what does kate ward know about avatar anyways? (j/k, I'm not a raging fanboy, but I am a fanboy!!)
I can't really rate the show yet. But from what it seems, the reviewer doesn't really know the in's and out's of the show the avid or even casual fans do. I feel as though maybe the reviewer was just given assignment, and she was like "crap, I guess I'll do it." I mean who gives a finale a "B" for a show because it also has "a supercute flying lemur." lame
Seriously I think two hours seems just about right, it isn't as simple as defeat the evil lord, there's so much more it to that. We need to learn about O.W.L., Ursa, the DBS prisoners. So I'm hoping she's wrong about the thin plot.
I'm sadden to hear about the cheesy lines, hope there arent many, then again what is cheesy to her might be funny to us. I remember many times when Sokka had some cheesy lines, that I died laughing.
Anyways, to that, I say we watch the finale and make our own decision.....how respectable is the reviewer? I don't know.....
edit: thanks for the review jakeman3025, karma for you.

I think your right aobut her not knowing her ins and outs of Avatar. That line she calls "cheesy" isn't so cheesy in the context it's used. It's one thing I cannot wait to see personally. I'm sure they'll be cheesy lines, and if they come from Sokka I'll probably pee myself. Even Toph makes me laugh and she's said some cheesy things. It's worth checking out?! For us die hard fans, it's what we've been waiting for. And no I don't think the plot is a bit thin to be spread out over 2 hrs. There is alot of stuff that needs to be dealt with, alot of things need to be tied up before the big battle.
For once I wish they would let a fan right a review that thousands of people would read.

I wouldnt worry about this reveiw, a show like Avatar isnt going to get a perfect rating from a mainstream article. Plus the the reviewer probably knows nothing of avatar thus the 'thin plot' theres been enough plot for 57 episodes this is about the action!
They also get that the lines are supposed to be cheesy and that makes it funny and cute (I remember people complaining about the 'Meat' line in TBR but that was supposed to be funny)
Plus Avatar needs cheesy lines to counter balance the epic awesomeness otherwise your Tv would explode from over exposure to awesome.

Season 3 has been pretty heavy on the cheez, actually. And the reviewer's complaint that the plot is a little too thin to be spread across two hours is actually something I've been worrying about for a while. But all of that aside, a "B" is a perfectly reasonable grade - a desirable one, even, for an animated feature.

Everything you said! *karma* The Boiling Rock was too thin to spread over two episodes, so I'm not at all surprised they stretched a four episode arc too thin. 'B' is a good grade. And regardless of whether she knows the 'ins and outs' the show should entertain her. It seems like it did, but not in an 'A' level way. I don't see this review as unfair or insulting at all.

I think a more detailed and comprehensive review might have brought her point out just a bit better. It was too short for us to decide whether it was fair or insulting.

I dont think that the review was unfair or insulting but when it comes to a series finale, I would rather read a review by someone who has followed the series regardless of whether they liked it or not. This applies to any series. Yesterday, I watched the first few episodes of the first season which I havent done in a while. There was enough cheese for a Packer's fan. Thats always been part of the charm. One reason Im glad the dvds will be coming out so soon after the screening is to read Jeffery Harris's dvd reviews on IGN. He's a confirmed Avatard, in my book.

Hmm, if I recall correctly, the same magazine gave Day of Black Sun a B-. At least we know that they think the series finale will be better.
And look on the bright side: on the picture, the caption reads FIRED UP: Avatar kicks anime butt. Except the reviewer refers to Avatar as an "award winning anime series" (though the "award winning" part sounds good, eh?) If they can grade Avatar with a B based on Momo's super-cuteness, anyone else can realize how good this show truly is.

If the plot is too thin for 2 hours, then that just means there are many more character moments, just like in Boiling Rock (IMHO).

I actually got that issue of Entertainment Weekly in the mail yesterday (I have a subscription XDD), and I even read it to my close friend. We both agree that the rating was perfectly fair; all of the article's points were on the money. Entertainment Weekly is exceptionally generous when reviewing movies, shows, etc. And mind you, I doubt that Kate Ward is an avid Avatar viewer. It takes a real fan to truly appreciate the end to a great series.

Sounds about right to me...
B is an above average grade...good but not great...epic but flawed...
I'm sure there'll be a few of us who'll give it less than that once we've seen it.

A rating of B, seems fair. I mean, sure a rating of A would be better, but atleast it isn't a C, or lower. Though since I haven't seen the episodes yet, I can't really decide if it was fair, right on the mark, or whatever. Probably have to wait until it comes out to truly see how the rating was.
As far as the cheey lines, I don't mind them, and I usually laugh at them when they are from Avatar. I'm kinda looking forward to hearing that line (probably directed at Zuko), and I want to see what brought on that reply, alonng with (if it is directed at Zuko) his face.

it's a pretty good rating in my eyes... for an animated series, it's normally like a C... of course, we'll all know the final rating we give it when we see it, so don't be so dependent on one person's reviews..
