I've only watched part one so far, but has anyone else mentioned how much Mai's uncle looked like a Sun Warrior? I probably won't watch 2 for a few hours yet, but her uncle's complete lack of resemblance to Mai or her parents and his obvious Sun Warrior lineage are the main things that stick out to me from part one. That and Sokka and Zuko should have their own rescue buddy show. I was pretty tired. Maybe I'd better watch it again.

I'm really intrigued by Chit Sang. Seems to be a jolly fellow, though not so bright. He seems to be a competent Firebender too. Hope creators shed more light to him.

Saying the gondola fight was bad because it was slow is saying the Zuko v Zhao agni kai was bad. Fo shame.

Flabortast: He can be added to the useless trio of Teo, Haru and The Duke to form a useless quartet. I'm sorry but those guys have got to get used and soon. I just watched the second half BTW. I was a bit disappointed. I hate rocket!Azula. Hate it with a passion. Azula should have more finesse than to become a rocket. The Mai/Zuko cell scene was not as 'cool' as we were led to believe. Pretty short if you ask me. Mai helping Zuko get away, as others have said, was blindingly obvious -- did anybody not know by the end of 301 this was going to happen even though we didn't know the specifics? I'm surprised she didn't say 'I'm saving the jerk who dumped me. How cliche.' I would have loved that moment so much more if she'd said that. And it would have been in character too. I thought Zuko was stopping on the ridge at the end to ponder Mai's sacrifice for a moment. Nope! Just wonderin' how Azula got there and how he could jack her ride. Couldn't he spare one moment to think 'OMG. Azula's there. She saw what Mai did! Poor Mai!' Kinda like Sokka never giving any thought to what might have happened to Suki until Azula brought her up in DoBS. *shaking head* boys! High point: Suki. Never a fan of hers or of Sukka. Now I'm on the bandwagon. She's dreamy. Low point: The shortness of the gondola fight and rocket!Azula. Bleh.

I liked the episodes. I agree with Kaneda - they really could have done it in a half hour, spending less time on prison antics. But all in all, not bad. Great Sokka and Zuko bonding (I've wanted to see those two work together for the longest time), Hakoda's hot as ever , and Suki kicks all kinds of butt. LOVED the scene where they were discussing what to do with the warden, and Suki had already climbed up the top of the tower and disarmed him. Loved the exhausted Hakoda panting, and saying, "That's SOME girl!" And, Zutarian that I am, the Maiko in this episode finally worked for me on some level. I'm still not a fan of the ship (mainly because of reasons stated before, the prior development really bugged me) - but the interactions this episode were what they should have been all season long. Mai's act of defiance against Azula and Ty Lee's rescue was fantastic. Mai has never looked prettier than when she got that shocked expression on her face as Ty Lee dove in to disarm Azula. That emotion - that true emotion - on Mai's face was great to see. I don't know where things with she and Zuko will go next - it's quite clear they have a big philosophical chasm to bridge when it comes to the Fire Nation. Mai still thinks they're in the right, Zuko clearly doesn't, and Mai *does* still see him as a traitor - not only to the FN, but to her as well. I saw Mai rescuing Zuko as sort of her goodbye to him - in a way, I almost see her now as Zuko's Yue. It might not be coincidence that she and Yue were mentioned in the same conversation. And in the end, both she and Yue made the same choice - sacrificing themselves for others they cared about. I'm with Mahatista on Rocket Azula, though. I know she's powerful, but for realz? Now she can fly? Next thing you know she'll be Waterbending to make her lightning more conductive. Seeing her rocket across the ground is one thing. But flying 50 feet in the air? It's a bit much.

I immediately thought that, if The Beach could be useful for anything, it was to show the power Ty Lee has over men. I can see her getting the guards to drop them off someplace and let them escape. Azula said she never wanted to see them again. Uh, is that too much fanfic?

The creators said Chit Sang still has more background, possibly linking to the killer of Katara's mom

The creators said Chit Sang still has more background, possibly linking to the killer of Katara's mom Ooooh. Thanks for the tidbit. That would make sense. He knows where the killer is or something and that's what sends the lovers ninjas off on their mission.

I found it interesting that the Warden would rather die then someone escape from his prison.
From what I gathered from Chit Sang. He's not so bright, but he's got a heart of gold and is pretty competent Firebender. Linking him up to Katara's mom's killer would be cool.
I like how Sokka's smarts were displayed once again.

I expect he might face death either way, so he'd rather go out on his own terms!

I found it interesting that the Warden would rather die then someone escape from his prison. And what an awful death. Boiling. Urgh. But what awaited him was Azula so I guess it was kind of no choice at all. @lu: We're on the same wavelength today!
