Rules: -Proper spelling/grammar/punctuation/capitalization. -Characters form the intro page (All Around, Uni-Characters) Characters from the OC-Accepted Board Please no Canon Character, unless it actually makes sense. Other than that, have fun.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This occurs after the events in the Si Wong desert, where Aang and co. struggled with Won Shi Tong, and lost possession of Appa. This storyline is separate (obviously) but still exists in conjunction to the main story. The initial point where the story takes place are the areas right before the Ferry to Ba Sing Se. Unfortunately, these areas are heavily concentrated in Fire Nation Troops.
The main objective is to form a tiny, wandering, rebel group in the Earth Kingdom against the Fire Nation. To aid the Avatar who is fighting the big battles, this group shall fight for the weaker, and defend the innocent, as well as developing and maturing as they cope with the ravaged life of war.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A crisp breeze lazed in the air, moving back and forth and back and forth. The warm sun beamed down calm rays and blanketed his shirtless body. Stretched out on the warm grass near a calm stream, Horyo yawned, while keeping his eyes shut. I really should practice. He thought to himself, but a second thought, one of having to get up and leave his resting spot, shoved aside the first.
"But then I wouldn't be able to enjoy the nice warm delicacies of nature." He spoke again, yawning a greater breath as he rolled onto his left side. After a few minutes of readjusting his body, until he felt perfectly comfortable, Horyo fell into a light slumber. Small snores escaped his breath every now-and-then.
It had been approximately six months since he had left the North Pole to pursue his own dreams: seeing the world, experiencing a newfound freedom devoid of chores and mundane tasks. It had been six months of rest and traveling. He was somewhere in the Earth Kingdom, though even if he should wake up, he had no interest in scanning the map for his location. The past few days nursed an air of randomness, going whichever way seemed fit. And usually, the ways led to some nice oasis.
He wasn't going to break his lucky streak by mapping out his plans, oh no. He had all the time in the world.
Hours later, Horyo left the spot, and carried along his necessities: two water-skin bags one for drinking, the other for waterbending (custom made), a pack of fruits and foreign herbs, a bladed white Machette tied to a thick wolf-club, a few garments into which he would change, and finally a map.
"I might have to stock up on provisions." Said he with little concern in his breath. Horyo began walking south, following the stream. "If there is water, then there will be people."

Fen Li looked out of the window of the small room at the inn she was currently staying at. The south side of the small village was laid out in front of her, and beyond that was a grassy stretch of a meadow, dotted with small herds of ostrich horses, many clustered near the freshwater stream that winded through the woods to the north of the village and ended in a small pond about 200 or so yards south of the village.
Fen turned back from the window and started to pack her few belongings. She had been in the village of YuLen for almost a week and a half now, and her newfound love for traveling in the countryside was urging her to move onward. She quickly pulled on her dress and fixed her hair before grabbing her small bundle of medicine supplies and her back that carried some food and a bit of money along with an extra skirt or two.
After heading downstairs and paying the owner of the inn, Fen made for the south gate that the farmers often used when herd their ostrich horses. The small dirt road wound through the grass before ending at the main road that traveled along the stream. On impulse, Fen turned northward, enjoying the sun on her skin. It had been raining the past few days, and she was careful to avoid the puddles because her boots were beginning to suffer from the constant exposure to water. She made a mental note to find another pair the next time she stopped.

Horyo continued on, and passed by a dingy, rotten sign which pointed both north and south. To the North it pointed to a small town called Wei Wao, and the south had its location crossed out -- scratched out, to be accurate.
The sign was truthful, since Wei Wao was a large farming town north from here; Horyo had spent a week there, at least before Earth Kingdom Soldiers evacuated it, due to the possibility of Fire Nation troops storming in.
Horyo decided to continue south, to this "unknown" village. The air carried a light cool mist, and the clouds enveloped the golden orb. Looking around, he noticed deep puddles and muddy holes in the earth. Either the rain made its speedy approach North, or the clouds were remnants of a a storm having dispersed not long ago. The murky depths of the puddles concealed the red-stained dirt of the ground, and Horyo had made no discoveries of this, after all, who could truly suspect blood stains on a walking pathway?
Small trickles of rain began to leap from the sky towards the land. The first few struck dampened earth, and slowly more began to saturate the area. The puddles became connected, and his clothes became drenched as the sky poured tears down onto the earth, cleansing it of all its sins.
Horyo put up his hands and used his waterbending to shield himself from the elements. Strong gusts of winds scattered the chaotic rain about. The road ahead was distorted by the specs of water, and now the water level rose to his ankles.
Where was the stream? Where was the road? So many fearful thoughts ran through his mind, as he tried to press on and find shelter. But among the crashing rain, vision and hearing were no longer dependable.

Fen had walked perhaps a mile from the village when dark clouds started to form overhead. After about another half mile, fat rain drops began to fall. As the rain began pouring, Fen cursed mildly under her breath when she realized she had nothing to shield her from getting soaked. She had to find shelter fast; already her boots were beginning to stick in the mud and the area was beginning to flood.
As she tried to peer through the curtain of water she thought she could make out a clump of trees in the distance. At leat, she thought it was a clump of trees. Fen started to run towards what she assumed was shelter. However, before she got there she completely crashed into someone else walking along the road. Losing her balance, she fell backward into the muddy water.

