I've always liked the books I had to read for summer reading, but this time it looks like I'll dislike the books. I have to read The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver. I haven't read were I left off since last Thursday(I think it was before Thursday ). Also, I need to read The House On Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros.

Academic books? Excellent! I just got my list today. We have to pick one environmental book from a list given and one from our grade's list. The environmental ones are: Blueback Feed Ishmael Life as we knew it Animal, vegetable, miracle: a year of food life braving home: dispatches from the underwater town, the laba-side inn, and other extreme locales coal: a human history cod: a biography of the fish that changed the world grayson an inconvenient truth: the planetary emergency of global warming and what we can do about it the path: a one-mile walk through the universe six degrees: our future on a hotter planet Geesh, why are all the titles so long?! So has anyone read any of these or heard about them? I think I might read Braving Home - it's about a guy who travels around a lot. Feel free to post your own summer reading here, though I'm sure you'd all rather forget it. DX Of all of thoes, I highly recomend Ishmael... Its not the best, but its a fiction, about a talking ape who gives univirsal wisdom... The rest are mostly political... Climate change is happening, but the issue is economic on a mass scale, and reading those books wont help you. espically as most of them are one sided... So ya, I would go with Ishmael of those... look it up. This summerer, I am reading god against the gods, a history of the world, and Machiavelli's The PrinceThe last two are tough reads, but I highly recomend god against the gods. EDIT: Wiki description of Ismael en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ishmael_%28novel%29PS: I havent actually read it myself yet, but it seems to be one of thoes books that will change your way of thinking if you have an open mind, and lessons which can be applied to more then just enviromental stuff.

Well I've never had a summer reading list so I guess I'm lucky there, but out of all of your choices I would read An inconvenient truth, if it's been turned into a movie the book must not be THAT bad. I have to read things like: Emma Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre You have those books to read? I love Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre! Although I'm a fan of Jane Austen's, Emma was the least favorite book I read of hers, I just couldn't get into it. Did you know that the 2 girls who wrote Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre were sisters?

Yes I did. Charlotte and Emily Bronte.
I'm less than a hundred pages from the end of Wuthering Heights. It's beautiful. I love British classics (A Tale of Two Cities and Pride and Prejudice are 2 of my favorites)
Does anyone recommend any others? I thought about Sense and Sensibility and that Tolstoy book, Anna something-or-other. And Lady Chatterly's Lover sounded interesting just by the title.

If anyone wants a simple read for the summer, I suggest Bridge to Terabithia.

I have a whole chapter to do for Pre-cal too. Which is like 100 pages, so that will be great!

We didn't have "Move Up Day" this year, so none of the teachers could give homework, except for normal summer reading and the AP classes called for meetings. My Statistics teacher didn't give any homework, so that was cool. ^_^

I only have my summer reading homework. And I'm an aspiring novelist and can read a hundred pages an hour so that's not a problem.
I'll probably work on my books.
THAT's some good summer reading.

This summer I had to read two books. One was the one which EVERY SINGLE PERSON at my high school (not only all the students, but also the teachers principal, lunch ladies, janitors, etc.) had to read: Rocket Boys. It was torture. The writing style was fairly concise, so it moved quickly, but even so, it was unbelievably boring.
The second book I had to read (only the people in Honors English had to read a second book) could be chosen from a list of 30 or so. I picked Interview with the Vampire. That one I enjoyed a lot more than Rocket Boys, to say the least.
