We all know good and well that I'm a crazy-go-nuts fan of Nobuhiro Watsuki, who created the almighty samurai series, Rurouni Kenshin. But I recently finally got into his second longest running series, Buso Renkin. I first read the first chapter preview in the last volume of RuroKen, and I thought it was pretty interesting and thought I'd check it out once the first volume was released. Due to my rare simple mindedness, I remembered that the last volume of RuroKen came out two years ago, so all of the volumes of Buso Renkin have been serialized since then. So now I'm collecting Buso Renkin (along with finishing RuroKen and my other fav. Shonen Jump titles) and I got waaaaaaaaay into it when I got a mini issue of Animerica that featured Buso Renkin in it, and I got the first box set (on sale) yesterday! As a hardcore RuroKen fan (and having faced the same disappoints that all RK fans know well enough), I'm awed at the animation and the change in Watsuki's style. I'm gonna try to talk about RK as little as possible if people post on this, but I have to say ONE thing: D@mn I wish Rurouni Kenshin was animated like this. So did anyone else take a gander at this series or have I inspired anybody to take a gander at it?

hmm i only saw the anime and haven't read the manga. Personally, the end of the anime was pretty disappointing, I have no idea if the manga was close to the anime or not.

Well, I haven't seen the end yet, or read to the last volume. All I know is that from reading the first two volumes of the manga and watching the episodes that coordinate with them, they changed a lot of stuff around. They did the same with Rurouni Kenshin as well. The anime ending to Rurouni Kenshin was pretty disappointing as well (for obvious reasons among the fandom), but the manga ending was far more better. I hope that this isn't a trend with Watsuki.
I'll just have to wait and see how it goes.

I've never read or seen Buso Renkin but if it's made by Nobuhiro Watsuki than I need to check it out plus you make it sound really good.

I found unlike Kenshin the hero in Buso Renkin is pretty generic. He's the typical "wants to help everyone, good natured but has a burning hot blood when fighting evil" type.
Nothing wrong with that of course but it doesn't make it a "insta classic".

Yeah the downside with the characters is that you can see that Watsuki modeled them off of RK characters.
Then again, since I was dissappointed at the ending of the RK animation, I kinda just imagine the BR characters as RK characters, as if Watsuki animated the RK series during this time. : P

Not as epic as Rurouni Kenshin, but I still love the series. I have up to 8 I think with the manga, and I stopped watching the anime on Youtube until I can get more.
Yeah, characters are definitely based off of RuroKen characters. I loved how he said he "subconsciously" designed the brother and sister off the wife Kenshin married and her brother.
One thing I also noticed was the lack of characters based off of Marvel comic book characters, as opposed to the many in RuroKen (Gambit for Kurogasa, Kujiranami off Apocalypse, etc.)

Don't forget Saito as the Punisher and Hiko as Spawn!
^*Favorite characters* =D
Yeah there was that too. But then if you think about it, since Watsuki based RK characters off of Marvel stuff, and then based BR characters off of RK stuff, then technically, BR characters are based off of Marvel stuff!
It all fits! =D

Oh god, how could I forget about Saito he's my favorite. Aoshi too, and his design's off Gambit. When's the anime coming to the US? I heard it was.

Rurouni Kenshin or Buso Renkin? Either way, they're both available. (Those Toonami bastards took RK off their block a few years back though, right in the middle of the Kyoto Arc. )

I was talking about Buso Renkin.
Haha, I have the first two seasons. Refuse to get the third cuz it was all filler before they cancelled.
I remember the end of the Kyoto Arc on Toonami. That was very cool, his blood evaporating...

^In that case, yes. The first box set is available. Dunno when the second is gonna be released. I got the entire Kenshin saga on DVD, but, I only watch the one-shot fillers. Those d@mn fillers got Kenshin cancelled. Wish I had the Memorial Boxset though. But it'll probaby cost me an arm and a leg once/if I actually find it. I think I'm gonna rekindle the Kenshin thread soon.

Who knows? Maybe Viz will re-release the series on DVD as Shonen Jump Video.
And maybe a Jinchuu Arc will be included.....
Anyway, I heard that Buso Renkin Boxset II will be released sometime in October, so we got a long way to go...
And after seeing it in English and on DVD, I don't want to watch it on YouTube again, so I'll just wait. (It's just a thing with me. Once I have some part of a series on DVD, I don't watch it on YouTube for free. I must support the creators!)
