@lt. Dan: The Republican party is generally viewed to have begun it's neoconservative shift with Barry Goldwater, and largely completed it with Reagan, elected in 1980 against Carter. I see now how you chose your screen name. Anyway, I think this still skims over my point which was shoring up what Kaneda was initially referring to, so there must be nothing debatable about it. Carry on...

Obama's tax plan doesn't affect taxes being filed as small businesses, just individuals. Thus a small business wouldn't get a tax hike.

You make a valid point sir. The only thing I'd note is that such an income ($250,000) doesn't go nearly as far in the areas hardest hit by the recession (Long Island particularly). On another, friendlier note, I thought both candidates' speeches at the Smith dinner were hilarious. For whatever reason, Bill Maher had to be partisan about it, as did Rush Limbaugh. I do find though, that Maher was worse about it. But that might just be because I think Bill Maher is a fool, and that Rush Limbaugh is a great talk show host, regardless of political leanings. Yay for rambling.

Well, Obama's campaign got another boost from Colin Powell's endorsement.

I just voted for John McCain and I have a horrible taste in my mouth. >_< I would have voted 3rd party if I didn't think my vote was needed, but it doesn't look like it's going to matter much at this point. My dad's small business has been floundering and I think it's going under if Obama gets elected- they can't handle too many more taxes.

I'm going to college. I had to apply for an advanced ballot so I could vote for my home county. That's how it goes for most college students, or so I'm told. >>

Pleaase use this calculator: taxcut.barackobama.com/

Regardless of his tax cuts (which won't happen in reality, because Obama will want to expand social programs which will require more money), my father's small business WILL be taxed all to hell, regardless of individual tax cuts.

Grandi, you know my sight isn't THAT bad. I just hadn't read the entire topic. I don't have time for that anymore. If you do, then I feel just delighted for you, but I'd prefer not to fail my mid-terms. ^_^ They're a real pain, you know? In any case, I WASN'T aware of that, but it still doesn't matter. Other taxes will still rise: for example, are you going to tell me that taxes on wood products aren't going to rise? That the importing cost of machinery that is superior to that of our domestic machinery will still be cheap enough to allow my dad to buy them? That OSHA won't come out with another godawful list of regulations that break his back with safety 'updates'? That he will still be able to afford this business? And my favorite: That when my grandfather retires, that my dad will somehow come up with around $250,000 in inheritance taxes to keep the family business? Can you tell me that? If you can, that's lovely. If not, then- well. *shrug*

^^ You do realise that none of those points are due to Obama's proposed policies or are likely to change under MacCain's proposed policies, right? Unless your dad's business (as actually is- lets not do a Joe the Plumber here) is really likely to be taxed more under Obama's proposed policies, the argument doesnt apply. Anyway, Im glad you voted even if I dont quite agree with your vote.

My problem with Obama's tax policy is while he says tax breaks for anyone who makes less than $250,000 a year, he, or Biden, says somewhere else $200,000 or even $150,000. ;;