No vision, no hearing, no warmth.
The rain embittered him. This rain was oddly unnatural, however, since he had never experienced a storm so violent as this... even more odd, the wind was not as strong as it should have been with this kind of weather.
Horyo trampled through muddy ground, almost losing his balance at times; once, the muck gripped at his shoe, until he pulled out the water, freeing his boot. The stench of mud and earthworms made it no better for him.
His wet clothes clung to his wet body, the sleeves of his shirt dripped and let loose tiny streams. The extra water burdened him, since it weighed him down. Horyo began pulling out the water in his clothes and -- BAM!
Someone-something crashed right into him pushing out the water in his clothes and him to the ground. He fell with a hard thud and his faced planted in the mud. Horyo's abdomen suffered some pain, and his face hurt as he tried to rub off the plastered mud. Immediately, his mind snapped back to reality and his body shot up again, prepared to fight some dangerous enemy.

Fen sat back up, spitting out a bit of mud that she'd inhaled. Coughing, she stood up and wiped the water out of her eyes (as best she could anyways) and tried to see who-or what-it was that she had crashed into. It looked to be a young man, although in the pouring rain it was hard to tell.
"I think there's shelter over there!" she said, shouting to make herself heard over the rain. She gestured over towards the clump of trees she had been heading for earlier. "It may be a bit drier there!" Fen considered waiting for his answer, but as the rain was quickly saturating her clothes and flooding the ground, she decided to head over there as quickly as possible. And if he didn't follow, well that was his perogative.
She began to run towards the trees again, then stopped and turned, curious to see if he was coming.

Horyo saw the thing move away towards an area that he could not see. He considered using waterbending to cover himself (and a small area around him) to be able to see better.
But what if the thing were Fire Nation or some hungry breast? Then he would have been landing himself directly into a trap. He considered leaving, but from what he could tell she was under some trees -- the perfect place to spring a net.
Horyo's hand moved towards his dagger -- sheathed inside a protective leather casing -- and armed himself, but the sheath was gone! (Along with the dagger, obviously) Panicked he scanned the ground, but it was too muddy. Then he looked towards the trees. What if the creature took it? He would have to fight for one of his most prized possessions. And so, he positioned his brown water-skin, ready to use waterbending when necessary. The rain now pelted down on him, soaking his clothes immensely.
He approached slowly, not looking for a fight, but preparing for one. When he came close enough, he tried to put on a kind and amicable face.
"Hello, have you seen a dagger around here?" He spoke, expecting a grunt or growl.

Fen looked up at him. She was right, he was a young man. Her greenish brown eyes surveyed his face, and she thought that he didn't seem like a threat to her.
"Oh no. I don't carry weapons." She wiped some of the water out of her eyes. "Have you lost yours? You're probably going to have to wait until the rain stops. It'll be impossible to find it now."
She rooted through her bag and pulled out two handkerchiefs. She used one to wipe mud and water off her face, and then held the other one out to him. She figured a gesture of goodwill would show she meant no harm to him.

His hair continued to drip water, and brown slimy mud trailed and clung to his body, not to mention the frosty cold that nipped at his exposed hands and face. He took the soft white handkerchief from her, then began wiping off the water and mud. As difficult as it was, Horyo managed to wipe himself from the dirt, and clean the handkerchief.
Waterbending is pretty useful at times.
He then looked at the skies, which darkened as rain still flew down. Horyo sniffled a bit, from the cold, and the fear of the thing as a threat, no longer nibbled at him. Actually, the thing was a girl, and quite attractive too. Wiping away some sweat, which appeared even in the cool temperature of the trees, he folded his hands, a fist wrapped by his other hand and bowed. He figured a sign of respect would be proper, considering her kind gesture.
"My name is Horyo, and I am from the Northern Water Tribe. I am exploring the Earth Kingdom in order to find ways in which to directly fight the Fire Nation." His head bowed below his hand gestures, as he awaited an answer.

Fen quickly scrambled up, mentally scolding herself for forgetting her manners. She returned bow to him.
"I am Fen Li, formally of the city of Omashu." She paused. "Since Omashu has been overtaken by the Fire Nation, I am now traveling from town to town offering my healing services." She straightened back up and smiled at him.
"So you're a waterbender I see. That must be pretty useful." She took the handkerchief back from him and tucked it into her bag again, forgetting it would just get wet again. Rubbing her arms, Fen noticed a slight chill in the air, no doubt brought along with the heavy rain.
"Maybe we should start a fire or something." she said, glad that the trees were thick enough to keep the rain from coming through.

