The organization I'm receiving a penpal from arranges to have it so you get someone who can read and write, at least, in English. And my Spanish isn't really that terrible. I just don't feel like thinking ATM. XD

(No offense to you in any way by this)
But this shows just how lazy Americans really are. They go out looking for people who can speak english, instead of them trying to speak a different one. o.O

^What we did was write in Spanish and get a response in English. Maybe you could do something like that. (unless you just want to do english both ways)

I voted Italy more or less simply because I'm Italian.

Perhaps getting a penpal in South Korea might make that a little more complicated (considering writing in Korean is srs bzns you heard me, kyogoon), but you should perhaps ask the person you're writing to teach you how to write some things in their language and attempt to write in their language a little bit. Even if you screw up, they'll appreciate your attempt--just like you appreciate them for trying to write in English. ;D

Lol, Para... xD
But I don't think it'll be complicated, at least in South Korea, since they take knowing English really seriously these days. And then there are those in the International or foreign schools there where they have non-Korean teachers teach English. So quite a few can read and understand it, there's just the problem with pronunciation.

I actually know a few simple Korean characters from some of the kids at my school that are bilingual. Spain would really be my best bet for a foreign language practice type thing, but when compared to Korea.... -_-
My teacher could even help me with my notes back to someone in Spain; my teach once lived in South America!!! She's VERY fluent. And after a while, I'd eventually be able to write back without her help (which is the goal of a Spanish class anyway).
I dunno... Should I go with writing to Spain where I know the foreign language somewhat or go with an English-speaking South Korean? I'd be willing to write in Spanish. Writing in Spanish is my strong point, followed by reading and then speaking. I think it'd be fun. ^^

Hmmm.... I could always get a second penpal in the future, I guess.
My choice right now is Spain.

Ah, random moment: Korean isn't that hard to read, especially when compared to Japanese (stupid Kanji). It's just the words that are hard to learn.....
ANYWAYS. I think you should stick with Spain. I voted SK but Spain is better, since you could actually use the Spanish language more often around here than Korean. well usually...depending on where you live.
You could also do Philippines...but it's kinda culturally the same...KINDA. They teach in English only at the schools, so no language barrier would be present.

No language barrier would be kind of boring now that I think about it.... Besides, I need to apply my Spanish somewhere besides Texas. XD Actually, Spanish comes in handy in OK, too. A lot of portions of our big cities are becoming all-Spanish now (like signs and stuff in Spanish instead of English).

Lol, the only time I've used spanish is when the room with the ice machine was locked and the only janitor there spoke only spanish. But yeah, go for Spain since a lot of their festivals and superstitions are interesting.
