Does Ozai love Zuko?
I'm gonna have to respond with a big fat no. Sorry. =(

There's a chance that he does in a twisted way.... I can imagine that if Ozai whined in a 'WHY MEE' way, as Zuko used to do on the frequent, that people might actually see him in a sadder light. His version of love and the accepted/usual version of gesturing affection may be polar opposites.
You never actually know because in some sick way, he might adore his son and daughter but Azula managed to earn his respect while Zuko was more of a let down...
I think, in a way, Ozai really does love his son but has the stubbornness to believe that the way he treats him is the *better* way for his growth.

^^The man was going to kill his son in cold blood when he was like 8 or 9 yrs old, and felt no remorse for even thinking about doing it. He didn't fight what he was told, he just left and planned how, until momma found out! You call this love?!! No amount of disappointment in a child allow a parent who loves thier child to even consider killing them, even IF it were an order! If there had been some sort of argument or or disbelief of the demand, maybe I would say he cared, a little. But as we saw in DOBS, he didn't even bat an eye at the thought. There was not one ounce of remorse for thinking it, and he admitted with at smile that he was gonna do it!!!!
OZAI did NOT love Zuko. That scene pretty much said it all to me. If by some chance at the end, he admits that he cares for Zuko, I will be even more disappointed than if Zuko and Mai become a couple again! And that's disappointing to think about!

Ozai has his own definition of love. I think at one time he did care for his son (and Azula for that matter), but he has become so power hungry and cold-hearted, he threw away all of his feelings. What's left of Ozai is nothing short of a monster.
In DOBS, I did sense that he had a little remorse when he told Zuko that his punishment was to murder him, but at that point he was willing to do anything to obtain power. I also sense that maybe Ozai wanted his own father's love because it wouldn't be outrageous to say Azulon had his favorite in Iroh.
I wouldn't be surprised if Ozai said that he actually respects his son once he is defeated. (Of course, I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't.)

For Ozai it is ask not what I can do for you but what you can do for me. I don't think he really knows what the meaning of love is. Perhaps he never has. Zuko Alone showed him standing beside the pond seemingly grieved but the way he spoke of Ursa in DOBS gave the impression that he could care less about her. She was just a tool like everything and everyone else in his life.

But now, I'm not so certain. It could be that he sounded apathetic of Ursa in "DoBS" in order to get under his son's skin (opportunistic like Azula), but I really don't know. I'll probably need Ursa's side of the story but it seems like Ozai is creeping towards "jerk father" from "tough father."

Yeah, he basically killed the human side of himself. The only thing he cares about now is power. Which is why he respects Azula so much, however I wonder how he currently feels about Azula, considering he wasn't pleased about her little lie.

Personally, I'm not even sure if Ozai likes Azula *that* much. For all we know, he's probably planning on throwing a few bolts at her the moment she fails. It's kinda disappointing really. I expected the head villain to be a little more than a 2D bad guy, personality-wise. e.g. "WHY is Ozai like this?" I could still be wrong, but after what whimper "the darkest day in FN history" turned out to be, I probably shouldn't be holding my breath.

I see Ozai as the man Zuko could have become. Had Zuko continue to deny everything Iroh was telling him and gave in to his father's demands, Zuko would have definitely become as cold-hearted as Ozai is now. Sometimes I wonder if the biggest reason Ozai hates Zuko, is because he sees a little of himself in him. The part that he killed inside of his own self. I could be wrong though.

Well...Zuko could have become Ozai if not for his mother and uncle. I mean from an early age we saw him as a smiley little boy who loved his mother, in contrast to Azula who throws loaves of bread at turtle-ducks and cares nothing for her family. I think, because of the compassion shown to Zuko by Ursa and Iroh, he never had a chance of becoming what Ozai is. Not even when he was on the Fire Nation's side did he have the capicity to commit acts like Ozai and Azula could. And as far as Ozai seeing himself in Zuko...I think it's because when he looks at Zuko he is looking at his own face (Zuko and Ozai are like twins, minus the scar) and views him as a failure through his eyes. So, he is seeing himself as failure via Zuko and so he hates Zuko for degrading him like that.

I dotn think Ozia loves Zuko at all, and even if he did, he definatly doesnt show it. He's clearly always favored Azula. he was second born, and so is she. Maybe he's taking revenge upon his father through Zuko, that sounds weird, but it's possible. He probably didnt like teh way he was always the reject simply becouse he was second. But now he's turning the tables. He's just kina strange, you never really know much about Ozai
