room, knowing that his mother didn't like what he said.

Hisae could not sleep; her mind was becoming restless again. It didn't take long for her to wish that she had been taken away, for a change of scenery or at least something to happen. She kept changing her mind; for sure she must be going crazy. Life in this prison was so bleak. She missed her simple, happy life in the village with the women and children. They used to talk about everyday things; whose children behaved best, how the harvest was going, who did the best cooking, and other such things. They never talked about the war, or the men who were gone...in keeping the war out of their minds and conversation, they had lived everyday lives in which the war was unreal, a far away thing that would never touch them.
But yet it had. She looked around, taking in her surroundings. She was a prisoner. Her village had been attacked and she had been violated by a fire nation soldier. She shivered whenever she thought about it, so she put the thought aside again. This was all real, not a dream, and she had to accept that. She looked at the people in groups, huddled around fires; the guards walking around the walls, keeping a fierce lookout; the forms that had collapsed, sleeping on the ground, and...
Hisae spotted a boy not too far from where she was sitting. He was in a corner of the area and appeared to be sleeping. He didn't seem threatening, but Hisae was worried about men of any age; she turned her body away slightly. What is wrong with me? she thought. But the fire nation soldier appeared in the front of her mind again, vivid as anything. Suddenly she had no second thoughts about staying exactly where she was. The image of the terrible man remained, her wrists ached, and, putting her head down, she began to cry silently.

Lien continued to walk home. When she reached her home, she ate her dinner, and then went to sleep.
The next day, she worked, and then went to her classes. But, before they started her teacher pulled her over, and started to talk to her. He said, "Lien, as you can see, you are more advanced than most of the other students. I can't teach you advanced moves separately and have time to teach the others their moves. It would be too much for me to manage and the other students might think low of you. I think it would be best if you had your own separate teacher. There is one man who teaches students separately. Maybe you can go to him. I don't really know where he lives but you should find him somewhere."
Lien replied sadly, "Okay. So this will be my last class here?" "Yes, it will."
Lien's class ended soon. She waved goodbye to her classmates and her teacher, and slowly walked back home.
When she reached her home, she told her mother what happened. Her mother didn't say anything to that matter, but she did say that aletter from her father had come and that it was sitting in her room. Lien rushed to her room, opened the letter and read it. Her father didn't say much. After reading the letter, she wrote back to him and told him about her classes and everything that was going on.
A few days later she got another letter from her father. It said that one of his friend's (in the war) brother taught firebending.

((Weee! I get to start now! Except, all of your stories are so good, I don't know which to join! ^^))
Kagoshi woke up as suddenly as she had fallen asleep. The images from her dream were still painted in her thoughts, and nothing she thought of could take them away.Fire, her mother, and being thrown against a wall clouded her memory. Then, that horrible scream clouded her other thoughts, as she lazily got up and took a bath. After her bath, she started searching her closet. "Hm,what to wear, what to wear," she said quietly, wrapped in a towel, soaking wet."Well, i'm going to see if I can talk to Earth Kingdom prisoners today while doing Dad's errands,so something EK-y....Oh yeah, this!" She grabbed a white shirt with green cuffs, and the matching plaid skirt and quickly changed. She put her hair up in a small bun and added a hairband. She grabbed her packpack, and rushed into the kitchen, grabbed a pear, and called goodbye. She grabbed her Fire Nation pass and the papers she neede to deliver.Hugging them to her chest, she ran smiling out the door and jogged to the stronghold in the distance. She couldn't help but become sad as she saw the outlines of that giant prison, separating people and encasing them like slaves, even though they had lived in the Earth Kingdom for many years. "Gawd, it's so sad-making," she sighed as she showed the front guard her pass and walked through the giant doors held open for her."Thank you!" She walked sadly to her father's office, putting down the papers, then organizing them into there correct drawers. She grinned and walked out of "the office of doom". "I think I'm gonna-WOaH!" Kagoshi started. Then she fell onto the floor of the ship, the wind whipping her hair around. She lay there for a moment, before she heard fooysteps.

“Wow! I sure am proud to have kids who are this skilled!” said a certain father. Kazuo just arrived and heard laughter from both his father and sister. It seemed to come from the backyard. Kazuo knew that this wasn’t a dream, yet he couldn’t do anything to shake the thought that he was dreaming out of his head. His father watched him training in the backyard yesterday, he showed the best he could. It was as if his life was depending on it; to see the astonished but proud face of his father. Kazuo couldn’t be happier with the response he got from his father. He was thinking about it every time, he couldn’t wait.
“Honey, did you manage to get lichiis at the grocery?” asked Kazuo’s mother. Kazuo forgot about his thoughts as soon as he heard his mother’s voice. “Yeah mom, no problem, there were enough left. Are you going to make a pie by any chance mom?” said Kazuo nosily after he replied to his mother. Mother Kozue turned and faced her son: “Yes I am honey, go play with your father and sister now.” Kazuo ran out of their big oval-formed, Fire Nation red kitchen and exited the door that led him to the backyard. While running he heard his mother humming a song, a song he wasn’t familiar with. His mother was probably very happy that their father came back. Everything seemed perfect.
The young archer in training was very happy to see his sister and father laughing once he arrived at the backyard. The voice of a young girl said: “And look at this move dad!” Natsuko was trying to do a fire bending move. Flames surrounded the young girl’s right fist and her right arm moved in circles. Suddenly little fire left her fist. “The fire is too small!” whispered Natsuko disappointed. Kazuo felt sorry for his sister, she was trying so hard. “Natsuko, just try another time, don’t be sad. You tried your utmost and you are a good firebender for your age!” tried Kazuo. “Thanks” said Natsuko’s soft voice. She seemed to feel better. “Plus, the move comes in very handy if you want to distract someone, did you invent the move?” asked father Soji happily. “Uham, I saw uncle doing some moves and joined two separate moves into one” replied Natsuko with pride. “I’m very, very proud of both of you. I can’t believe how much I missed!” added father Soji while he hugged his young daughter. Kazuo was so happy. This time he knew for sure; everything is perfect.
(sort of filler, but I didn't want to rush this. I thank God for having enough time with school starting and all )
