^Or they could have passed on their traits by marrying outside their nations.
If there were Airbenders, there'd need to be an ample supply as to avoid inbreeding and weird results. So it could be that they have passed on their genes to those who will grow to be spiritually atuned with air. Thus new airbenders?
It's essentially the same thing as Aang marrying Katara, only it's wider and would be more numerous.

I definitely think it is part of Aang's destiny to rebuild the Air Temples, and why wouldn't his children (or at least some of them) be air benders? For balance to truly be restored, there must be air benders in the world as well. it's gotta happen somehow.

It should be fairly easy for Aang to restore the Airbenders. I mean, hello? What girl isn't going to pass up a chance to have the Avatar's child? XD I'm just sayin'. It makes sense.

During the finale, Aang bent "the energy inside" Ozai to take away his firebending. I theorize that Aang can and will use this power to grant to non-benders the ability to airbend. Possibly starting with Teo and the other Northern Air Temple glider-users. The creators of the show have stated that although Aang is the last air nomad, he need not strictly be the last airbender; his children might possess airbending. Spiritbending provides a convenient and satisfying way for the writers to have Aang to restore airbenders back into the world, without having to wait for him to father lots of children. One wacky corollary theory I thought of is this: Aang took away Ozai's firebending, but in the process inadvertently gave him airbending. Ozai doesn't know how to use airbending... yet. But he can return as a villain! I do not think of this as a likely theory, just a fun one. Thoughts? I don't think Aang would have inadvertantly given Ozai airbending, since the lion-turtle said that in order to spiritbend, your spirit had to be unbendable. I think that means that Aang would be able to take from Ozai, but Ozai wouldn't get anything from Aang. In my mind, Aang pwns Ozai. lol As for airbenders coming back, I don't think that spirit bending would be necessary in every case. I get the feeling Teo could be an airbender if he learned it. Also it doesn't have to be a genetic thing. Katara's mom and dad couldn't waterbend but she could.

There is some GREAT discussion here! Great ideas and thoughts.
Here's a twist on the 'children of air nomads' idea, and it's based in history.
In 1948, Israel became a nation again, after centuries of not being a nation. In the following years, Jewish people from all over the world began going back to Israel, which would naturally follow. But there were some people who went to Israel who did NOT have a Jewish heritage-- they simply said they "knew (they) were a child of Israel" and went there to live. There were A LOT of them. Weirder yet, they were from numerous nations-- Russia, Poland, United States, and had no previous contact with each other. Something inside them said "you're one of them - go!" and they went.
So what if something similar happened in the 4N world? Certain people just somehow "knowing" they're descendants of air nomads, and go back to the temples?
PROBLEMS WITH THE IDEA: 1) It presumes that the air nomads intermarried with the other nations... which is not a HUGE stretch... but if it happened many generations ago there could be "airbender gene" in dozens, if not hundreds, even if it only happened once in a while.
2) It presumes there's an "airbender" gene. I'm still fuzzy on the whole thing that determines a bender from a non-bender. You're sort of 'born' with it... or at least 'born' with the disposition that you could become one. Of course that opens up a pandora's box of 'If a fire nation child is born in the earth kingdom, will he become a firebender or an earthbender?'
3) It presumes that airbending can be 'Re-learned' somehow... ====================================
ANOTHER IDEA: Rather than pockets of air nomads around... there's a hidden population of SKY BISON. If the air nomads learned airbending from the sky bison, arguably if there's sky bison around, people can re-learn from them.
PROBLEM: There's no dang sky bison around except Appa (that we know of, anyway).

Since it is for sure that there are no more airbenders other then Aang, we can assumed that there are flying bisons.
Appa needs to reproduce!!!

Wait. If the Airbenders ceased to exist (or at least the Air Nomads), that would mean that the Avatar Cycle would be broken. I don't think that the A:TLA universe can survive without its Avatar- the Avatar is the peacemaker between all four (or three) nations, and without the Avatar, the world would end up in another war (and ultimately destroying itself). If Aang had Airbender children, though, one of his descendants would have to be the Avatar (which sounds unheard of, even though Zuko was related to Roku).
Maybe Katara will just be extremely fertile. (Hey, it sounds likely.)

Great restoring the airbenders is harder then I thought it will be.
It's possible to reproduce but then there's the inbreeding problem.
Also how can they still hold the art of airbending for the next avatar?

What Aang has to restore is the culture of the the Air Nomads. To me, it makes sense that Airbenders are not borne of any particular nation but that those with the talent were found and trained by the Air Nomads. This would explain why all Air Nomads were Airbenders. No mention is made of Aang's family before he entered the Air Temple. Zuko commented that he didnt suppose that Aang knew about fathers having been raised by monks. Although that may just have been biased ignorance, there hasnt been any thing in the show indicating the contrary.
