Noa smiled at the first person who had actually gone out of their way to introduce themselves (without asking for a drink).
Noa held out his right arm for a hand shake and said proudly, "The name's Noa."
His face suddenly went blank as he realized his acquantance couldn't give back the gesture (literally). Noa quickly switched hands to cut short the awkward moment and actually grabbed Matsu's hand with both of his with a firm shake, "A pleasure to meetcha"
Noa's houlders then jumped at the sudden, "Stop snikering!" As he glanced back to see the two women still in a fiesty mood.

Hati's face clouded over in anger but she flounced onto the loaded down sand sailor and sat herself down, AWAY from Fenny. She spied the man talking to Matsu and waved eagerly to him. If Fenny could have a man attached to her hip obviously she could.
Matsu nodded to the sand sailor. "Noa, I think you have someone who wants you." With that he edged away from the hyperactive (in his opinion.) water bender. He clambered ontop of the sailor and then sat next to Fenny, hoping she wouldn't explode on him.

Fenny sighed and settled into a bag of grain as the few remaining people climbed onto the sandsailor with Hati, Matsu, and Matsu's new friend. As the sandbenders pushed off, she set the hat down nearby and tried to find a good angle so she could watch the stars. They'd need to stay awake all night if they wanted to get into the rhythm of this journey.

"M-Fenny." Matsu looked at her curiously. "Are you going to be okay?" It was kind of him to actually seemed to be really concered aobut Fenny's emotinal well being. He leaned back slighlty, trying not to touch anyone. He stared across the desert. At least having been a soldier gave him some edge on staying awake and prepared.

“Hmm…” Noa turned to the direction Matsu pointed at. It was one of the ladies who had just settled their womanly bickering. She was looking right at him with beautiful blue eyes. “Oh!” He replied to Matsu, “He seems like someone does. But wait,” he stopped. He then whispered to himself, “This is exactly how it started at the bar…” He turned around to see Matsu had already went to get seat somewhere. Turning back to the woman he murmured to himself as he started having second (and third) thoughts, “But she’s cute…and I can’t help it if a woman has just good taste.”
Noa decided to forget about ever having a grudge, “I can’t leave damsel in distress,” and walked over to her with a sly grin. “Good day, beautiful. Some sunny weather were having.” He insisted on sitting down right next to her.

Fenny's hand appeared over the edge of the bag. It flapped uselessly at him, as if batting away his doubts. Fenny was not one to break down easily. Sure, she was forward and chatty and maybe even childish sometimes, but she liked to keep inside things inside. Well, that's what she kept telling herself anyway. The hand fell back again. "Do I really look that bad?"

She smiled broadly at Noa when he sat down by her, she liked men like him. Maybe he could help her get started with her new fashion business in Lotus City, or protect her from easily angered women like Fenny. "My name is Hatsuon, Hati for short" She said brighly, seemingly over the spat with Fenny.
He shook his head. "I thought you just might be angry." He glanced over at Hati, she was worrisome for sure. "Something exploded in the oasis....it could have just been in my head though. With the heat and all." He trailed off then offered a lame shrug.

"I'm not... okay, maybe I'm still irritated at miss doo-lolly. But I can beat her up if it comes to that." Fenny wiggled her toes inside her boots. "Maybe guys just don't think about it as much. I dunno. But... my clothes mean alot to me. When you... ...it's just more personal than picking something up off a rack." Fenny began to wax vunerable, but found she didn't know what to say.

By the way Hati dressed, he figured should at least 'try' to be gentleman-like, so he bowed, "Miss Hatsuon, you can call me Noa...short for....well, it doens't really have a short version," he chuckled as he adjusted his waterskin strap.
He looked at her and just realized her complextion and eyes. With an awed expression he pointed at her, "Are you from a Water Tribe?"

"Its differnt for the both of you. It appears she has the money to buy something new every day." Matsu frowned, this was leading the wrong direction. He didn't want to say she was poor. "Maybe I could get something new from her." He said lamely. "Even during battle I didn't go this long without at least having what I wore washed. I'm surprised you'll come near me."
Hati smiled broadly. "I was! I was born there anyway, but my parents and I left and they opened up the spa in Omashu." She touched his shoulder. "Are you a waterbender? It'd be marvalous if you could help me!"

Fenny shook her head. Matsu didn't smell that bad to her. Pirates didn't bathe but twice a year, so she had gotten used to bad stenches. "Was it bad? Fighting the Fire Nation soldiers?" Fenny murmured to him after a moment of silence.

Matsu was silent. He was one of the firenation soldiers. He rubbed his face and then frowned some. It was all propoganda, he had expected the earth nation soldiers to be cruel and horrible. True they were, but that was because it was war. He saw scared faces, terrified of the flames around them. He closed his eyes tightly. "I...wouldn't know, I...didn't fight...the accident put me out near the beginning of the battle." This was a blantant lie. He remembered the battle clearly, every step of it as he burned the ground in front of him to come hand to hand combat with the first wave of earth kingdom soldiers. He manged to survive that one. The soldiers had retreated some as his batallion had broken the first line. There were earthbenders everywhere, some of the young ones fleeing alongside soldiers from his own. The last thing he saw was trying to save the soldier next to him who was sinking into the sand, then the pain that tore through him. Matsu's body shuddered for a moment as he tried to repress the memories. "Its all.....lies." He said.

Fenny reprimanded herself for bringing it up. He had suffered: she shouldn't be bothering him with a terrible past. "I... was sold into slavery under a firenation general." He deserved some information from her in return. Maybe it would comfort him to not feel so alone. "The soldiers treated me like trash... like some toy to play with. I don't think they even saw me as human." Fenny bit down hard on her memories, trying to keep them from flooding her emotions too fast. The despair of losing her clan, the pirates, being sold like a hunk of meat. Being treated like a hunk of meat. "And these people were somebody's sons. There were people waiting for them back home. I couldn't feel too sorry for them though. They wouldn't have that." she paused. "I guess that was the only time I've actually been afraid of fire." Fenny rolled over, leaning on her arms so she could look at Matsu. "So don't feel too bad. You were fighting for something worthwhile."

Matsu frowned. He never knew that people were sold as slaves he had heard a rumor but it had been quickly been squashed by his commanding officer. "I'm sorry that happend to you. They weren't real soldiers." He looked at her, his facial features softend, even though it was getting almost to dark to see them. "Taking lives is not something I am proud of. Life should be respected, no one should be treated the way you have been treated." He shook his head. Fighting for something worthwhile? He didn't see it that way now. The Fire Lord had been simply power hungry and had wanted to defend its stolen land. Thats what had happend to Matsu, protecting land that didn't belong to them. "It wasn't really worthwhile. If given the choice I would have stayed home, I'd be home...helping my parents make jelewery to sell to the rich and royal."

"Staying home wouldn't have helped." Images of fire and blood came to Fenny's mind. Staying safely away from the war with her family certainly hadn't helped her. "Something would have happened and you would have ended up fighting anyway." Her fingers curled around her necklace for comfort. At least here she could travel under the sky, safe within the sight of the spirits. She wasn't locked up anymore.
