Toph doesn't get any screen time anyway. Katara, on the other hand, gets alot of screen time, so it's easier for her to get annoying. I'm not a big fan of Toph, neither. She got plenty of screen time in Season 2, and Katara should get more screen time since she's been in the first episode. Her importance to the story outweighs Toph's. Just becuase she's been there since episode 1 doesn't mean she should get more screen time than any one on the show. Look at poor Sokka, he's been there since episode 1 as well and he only got 2 freakin episodes out of the whole show. I say Katara needs to be kept in the back for a while. She's had way too much spotlight this season, she is not the title character either, Aang is. Just becuase she's his love intrest should not give her any right to how much spotlight there is, I hate when shows do that, give love intrests more spotlight than other characters. Any ways yes Katara is my least favorite character right now, the way she was in the reccent episode, my gosh she was annoying.

I'd have to say Mai--and it has nothing to do with shipping, amazingly! XD She irks me on a personal level--I've seen people speculate and theorize up and down about this, but as a big sister myself, nothing excuses allowing your infant sibling to be in danger. I've had people attempt to explain it as trying to avoid getting in bigger trouble with Azula by defying her, ala Ty Lee--but there's nothing to solidly base this on. Her expressions are too vague to tell, but if you put it in context with the rest of her debut episode and what we've seen of her since then...well, she doesn't exactly come off as particularly concerned about anyone other than herself. She didn't make any moves to snag her brother away from the Gaang, she didn't have any problems throwing sharp pointy objects at the folks who were actually holding her brother. No, you can't argue her accuracy as being that awesome--she doesn't know her enemies at this point, she can't gauge their ability to keep steady when being targeted. She certainly didn't hang around to make sure her brother got home ok or anything like that--No, I'm sorry, there's just nothing there to say she gave a dang either way. And so far, nothing in the show says otherwise. Another thing that gets me is that she whines all the time about how bored she is--yet when given the opportunity to do something about it, she does nothing. It's one thing to be trapped in a situation that frustrates you--it's another when you take no initiative to change your situation. I could not STAND to be around this type of person in real life, so I'm sure as hell not gonna take to it in animated form. No amount of clever one-liners is going to change that, as one-liners do not a personality make. A smaller irk I have with her is really more to do with the decision of the creators--it really sucks to have her specialty on a kid's show. She will never be able to do critical damage with her abilities, so it makes her rather useless. Well, except when fighting someone as dumb as Katara. Sorry, Kat, but if someone spike your sleeves to a tree, FORGET YOUR GARB AND JUST RIP YOURSELF OUT OF IT. XD I wanted to like Mai--I wanted to see a calm, cool, collected female weapons expert on the show. Instead, I got a lazy, self-absorbed, boring little girl whose only change in expression is when she's making out with her boy-toy obsession from her childhood days, or when Azula is scaring the bejeezus out of some poor man. Now, I'm not holding her to a higher standard, I have my beef with all the characters on the show--but Mai just seems to have more for me to be unsettled with. Granted, Azula is quite evil--but she's GOOD at it. She's manipulative, meticulous, ambitious and she REVELS in it--I can't help but begrudgingly admire that about her--she managed to take a city within a few weeks whereas her predecessors could not manage it in the last century! I had my doubts about a teenage girl replacing the level of badass evil that Zhao had--but Azula completely levelled those doubts. Mai has just been her lazy lackey. She's still in the middle as far as deciding whether or not she's good or evil--but so far, they've not given me much to like about her, and plenty to dislike. The best option I can see for her (if she survives the series) is if she joins up with Jun in the bounty-hunting business. Plenty of excitement for her without being tied down by the rules and regulations of any particular nation. Wow. I voted for Azula, but geez, you summed up EXACTLY the way I feel about Mai. Maybe I should've voted for her instead. Thank you for taking the time for type all this out.

1. Mai and all her "I'm bored" glory. inuyatta stated the main reasons. I mean does Ty Lee and Azula really need her around? That is a resounding no.
Every since I saw "Balto of the Watertribe," I haven't been a great fan of Aang. I don't hate him, but I cannot get the way he acted in that episode out of my mind.

