"Spam" board, in a way...

Now, I've been thinking about this for a month or two now. Through a bit of discussion with some friends, I'm really in the mind set that this could be extremely beneficial.


What Are You Listening To, Name Something Good About the Above Poster, The Harem, Ji's, Battle of the Sexes, The Family Thread...All of these are a controversial issue that have been brought up before, but in a not so polite light. Rather than the suggestion to end these threads, I've thought of something that could basically fix spam worries, "stupid thread" worries, and just over all....worrying so that everybody is happy.

My proposal is that a "spam" board is created. Now, I'm not exactly the biggest fan of spam, but the more I think about it, the better of an idea it seems to be. It would not have post count, of course, but the above threads mentioned could be moved here. Post quality would no longer be an issue, which has been the main worry ever since these threads became a problem.

Going more in depth, this "spam" board would ideally have forum games as a sub board. Probably TAG as well, since it basically has the same purpose.

This would not only clean out the OGB of "useless" threads, but create an environment where people can post what they may, act a little silly, etc...Without upping their post count so ridiculously that you wonder if they deserve this increase in posts.

The only modding it would require would really be to make sure that people are being respectful to one another.

Many will ask, "Will this board take away activity to the OGB?"

Really, I don't think it will. People should be able to have intelligent discussion that isn't Avatar related.

I support this idea fully, and you've defined your points well.

The only issue is the promotion of terribly useless spam. So this would have to be moderated well.

Agreed (again, lulz). This is an excellent idea, and I agree with it 100%. It would solve the spam issues in a way, because the members in favor of having the various threads would be able to continue their discussion, and those who are against the idea of numerous threads would be pleased to know they are contained in a single board.

Horyo - Perhaps we could have multiple specs on this board if the idea is executed?

I can understand that, Dennis, and that's why I cast the idea aside at first. But really---It's supporting an outlet to spam rather than spam going toward post count and being considered quality posting.

Indeed, Spam Board sounds a bit mean...Hence the quotation marks. It's what it is in essence, though.

I actually think this is a great idea. Some post counts are becoming ridiculously high, and this might solve some of the controversy with threads in the OGB. But let's not call it a "Spam board," something different. xD

And there should be a few spec. mods in charge of that board to prevent useless spam.

Exactly, Kyo. I propose the name "Chat Board", it sounds nice enough.

And multiple specs would be beneficial. The specs are good at modding, so they should be able to catch the spam.

Exactly, pointless spam is not the point. But honestly, a lack of post count for some threads would not be terrible either.

I personally agree with the others that this is a very good idea, regardless of who came up with it xD So thank you, Shay for putting it up for consideration. I think the proposed board really will give members the area they want to hang out but also the no postcount ensures that people aren't posting there simply for postcount's sake. I have no objections to the creation of such a board as long as there are some ground rules established and some people modding that board to ensure things don't get out of hand

Agreed, Empy. The rules for such a board would be a bit more lax, sure, but it'd take a bit of work to see if it would succeed. Topics in the threads wouldn't be such an issue as if people decided it was okay to flood the board with so much useless spam that nobody could continue with any discussion in the thread. Double posting rules would probably have to apply still as well.

They wouldn't be. The purpose of the board is to enjoy youself with conversational threads, not provide a way to be the top poster.