The rain had started while Sho was walking down the dangerously potholed road that led away from her small village. Tears were running down her face as large drops of water fell from the darkened sky and onto her head. Her normally dark brown hair was turned an even darker shade as she continued down the road despite the rain and the family she was leaving behind.
Family? She thought angrily, shaking the water from her eyes. I don't have a family now.
The bag hanging from her shoulder was packed to bursting with all of her possessions; the ones she could fit anyway. All the clothes she could carry, all the important scrolls that she had the audacity to steal, everything that had been her life was all in her bag now. It was all she had. She wiped her eyes with a soaked sleeve, bringing her back to reality. For the first time, she noticed that the puddles were joining together and forming a veritable swamp. Sho looked around and spotted some trees. Deciding that she would rather wait until the storm stopped and save her boots from being stolen by the muddy road, she proceeded slowly towards the thick overhanging branches.

"You're a healer?" He asked, slightly confused. The only healers Horyo ever knew were the ones in his village -- his mother namely. To her next comment, he almost spat out "Well you're a smart one." Horyo took the comment harshly: Of course waterbenders are useful! But what else does an uneducated Earth Kingdom Peasant know about the culture and life of the Water Tribes, that have existed one-hundred years of grueling war. The Earth Kingdom was lucky it had so great a population, otherwise they would have been finished off long ago. He thought while giving her a sharp stare.
But his anger abated when she suggested a fire. He chuckled silently to himself at the thought. A month ago, he had all the fire he wanted -- a firebending soldier provided him that, at least, until he learned how painful a rush of water could be. Regardless, she did have a point. If they were to survive this torrent, they might as well conserve heat; unfortunately, he had no wood with him, and the trees looked wet. Cutting them down would deprive them of shelter, but not gathering any wood would be foolish.
Horyo sneezed, and his nose began to run. Odd, he felt fine earlier, but now his head felt clouded and heavy, while his throat was itching to cough. "Ah-Choo!" He sneezed again, only this time more noticeably. But at that moment, he heard a sound of splashing as if someone moving through puddles. It might have been the sound of large globs of water falling into puddles, or it might be someone dangerous. Whichever the cause of the alien sound, Horyo reached to his hip for the blade, forgetting it had been missing.
"Argh." He grunted and assumed a waterbending position.

A sound ahead of her made Sho stop dead, even though the rain was now pounding a tattoo on her skull. Squinting her eyes through the drowning water, she could barely make out two figures standing under the protection of the leafy branches.
What are they doing out here? Sho wondered vaguely as another wave of water crashed down from the sky. After a moment, she decided that she didn't care who they were or what they were doing; if she didn't get out of the rain soon, she was going to catch a terrible cold. Moving slowly towards the hazy outlines, she wormed her way through the mud and under the stand of trees. Sho let out a content sigh and wrung the water from her long hair. Now that she was able to see clearly, she noticed that the two figures had turned out to be a man and a woman. Smiling slightly she beckoned with one hand to the rainstorm raging beside them.
"Nice day..." She said weakly, shying away from the man and his threatening stance.

Fen returned the man's stare, and responded with just a hint of coldness. "You waterbenders are not the only ones who can make a warrior fit to fight again." Then, "And I didn't mean to imply waterbenders aren't useful. I'm talking about those little things that help, you know like bending rain around you so you don't get wet, that sort of stuff."
Her voice warmed some though. "It's alright I suppose" she said, trying to regain her cheerful attitude. Negative energy benefited no one. "I guess it did sound rather rude."
With a sigh, Fen looked around at the wet trees, especially the fallen branches that lay soaked on the ground. "Maybe you could use your waterbending to dry some wood for us?" she asked.
Suddenly she heard something crashing through the puddles and Fen backed up a few steps, heart pounding. Oh she hoped whatever was making the noise was friendly. She hated fighting. However, the shape revealed itself to be a girl; thoroughly soaked like the rest of them. Fen relaxed, relieved it wasn't a threat.
Noticing the girl's hesistance to come near (thanks to the man and his threat of waterbending), Fen stepped forward and said, "You must be soaked. I didn't think there was anyone else traveling out here once the rain started." She smiled, hoping to show she meant no harm.

After the girl had run in, and he felt her not a threat, because women aren't very threatening unless they use their deadly charms. Horyo relaxed his stance and took the advice from the woman, Fen. He moved his arms slowly, and smoothly to force away the water near the ground. The branches were beginning to dry up, and he breathed in the wet air, which smelled of mud and worms, how disgusting.
Fortunately for him, Horyo wore a thick heavy parka. The fabric was soft and light, but the cloth itself was heavy and thick. This kept him warm, but held onto the wetness of the rain mixing with sweat from earlier, giving off an odor of wet fur.
While moving the water away, Horyo spoke in a calm voice to the new arrival, "My name is Horyo, and I am from the Northern Water Tribes. I am exploring the Earth Kingdom and supporting any fighters in this endless war."
In a few minutes time, he had already dried up the branches and the ground around them, and he pulled water out of his clothes and hair. The parka felt lighter and easier to carry. Though he still clutched onto his prior bitter, due to a loss of a jade dagger, a weapon he had won in a fierce fight with a merciless Firebender (who had killed an innocent family, probably, just to obtain it). Since then, the dagger possessed a symbolic feel, a mark of his struggles against the Fire Nation. He remembered so clearly, that on it were words etched onto its smooth green surface, "Made in Earth Kingdom: Blade of Royalty."
