Uhm This thread is to save Toph not rip her apart We aren't ripping her apart, we're protesting the total abandonment she has suffered by the creators. My complaining may sound like I'm ridiculing Toph but I am not. She's my favorite character and I am protesting her being treated like an accessory instead of as a character. ... C***, I don't know! Uh... we start by spreading awareness of how much Toph and her fans are suffering by this poor treatment of her character. After that... someone else may have to pitch an idea but I think spreading awareness of this may be enough to reach the ears of the Avatar creators so they may know from fans of their neglect of Toph.

I know. So far we have gotten so few lines from her. She's just kinda, there. In season two she was really involved and now she doesn't really stand alone. As firework said she's just comenting on whats happening, not really emotionaly involved.

They built her up in the Blind Bandit to be much more than what she is. Seriously when they introduced her I expected a lot more

We all know that Toph is the outsider of the gaang, she has very little to no social skills so its hard for the creators to let her talk during some episodes; especially since her role as comic relief coincides with Sokka except Toph's style is more mocking whereas his is more dumb and physical. But after "The Serpent's Pass" Toph has faded into the background. The original four's roles in every episode completely eclipse the new comer's and leaves her with a few lines here and there. Sure, Toph still does bend and says funny lines, but she doesn't DO anything like, say, Katara does; Katara emotionally supports Aang and interacts with her brother. Toph doesn't interact with anyone except the occasional tease towards Sokka. And even when she does interact with others on an emotional level it always exposes her as a little girl with self image issues. Okay, nice to see Toph's weak side now and again but that's all we see. Let's look back to when Toph had her own role in an episode. That would be in "The Serpent's Pass" where Toph showed affection toward Sokka and she almost drowned. Yeah, last time she could actually exist on her own was in "The Serpent's Pass." Toph is not helpless, but she's always being paired off with Sokka or Katara rather than being given her own little sub-story in an episode like the two always get. In "Tales of Ba Sing Se," she was paired with Katara (it was to save time but-) and Toph was the one that was portrayed as weak and vulnerable. When was the last time that happened to Katara? "The Headband" was about Aang, Katara got to dance with Aang and be jealous, and Sokka got too be a goof, but Toph did NOTHING! She just... commented! Toph is now just the sidekick, not even a partner. Save the Blind Bandit! I totally beg the differ. Toph isn't designed to have as major a role as Katara--she was created to teach Aang earthbending. Honestly, for a "kwik fix" character, Toph is nicely developed. She doesn't need to be complicated because that would distract from the overall story....it has enough going on already. Not only that, but Toph does have issues; they're just not as drastic as everyone elses'. Toph having her own episode would be redundant at this point--character development can be a subplot in another episode. Toph's involvement in the group ( the lack of it, for that matter ) is the result of her own personality. Would a socially repressed, cynical, twelve year old girl speak openly in social activity? No; that in itself, is distinct characterization.

She just says one liners and occasionally bends; how is that really like her? I'm not saying Toph should start being chummy and what not so she can be seen more, I'm saying the we should see her just being her. Being unintentionally rude and being a slob like those few episodes after her debut. She used to be blunt and dirty, now she... well you know what I mean with how she is treated now.

There hasn't been enough time; it's only been the first two episodes of the new seasons--Toph'll get plenty of time to expand before her climax ( when she ties everything up with her parents ). Indubitably, Toph will be used because she already has conflict....her famial crisis, and her insecurities, so, she'll be put on the spotlight eventually, we'll just have to wait.

I don't think we meant this season, but even the end of last season. She was just there. At least for me it started at the end of last season and carried to this one.
Oh and don't forget about Xin Fu and Master Yu. I wonder if they would go to the Fire Nation to get her...

Well it could be the voice actor for toph was doing other voices...or like I'm noticing, Toph is getting more lines as episodes go on.

Jessie Flower (Toph's voice actor) also does the voice of Chaca for the Emperor's New Groove show... but I don't think the VA having other characters to voice is the reason to minimize the role of the character. Look at Dante Basco and Mae Whitman, they voice Zuko/Jake Long and Katara/Rose but their roles weren't diminished.

I love the little blind girl too. and I'm verry dissapointed that the writers don't give her charactor more screentime. The Blind Bandit is everyones eppy because its about the only eppy that is focused on Toph. a simple solution to me anyways is to give our favorite Earthbender the screentime and lines she deserves.
or what we could do is simply twist the creators arms and make them give Toph her own TV series, that be sweet!

I don't recall them doing any earthbending sparring to tell who's better OHH MY GOD!! IF I HEAR THAT AGAIN I'LL GO INSANE!! Why would she tie everything up with her evil parents?

Seeing her in the swamp made me think she's gunna die. This is another reason why i think she'll die, becuase theres no point in keeping her alive if she's just joing to say 3 needless lines a episode. She's not a core member of the aang gang.
This is also exactly why avatar should be a hour show. It's to rushed. We simply do not have time for great character interaction. Avatar would have to suffer a lack of action sceens to have time for nearly every character to get a get a good role each episode, and thats not a price I'm willing to pay. The fighting on avatar is to awsome to sacrafice to character interaction. Still if this was a hour show, that would be awsome, and this thread probobly wouldn't exist.
