Ok well I'm going to be quite honest about this, it happens all the time, he was just stupid enough to get caught. Bottom line. This happens all the time, on a street and official high end level. Just like the mob and gun running etc. This is nothing knew to me, more just pathetic and degrading.
Now onto Vick, I think he deserves what ever punishment they see fit. Also, although pitballs are not the only breed that frequently attack humans, they are known to have a violent temperment. But this should not have anything to do with the fact that some idiot had to go use them as weapons against their own for personal preferences.

if your kids are gonna follow athletes than they are extremly moronic. athletes aren't role models. look at the past. O.J Simpson, Tank Johnson, Michael Vick, Jamal Lewis, Ricky Williams. if we have learned our lesson it is not to look up to these guys as role models.

I was listening on a radio show this morning and they had and interesting point. The media and the public are so up in arms about a pro athlete killing/beating dogs but they almost never care when a pro athlete is found beating his wife.

Because nobody cares if anybody beats his wife...and another one warped wrinkle in the story...a person always has the option to leave.

Whether they like it or not. When you see a young star being interviewed, the question always comes up, "Who do you look up to in your sport?" The kid always has a quick answer. Do all professional athletes behave in the way that a role model should? No. It's a tragic fact, considering their place in society and salary IMO.

If your kid wants to follow big athletes guys, let them. Not all guys are as idiodic as the ones you named. Look at some of hockey's biggest stars. None of them ended up doing things like this, they all ended up being really nice guys. Guys like Sidney Crosby or Wayne Gretzky or Daniel Briere. It's guys like that you want your kids to look up to, the big stars that actually care about their communities. Guys like Crosby, who helps local kids in Pittsburg with hockey camp or like Briere, who came back to Buffalo after being traded to help locak kids learn how to play. I think that, to an extent, people typically care more about athletes doing things like dogfighting rather than beating their wives. There are more places concerned with the welfare of animals than of humans. I think that we just need people to crack down on things like this, be it threating your wife or dogfighting. I think the NFL really needs to get it's act together after this incident. They should be harder on their players and they should try to prevent another incident like this from occuring.

Because nobody cares if anybody beats his wife...and another one warped wrinkle in the story...a person always has the option to leave. So then, what's the lesser of two evils? But then that answer is totally contingent upon that person's own personal beliefs? And b/c I don't want to tread in water too deep, I'll just leave that one open.... But grangran there was Kidd, the basketball player for the Nets that was receiving a lot of unwanted(to him) attention about his wife's assualt accusations. But that's the only althlete I know of, so I really can't expand on that.

Vick's ruined either way you look at it. He plead guilty to a fairly deplorable crime. His rep is destroyed--except to the people who love football and dogfights I suppose. No company's going to endorse him, and I'm seriously predicting expulsion from the NFL. As for athletes being role models, they are--especially to kids who want to grow up and become athletes themselves.

He is not pleading guilty to Federal dog fighting charges and illegal gambling. A gambling conviction is a mandatory ban from the NFL, according to their own rules.

if he doesn't get charged with gambling, he will be back in a year or two No. He is charged with gambling, he's just going to plead "not guilty" to that charge. Edit: I take that back, apparently it's the rumor behind "The additional charges". I heard it this morning on the radio. Here is a source on what's currently going on: The Sports Network" On Monday, Vick's attorney, Bill Martin, released a statement to announce that his client had accepted a plea agreement with federal prosecutors, who were reportedly working on additional charges against the embattled Atlanta Falcons quarterback. Vick was charged with conspiracy to travel in interstate commerce in aid of unlawful activities and sponsoring a dog in an animal-fighting venture. He is expected to enter his guilty plea this upcoming Monday in U.S. District Court in Virginia. " edit2: MORE. Apparently it's listed in the indictment. *shrug* sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2989037"Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick will not admit to killing dogs or gambling on dog fights, as detailed in his indictment, when he enters a guilty plea in a Richmond, Va., federal court Monday, a source close to the case has told ESPN. Instead, the one count of conspiracy that Vick will plead to will admit guilt to the charge of interstate commerce for the purpose of dogfighting."

Actually, now, he is pleading guilty to funding and sponsoring dogfights as well as putting down the losers. sourceVick's worried about his precious $100 million contract and wants to keep it. If anything though, he needs to wisen up and start admitting to everything. If not, his "buddies" who know more than what Vick's letting on are going to sing for a reduced sentence.
