When the gAang decides to attack him one at a time, yeah...
If they attacked Azula one at a time too she could break through their attacks.
What happens when they team up on him? He can't form a fire shield like Azula did.
He's not this invicible beast, he just has a fearsome method of attack that probably was too much shock and awe for the gAang to handle without being used to it.
And, it makes more sense that we have one man who's using firebending in a very unique way than to just introduce a firebender who's amazingly better than Azula. In that case, where's the limit? The gAang needs a challenge, and they needed something fresh. Another firebending joe wouldn't cut it.
What about this supposed Puppet Master? He's supposed to have a scary and unique power too. They're just keeping things fresh. There's only so many ways to coreograph a bender on bender fight and still keep things interesting without just increasing everyones power level nonstop until it gets rediculous.
Rather, they're delving into the deeper secrets of bending.
What effect will he have on the gAang? We've yet to see. That new UK commercial showed what looked to be another encounter between them.

OK I'll admit we still haven't seen too much of this guy but from what I've seen so far I don't like. By the looks of things, he doesn't have any contribution to the character or to their growth. His eye beams seem too cheap as it surpasses what essentially 3 masters throwing elements at him. The guy like his mind beams seems to be a one shot character, which in the long run will be doing nothing for the story. I'm not saying he can't be a challenge for GAang but at least mix up the moves and stradegy once in a while. I think a cunning villian taking on GAang or at least a group of skilled warriors would be better suited than a guy who shoots mind beams that apparently destroys everything. Not even Azula, Princess of the Fire Nation, someone who has a background depth, causes profound changes in growth in development in characters around her couldn't handle GAang all by herself. Azula is one of the world's most powerful elitest royal firebenders in the Avatar world but somehow gets trumped by some random no name backwater comes out of nowhere mercenary? Agreed he seemed almost terminater-ish. But I'm pretty sure he will be a short term viilan as we have a few more to see before the end of the season. While he looked cool he didn't seemed like what I would expect from an assassin as assassins usually do there work queitly and casuing as little distburance as possiable. I also agree that I don't see what this will do for the gaang expect give them something to do in while they wait for the invasion.

Yeah, he almost seems inhuman. Which I like. Much more intimidating than a villain who stands around taunting and jeering at the hero.
This guy's not doing this for the look on their face or anything...he's just there to kill them.

When i heard of the combustion man, i prayed he was another standard fire bender. Actually i was hoping the new villian would be a waterbender for a change, or better yet, do something new. (It looks like we'll get a waterbender villian soon) Theres enough normal firebending villians on this show. I am thankful for his awsome power. It makes him unique. Not just that, but his character is unique. We needed a character like him. Sure he's a firebender, but he's a unique firebender, one with a unique power thats adds variety to the show. So what if he's really powerful. The gang always go's up against enemies who are stronger then them at first, like azula; and it makes the show interesting.

So his arm and leg are completely metal? How did they manage do that in the Avatar world, how would they get his arm and leg actually move? And how did he get metal limbs attached to him without bleeding to death first? I suppose if Toph could get close enough she could bend the metal limbs or since Sokka's sword is also able to cut through regular metal he could cut his arm and leg off. But it all depends on how close they are able to get. The closer they attack from the easier it is to actually get to him, because from a long range you don't stand a chance against Combustion Man's brain laser.

But Spiritwolf, if Sokka's sword can cut CM's metal arm and leg, wouldn't it be easier just to cut CM's fleshy arm and leg? >_>
As for his prosthetics, they remind me of a certain anime, with a certain blond kid with a metal arm and leg...
I personally feel that CM seems too flat as a character. They could have just replaced him with a mobile cannon and it would have achieved a similar effect. I hope this guy talks soon, and not feel like the Avastaff is trying to save money on voice actors...

Imagine if CM appeared in "The Puppet Master". Now that would be scary... imagine Katara in control of him. Okay, so I think if the Gaang strategized, they'd be able to come up with a coordinated attack. I'm impressed that they were able to do as well as they could, considering they were woken from sleep, and by such a freaky attack. And as I've commented before on the Saturday-morning-cartooniness of his character design... I shall refrain from doing that here. (But if Piandao = Sifu Kisu ...then CM = Gianarlo Volpe.)

no,but that gives me an idea, maybe the meteorite sword has a property that could stop the heat blast from his eye, everyone keeps theorizing about how the sword might have special powers, or could block firebending.

Maybe Combustion Man's real name is...Gigi. HAHAHA. Sorry, wanted a very girly name for him. XD Yeah, Sokka's sword will probably defend him, since it came out of space! Maybe if they blind fold him, he can't concentrate anymore and so cannot see
