but that is his fault though. He could've had more people who cared for him if he wasn't such a little......Zuko. I have no sympathy for him Aang on the other hand, doesn't shun everyone who shows care for him However, Zuko had such a traumatic childhood. Granted he had Ursa, Iroh, and Lu-Ten growing up but they all kind of disappeared while he was still pretty young. Lu-Ten died in battle, Ursa dissapeared without explanation (possible explanition was to protect him from his granfather and father) , and Iroh was gone for a period of time because of his spiritual journey. (We don't know how long he was gone, but from interviews by the creators, we can guess he was gone for a good while.) So there was a period of time where Zuko was basically on his own. By the time Iroh came back to the Fire Nation, I can see Zuko's heart hardened a little. (That was the only way he would have survived.) Eventually, he will realize his mistakes but if you ask me, he had a rougher life than Aang. (and I'm not minimizing the destruction of Aang's people, I'm just saying on a personal level as far as having the support a young person should have, Zuko's had it worse.)

I never bought that because mostly all of the kids on the show had just as bad a childhood as Zuko did (Aang's whole race being wiped out among other things and didn't Katara and Sokka watch their mother get killed?) and yet there not anything like Zuko. That really just shows how weak minded he his. P.S. I'm still not getting this sudden Katara hate

P.S. I'm still not getting this sudden Katara hate This sudden surge in dislike for her probably stems from the wacky pace of the episodes. She suddenly shows dislike for her father, her attitude may have been reasonable but it was so sudden for us to see while watching the episode for the first time. The second episode was simple enough, she FINALLY was the one seeing Aang in a new light instead of the other way around. The third one turned her into a hott, kick-butt feminist role model who, even though did some questionable things, was not punished and was instead praised. You can only make a character grow for so long before their constant goodness starts to irritate you.

*small voice*
...Yue...
I dunno. She wasn't a BAD character, I just didn't especially care for her. And the fact she was like 'Ooh, lurv Sokka' then 'NO!' then 'Ooh, lurv Sokka' then 'NO!'...I get she was conflicted, but she had the poor guy on strings! Stop messin' with Sokka!
The great thing about Avatar, IMO, is that none of the characters are truly hatable to me. They all having some redeeming quality that sets them apart from the rest, and a foible (or seven...Zuko...) that brings them down.
I'm sad to see Katara hate. She's not all THAT bad! Seriously...she and Zuko take a lot of bashing from the fandom...

However, none of the gAang has faced some of the challenges he faced growing up. He had those who wished for his ultimate failure. (Azula and even Zhao) He had those who ultimately thought he was a failure. (Ozai and Azulon.) The gAang never faced that, they never had to prove their worth to their family members. Sometimes I wonder if Zuko would have made a better avatar than Aang because Zuko is a person who immediately accepts his duty no matter what. (Even if it he accepts it somewhat blindly, he still would accept it.)

Where is all this Ty Lee hate coming from? Ty Lee is the most original character I have ever seen. Plus she's got the coolest, and one of the most lethal abilities.
Mai gets on my nerves. 1) I sort of dislike emo people; 2) Her specialty isn't all that great. I mean, she's just not all that helpful in battle. Plus her hair looks stupid. And now she's permanantly ruined Zuko!!

Wow.I don't know how u guys can dislike Katara. She's like one of the main characters of the show. Her being is one of the many reason Aang makes his decision.
As for who my least favorite character, I say it has to be Mai.She personality is very depressing and boring. No wonder she hooked up with Zuko.

