"Where I lived, war didn't come." Matsu said, thinking about the bustling Fire Nation city he had lived in. "I didn't want to join the army, not at first." He stopped and shook his head, he shouldn't be talking about this, not with someone who was a complete stranger to him still. He looked over at her in the dying light, soon it would be completly dark. He hunkered himself down further so he could see her better and be away from the wind. "You've helped me a lot, and have had no reason too...thank you."

"No need to thank me. I just enjoy doing unreasonable things." offered Fenny. The moment of vunerability had passed; she was now back to her snappy ways. "Anyway, my karma could have been alot worse. I could have gotten stuck with her." Fenny jabbed her chin in the direction of Hati, who was talking avidly with Noa. "Poor soul." Fenny added, observing Noa briefly.

"I think he's enjoying it." Matsu shook his head. "You could have sold her that hat, you could have bought some drinks with it. Or your own sand sailor come to think of it." He could still see that had vividly, that was a very bright large hat. "Maybe you could fan yourself with it." He suggested.

"It was a matter of principle." Fenny answered stiffly. Then she broke into a wild grin. "Though I would have busted a gut laughing is she'd put the dumb thing on. 'Fine taste', my foot! The thing's ridiculous!"

Matsu shifted his weight to his hip and plucked the hat up and lightly fanned Fenny with it, offering her a small tired smile. Matsu was struggling not to fall asleep now. He hadn't slept during the day earlier, instead he had insisted on trekking forward through the hottest part of the day resulting in the killer sunburn that was making him ache. "How much longer will this take?"

"Until sunrise." Fenny smiled, then frowned uncertainly at him. Even in the dark she could see Matsu growing paler. "Are you alright? You look kinda unwell."

"I haven't slept since yesterday afternoon, the day before I walked through the desert." He said wearily. "The only thing I have ate or drink is what you bought me at the bar." He said honestly. He closed his eyes and weakly moved the hat, hoping the giant thing would keep him awake.

"You've got to stay awake. Otherwise you'll be asleep tomorrow evening and we might leave you behind." Fenny reached back into the bag behind her, trying to find something that might be of help. "Sweater? No... Teapcup? No..." Fenny fished out items and dropping them in Matsu's lap as she searched for a waterskin or some kind of aloe. "Pearl Necklace? No... Human Sku- HOLY!" The skull she dropped on the floor of the sandsailor in shock. The thing rolled away harmlessly. "Okay, maybe I should look in another bag." She climbed off the bag of grain and began rustling in another box.

Matsu kicked the skull away as he sat into a better position. "Should you be going through someone else's things? What if they push you off? I wouldn't be much help if I jumped off after you." He rubbed his arm, something he had been doing lately and pinched it to make sure it was still good. With a jab of pain he was for certain that the rest of his stub wouldn't fall off.

"Don't be such a drama llama." came Fenny's muffled reply from inside the box. "Aha!" She pulled herself back out with a skeen of water, which she immediately handed to Matsu. "It's not like I'm stealing or anything. I'll put fresh water in it when we stop." She sat down next to him this time, prefering to be as far as possible from the skull.

Among the crowd on the sand sailor a commotion started up. A young boy and his brother were sitting beside an older man. The boy, being not much older then eight, had a hard time sitting still and kept bumping in to the man next to him. "Hey Kid, you'd better stop that." The ill-tempered man grumbled quietly. The man was stuck in between the kid and a wall, and with such fierce heat the man had a short fuse. The child tried to sit still, but he just couldn't stop himself from fidgeting. This angered the man further, and he immediately shoved the little boy. "What did I just tell you, you little-" He never got to finish his scentence as a blast of sand sent the man flying off of the sand sailor on to the dunes they traveled on. The child's brother, sixteen years his senior, stood glaring for a moment.

"Whats a llama?" Matsu asked immeditly. He took the water from her greatfully. He placed it between his knees and carefully tried to open it, but he still succeeded in making water gush out of it and onto his pants. He sighed unhappily and then took a drink from it, handing it to Fenny still open. The rush of sand whipped past him and Matus's eyes flashed. He dropped the water skin and then stood up, putting himself between Fenny where he thought the earthbending came from. "Matsu! WATCH OUT!" Matsu felt the wind off of the boulder as he dodged it. The earthbender who threw it was soon dead at Matsu's hand, his body smouldering. Matsu shook, why was there earthbending on the sand sailor?

Fenny suddenly found herself crushed between Matsu and the luggage as sand whipped over the sailor like an angry wave at sea. Was that a scream? "What happened? Did somebody fall off?" She squirmed out of Matsu's grasp. "I think somebody fell off. Why aren't we stopping?"
The sandsailor plowed on. To shocked to remember to wait for Matsu, Fenny climbed over the boxes toward the sandbenders moving the sailor. "Someone fell off! We have to go back!" she shouted to the man on the upper deck. He shook his head and contined to push the sailor forward. "Are you crazy?! We lost someone! They'll be stranded in the desert! WE HAVE TO GO BACK!"

She'd been sitting there silently the entire time with her knees held tightly against her body and her chin propped up on her knee. She'd been thinking about her family and life for a long while. She blankly stared at the miles and miles of sand as everyone else bickered amongst themselves. There was a sudden scream and Kyi was snapped out of her hazy state. She abruptly lifted her head and looked around herself. Someone seemed to be missing.

Ryu was thankful that most people seemed to be paying attention to the fact that someone had fallen off. He would rather have that then have attention drawn to himself for chucking the troublesome man off the sand sailor. "Sit down Yasu." Ryu told his younger brother. He decided he would let others deal with retrieving the man. He felt no responsibility. Nobody was to harm Yasuo while he was still breathing. The little boy quietly complied, sitting close to his much larger sibling.
