It's nice that you're accepting of criticism, but it's not like Shay went "HURR HURR THIS ONE SUCKS SO HARD." She politely and constructively criticized your icons, you can't expect to be pampered and be told some gratuitous and arbitrary "nice thing" to make you feel better about yourself and your work.

"nice use of color... or nice crop" and then the reason why Shay didn't like it or what could have been improved on it. i'm really not trying to make a big deal about this, because that is what Shay thought about each individual icon and i respect her criticism whole-heartedly.

Well, you seem to have made a big deal about it. How about we drop this, and you just work on the criticism that you got. Whether or not the criticism was good or not, the fact is that Shay feels that you should improve.

Yes, i prefer that we just drop it.

aanglover, I am going to try and be polite as possible about it.
Crits are what make people's stuff better, and it makes for better discussion on icons. I am correct so far, no?
Compliments are to be given on things that the person commenting things are deserving, correct again?
Lying about your opinion is not only wrong, but it hurts the receiving end even more than constructive crits in the long run, still correct, right?
Each and every contest you have entered you have complained about your icons not getting votes and dropped not so subtle hints on what your icons are in the process. Need I remind you that icontests are anonymous and such hints are against the rules?
Thus, by dropping hints and defying your anonymity in these contests to seek pity votes is fully against the rules and should not be tolerated, in my opinion.
If you would rather have people go "Ohhhh it's amazing votevotevotevote" right away, you need to get your priorities straight. These contests are meant to be fun and a learning experience for all of us. "Compliments" have no place for constructive crits if the poster does not feel it is necessary, while rudeness in constructive crits is not tolerated. My crits were fully following all forms of etiquette.
In the mean time, I suggest you quit dropping hints about your icons. Contest rules= icons are anonymous for this very reason. Pity votes and votes because people are your friends defeats the purpose.

Pity votes and votes because people are your friends defeats the purpose. all that you have said is right Shay, i do complain about how i never win these icon contests, because i try to put a lot of my creativity into them and don't get anything back in return not even a simple..."good job for trying". i know it does seem a bit selfish, seeing as everyone who posts their icons on here try as hard, if not harder than me. i don't expect everyone to think the icons i make are fabulous or good even and i do understand that this is just fun for the fandom, and that's what i love about it. and i also don't expect anyone to lie to make someone feel better, but rather, their honest opinion, but it would be nice to hear the positives and negatives about it. i'm sorry if i'm coming off as an attention getting brat, but this is just how i feel. the only thing i don't understand about what you said is dropping hints on which icons are mine..... i can't recall on any occasion of breaking this rule. can you please explain? and if i have i'm sorry and i will stop immediately. i really feel like we should just drop this conversation, considering it's taking up most of the thread and i feel like the bad guy here.

There's a contest rule that the creator of the entries must remain anonymous. Seeing that you've said something about Shay's critical post, because she didn't say anything positive, makes it obvious which icon is yours. So that entry isn't anonymous anymore, which breaks the rule. Edit: Agreed. This discussion has gotten out of hand and it needs to be dropped. Let's return to the icontest itself.

I'll let it slip this time. But you need to remember that a submitter's icons are supposed to anonymous. So in the future, please don't hint or tell which ones are yours.
As for the criticism, I think that people should criticize others icons. It helps spark discussion about icons and the such. Although it may not always be best, everyone needs to remember that criticism is just a person's personal opinion, and everyone is entitled to their own.

Errrr, however, critisism =/= flaming, and since it's an anonymous contest, it's not a personal attack. Once again I'm sorry to offend, but thanks to those who complimented my post. -Shay

I like number 8, 18, and 21. They're all interesting and caught my eye first... but I voted for 21. The coloring was very cool, and the crop is not what most people would have chosen... I like that.

There were a lot to look at at once and 8 really stood out from the rest so I voted for it. ^_^

I like both 18 and 21, and it was a little hard to decide. I ended up voting for 18, because I absolutely love the realistic look to it. I love how the red markings stand out as well. The color in the background also helps to make the statue stand out, and I think it's beautiful.

Aaghh, wow, I really have a thing for 17 - but I'm going to have to go with 18 instead. It's very well-balanced, and though I do like 21, 18 gets it for me just cause. =)

I love the coloring and cropping in #21, so I voted for that one. Although the cropping in #14 and the overall placement in #16 are really nice too. The coloring in #3, #6, and #8 are pretty too though.
