Ugh, as soon as I found out that the movie is dubbed, I lost interest. Even if they did an excellent job matching lip movements, it bothers me. Why couldn't they just sub it? So that I and everyone else can hear the Japanese voices? These are live people and someone elses voice is going to come from there lips. No, Sorry. I'll watch it online, if I have to, since they'll probably not have the movie subbed on the DVD. Happens all the time.

Aww....I don't live anywhere San Jose. =( And sadly, I am still in school the 2oth and 21st. Or am I? *cough cough* lol I'll be sure to check and see if there are any showings near me. *crosses fingers* I hope so! What I meant with the San Jose thing was that it was a larger town so that is why there were 2 theaters showing it. So, in case you live in small town, that is probably the reason there are not theaters showing it. Besides, I already posted the national theater list for all theaters showing it. Here is the list again. www.fathomevents.com/news/default.aspx?newsid=122

The VIZ pictures website has also posted the trailer and all relevant info related to the movie. The also say that the dub of the second movie is in works. I think it is going to be interesting to see all the dubbed anime VA doing the voice overs for the live-action movie. Only a few more days until Wednesday May 21. deathnotefilms.com/trailers.php

It's coming to one of the theatres near me, but I'm not planning on going, for two reasons.
1. It's dubbed. 2. I have nobody that will take me because I know, right now, that my parents would not appreciate Death Note.
Oh well.

It would be so weird watching something where the lip movements don't match the voice. I remember watching Advent Children in Japanese because the English version DID NOT MATCH.

^ If you watched the trailer you can see that when Light's dad Soichiro Yagami speaking where the lip movements were fine so the dub should worked out fine. Also, Advent Children is a different situation than the Death Note movie because it deals with animated characters meaning the difference you noticed was not in the voices matching lip movements but you just liking japanese VA better. Besides, the Death Note movie has the English dub VA of the Death Note anime so it should work out good. The reason I prefer it is that I rather watch the movie instead of having to constantly read subtitles. It would just be akward having to read them at a theater.
Anyways, tommorow is my last day of finals and after that I am heading over to the mall hours before the movie so I can get good seats.

I just saw the movie...
The dubbing was terrible, but I got used to it after awhile. As long as you don't pay too much attention to the actual lip movements, it should be fine.
But yeah. It was awesome, especially the atmosphere in the theater. There were cosplayers and everything (everyone cheered when a Ryuk came in), and it was fun to be around that many Death Note fans. Lots of funny comments and screaming and stuff.
I got there like... two hours early and the movie was almost sold out, though. I'm really glad I got tickets, so worth the ten bucks.
When's the second one coming the the US?

^ As a whole, I loved the movie and I got my sister who doesn't really like anime into Death Note by convincing her to go. Bagpipe, I agree the dubbing was terrible but only at the beginning and when Misa first entered. Everyone just laughed when Light talked and his lips were not moving. After about 15 minutes it got pretty good. It was awesome that the anime voice actors did the dubbing for the movie. So, I bought my tickets online and got there an hour early to only find like 5 people. After about 30 minutes the seats were packed. There was a diverse group of people there. A lot of cosplaying girls, some adults, even some "surfer looking" white dudes. The best line of the entire movie was when Ryuk said: "Light, I think you got yourself in deep philoprogenitiveness!" What was also hilarious was when the Kira case "group" entered the hotel L was at and there happened to be some white people staying at the hotel. A good amount of people yelled, "OMG, white people!!!" Crazy girls: There was a girl with an awesome Ryuk costume sitting in front of me. She made it herself it was pretty da** good. Anyways, her and her two friends did some crazy stuff. The one dressed as L went to the front of the theater and said Kira, I will find you. She pointed to her friend dressed as Kira. It was hilarious. What made it even funnier was there was like 6 other people dressed as Light. @bagpipe turtle At the fathom site and the link I posted on the previou page, it says that the dubbing of the second movie has already started and will be released soon. I think it might be possible that it will be out by December or early 2009 (9/16/08). Also, the dvd of this movie will be coming out September 16,2008 for $16.99. You can pre-order it from Amazon at this link. www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0017SVH5Q/animenewsnetw-20I just went to the viz movie site for the Death Note movie and the it asks if you enjoyed the movie and thanks us for being part of the nation-wide release. Under it, it says "Stay tuned here! Also, if you want us to fill you in on DN2 and DVD information, sign up below and be the first to find out!" www.deathnotefilms.com/home.php