Wow...I so thought I was going to get flamed for not liking Mai...but thanks guys, glad my uber-long post served a purpose.
The other character I have a hard time liking as of right now is Katara--I defended her from being labeled a sue in season 2--and now that I've seen the painted lady, it's getting SO. dang. HARD.
Seriously, I'm tired of it--now her short-tempered behavior, her recklessness and impulsiveness got way out of hand in that episode, and not only did she get away with it--no, she got to throw a tantrum when she was called out on it by her brother (and rightly so) and then was praised by everyone. She could have seriously put them all in real danger and blown their cover and she gets no reprimand for it.
It's one thing to have flaws--it's another to be praised for it without any backlash. In addition to that, now Katara can do jesus-no-jutsu by walking on water and healing with special lighting effects! I'm starting to think the reason they don't make a Katara figure yet is because they can't fashion a doll to have all those flashy features! XD
I swear if Katara has one more tantrum this season and no one gives her an ounce of grief for it, I will have lost all interest in her. -_-

Nah, you made a valid point and gave good reasons to explain your dislike for Mai. I agree, she was much more entertaining and likable as a child. But I love her character design.

^^ Oh my. I love Haru. I guess since you hate him there's just more for me! I chose Mai. Not because of my Zutara support (I actually pine away for the long dead notion of Katara/Haru), but because I dislike the type of person Mai is. Intensely dislike that kind of person. Hide in the bathroom until they go away dislike that kind of person. It stinks that I have to have that type of person on my TV screen in order to see my favorite show. Yuk. inuyatta: I just read your post and it's nice to see that I'm not the only one who thinks Mai is a dud. And I agree with what you said about The Painted Lady. So much. That whole episode was completely lacking in logic. From what you mentioned about her putting everyone at risk to Sokka not actually being interested in destroying the factory manufacturing materials for the Fire Nation's war effort!, to the idea that you can clean a body of water just by getting the gunk out. I really don't think stopping the factory from producing (and putting many people from some other village out of work) will stop the residual effects of the pollution. It was shallow and illogical. And yes, Katara was irritating to an incredible degree...and I'm actually a big fan of hers. Enough. I chose Mai for the poll. She is icky.

Zuko. I understand why so many fans like him and I do really enjoy watching his tale of redemption but, I'm not too fond of him as a stand alone character. Zuko's personality type can get a little annoying at times, I think. I will like him a lot more by the end of the show I'm sure. xD

ARRRGH Long Feng that stoopid bustart.

I hope Katara takes a backseat. I seriously want Toph to shine some. Has she had like over ten lines since the season started? I don't think Katara will get away with this. I think both she and Aang(The headband) has ruined Sokka's plan. The Fire Nation can not overlook those strange occurences. If they do, it would be such a glaring plot hole. This is the fire nation here... Someone in that city will probably tell what happened to the royal family and Aang's new little girl friends significant other will probably rat him out. I know that won't know it's the Avatar, but a powerful female waterbender, pretending to be a spirit, points to Katara and therefore points to Aang. Let me take a wild guess and say that if Katara's actions does ruin Sokka's plan, she want be blamed for it. I still don't like the way she treated her Dad. That was just wrong. He could've just as easily been mad at her for opting to travel with Aang instead of coming to see him in Balto of the Water Tribe.

I swear if Katara has one more tantrum this season and no one gives her an ounce of grief for it, I will have lost all interest in her. -_- Well,I think her big boo-hoo in The Awakening was a little too long.If it had been more built up it would've been better. So yes,Katara's my least favorite. She's a Mary Sue with pretty much no flaws. Also, her voice actress Mae Whitman voiced Rose on American Dragon:Jake long who is more respectable IMO because she has and isn't ashamed of some of her flaws. She's only about part Mary Sue.Even if Katara doesn't talk about her flaws, she's still able to slid by with them and no one says anything.Especially Aang. I mean,to Aang Katara is a goodess and is all whimpery, pouty if she gets onto him.Whereas he nailed it to Toph in The Chase.I mean, Katara was just as mouthy in that episode.I still laugh to this day at what Toph said about Katara being a Princess. Aint it the truth.

You know what annoys me is if you say something bad about a fan-favorite Character you might as well put on armor.
So what if I think Katara's skills grow to rapidly...not asking you to agree. -_-