I'd have to say Mai--and it has nothing to do with shipping, amazingly! XD She irks me on a personal level--I've seen people speculate and theorize up and down about this, but as a big sister myself, nothing excuses allowing your infant sibling to be in danger. I've had people attempt to explain it as trying to avoid getting in bigger trouble with Azula by defying her, ala Ty Lee--but there's nothing to solidly base this on. Her expressions are too vague to tell, but if you put it in context with the rest of her debut episode and what we've seen of her since then...well, she doesn't exactly come off as particularly concerned about anyone other than herself. She didn't make any moves to snag her brother away from the Gaang, she didn't have any problems throwing sharp pointy objects at the folks who were actually holding her brother. No, you can't argue her accuracy as being that awesome--she doesn't know her enemies at this point, she can't gauge their ability to keep steady when being targeted. She certainly didn't hang around to make sure her brother got home ok or anything like that--No, I'm sorry, there's just nothing there to say she gave a dang either way. And so far, nothing in the show says otherwise. Another thing that gets me is that she whines all the time about how bored she is--yet when given the opportunity to do something about it, she does nothing. It's one thing to be trapped in a situation that frustrates you--it's another when you take no initiative to change your situation. I could not STAND to be around this type of person in real life, so I'm sure as hell not gonna take to it in animated form. No amount of clever one-liners is going to change that, as one-liners do not a personality make. A smaller irk I have with her is really more to do with the decision of the creators--it really sucks to have her specialty on a kid's show. She will never be able to do critical damage with her abilities, so it makes her rather useless. Well, except when fighting someone as dumb as Katara. Sorry, Kat, but if someone spike your sleeves to a tree, FORGET YOUR GARB AND JUST RIP YOURSELF OUT OF IT. XD I wanted to like Mai--I wanted to see a calm, cool, collected female weapons expert on the show. Instead, I got a lazy, self-absorbed, boring little girl whose only change in expression is when she's making out with her boy-toy obsession from her childhood days, or when Azula is scaring the bejeezus out of some poor man. Now, I'm not holding her to a higher standard, I have my beef with all the characters on the show--but Mai just seems to have more for me to be unsettled with. Granted, Azula is quite evil--but she's GOOD at it. She's manipulative, meticulous, ambitious and she REVELS in it--I can't help but begrudgingly admire that about her--she managed to take a city within a few weeks whereas her predecessors could not manage it in the last century! I had my doubts about a teenage girl replacing the level of badass evil that Zhao had--but Azula completely levelled those doubts. Mai has just been her lazy lackey. She's still in the middle as far as deciding whether or not she's good or evil--but so far, they've not given me much to like about her, and plenty to dislike. The best option I can see for her (if she survives the series) is if she joins up with Jun in the bounty-hunting business. Plenty of excitement for her without being tied down by the rules and regulations of any particular nation.

Maybe we should stop comparing Zuko, Aang and other's misery, unless you're mistaking sympathy with pity. I mean Aang could have not lost his people, I'd still like; Zuko could have been pampered, I'd still like him. Some people are mad at Zuko, as if they haven't get his character before. I mean, he's been whiny and angsty since Avatar State, why are you surprised now ? Through the last season, many had said "there is, Zuko touched the bottom, now he'll wake up and join the Gaang" and it didn't happen, I understand how some of them now can be frustrated but IMO you gave yourself a bad idea of who Zuko is. Zuko stole horse Zuko stole food Zuko cried on mountain Zuko pitied himself When Zuko says "we", we have to listen "me" (something he's got in common with Azula). Of course Zuko has good side, he saved a village, he didn't stole food from a pregnant woman and he wants everyone he cared about to like him (from Iroh to Azula). Zuko is the kind of character you like despite themselves (Iroh still does) but he's not the bad guy that will turn to the good side for the beauty of greatest good. Once you agree with that, he's a very interesting character to follow ;D . For that reason, he's far from my least favorite character even if he often annoyed me but I think it's gonna change soon or later. I'm one of the few people that were and still are against Zuko joining the Gaang until the very end and I thing Zuko having bad ideas was better than Zuko brooding and making bad tea (at least for tea). In CoD I think it's the best bad idea he ever got in that entire season. Now he's alone and there's no way-out anymore. Either he'll improve or he die. Now my least favorite character...I would pick Katara: too much goodness kills the goodness.

come on nad. from reading your fan fics, we know you hate Mai more. you just want someone to beat zuko on the hated meter. haven no interest is pretty neutral. but you wont even say "the M word, and in the road less traveled she seemed like a evil predator creature who just wanted zuko as a trophy.
