That's a bit of a cheep shot saying Iroh isn't wise/intelligent because he has his silly/funny moments. He doesn't have to be serious all the time. Just look at Dumbledore he's had his stupid/funny moments and no one says any thing about it. It just makes their character more likable.
Also we always say that Iroh is mostly 'wisdom smart' but he must be a good tactition and planner if he was the general of the firenation army

I say Bumi is the most intelligent, rather than going with conventional methods, he sticks to the impossibly insane.
Then again, Sokka is unconventional to.

^ Bumi is an interesting candidate but a lot of his percieved wisdom is untested and assumed. Azula Flames, for the record I didnt make any cheap shots at Iroh's wisdom. In fact, I made it clear from my first post on the matter. Basic intelligence isnt the be all and end all and I dont propose to detract from Sokka's tactical genius or Iroh's wisdom but if its only basic intelligence we are measuring, I think Toph tops both of them. Sokka:Heh! "Toph tops!" Thats a good-- There is a distinction between wisdom and intelligence. Iroh himself said the key to good advice (like good tea) is proper aging. Wisdom is gained by experience and harder earned than mere intelligence which in some cases youre just born with. Again, Im not saying that Iroh is an idiot. He is one of my favourite characters after all and I do hope they make a spinoff show about him. I just think he's better known for the wisdom that he has picked up from years of experience.

Yea not enough is known about Bumi, and I still say that I agree with DnD's definition of the difference between wisdon and intelligence

^Could you post the DnD definitions for both those terms here as comparison with the standard english definitions? I dont think everyone here plays DnD so a frame of reference may be useful.

Sorry I never read the whole thread and from zen's post I thought someone implied that.. please accept my humblest apology, 1 internet cookie and *karma*
We can't forget the mechanist he does come up with all thise inventions (with a little help from Sokka) On a side note whats to stop him escaping prison, I'm sure he could think of a plan or build something.

^ Thanks for the cookie and the karma. I wasnt offended really and just wanted to set the record straight. I read Zen's post too and I do agree with certain parts of it while I was grateful for the mulligan option for others.
I admit that Iroh has been the perfect foil for Zuko who was always so hell bent on capturing the Avatar and I deeply enjoyed the way he exasperated Zuko with his interest and enjoyment of so many everyday things in life.
*karmas back*

^Could you post the DnD definitions for both those terms here as comparison with the standard english definitions? I dont think everyone here plays DnD so a frame of reference may be useful. Dictionary.comWisdom1. the quality or state of being wise; knowledge of what is true or right coupled with just judgment as to action; sagacity, discernment, or insight. 2. scholarly knowledge or learning: the wisdom of the schools. 3. wise sayings or teachings; precepts. 4. a wise act or saying. Intelligence1. capacity for learning, reasoning, understanding, and similar forms of mental activity; aptitude in grasping truths, relationships, facts, meanings, etc. 2. manifestation of a high mental capacity: He writes with intelligence and wit. 3. the faculty of understanding. 4. knowledge of an event, circumstance, etc., received or imparted; news; information. 5. the gathering or distribution of information, esp. secret information. d20SRD.comWisdomWisdom describes a character’s willpower, common sense, perception, and intuition. While Intelligence represents one’s ability to analyze information, Wisdom represents being in tune with and aware of one’s surroundings. Wisdom is the most important ability for clerics and druids, and it is also important for paladins and rangers. If you want your character to have acute senses, put a high score in Wisdom. Every creature has a Wisdom score. IntelligenceIntelligence determines how well your character learns and reasons. This ability is important for wizards because it affects how many spells they can cast, how hard their spells are to resist, and how powerful their spells can be. It’s also important for any character who wants to have a wide assortment of skills.
