Pink Floyd is possibly the greatest band that ever existed. Does anyone else on this forum listen to Floyd?

I'm surprised there's no thread dedicated to Pink Floyd, yet. I used to listen to them ALOT, but I sort of burned out on them, and now I only appreciate hearing a song here and there. My favorite albums are: Dark Side of the Moon, and Animals. Wish You Were Here is pretty good too.

Yes indeed it is suprising that there is no floyd temple here... UNTIL NOW i offacially dub this thread the pink floyd temple.
i dont know about the burnout, i can see how that could happen although im currently in a huge Floyd binge....
on a different note does anybody here remember vera lynne? remember how she said we would meet again some sonny da?

I like listening to Pink Floyd now and then. PF is one of my father's favourite bands so he would play some songs in the car sometimes and I started to like them. Dark Side of the Moon is a very good album, I agree

I've been getting into Meddle a lot recently. "Echoes" speaks for itself, but you've gotta love the obstinato bass in "One Of These Days."

I personally like Meddle, Dark Side, and Wish You Were Here the best because the band basically work more collaboratively on these three albums more than any others and it shows in the craftsmanship of them.
The Wall is good I agree, but I don't think it reaches the caliber of these three because it was so dominated by Roger Waters. The whole album, including the movie is about Waters. If you think about other band-made movies, i'm thinking of the Beatles in particular, it's usually about the entire band.
Also, Richard Wright (the keyboardist) was fired by Waters and hired as a studio musician for The Wall. in other words, Pink Floyd was going down when the Wall came out.
In other words I like the Floyd at their peak basically.
Also: have you guys watched The Wizard of Oz synched with dark Side of the moon or Echoes synched with 2001: A Space Odyssey? i've seen both, but I was wondering if you guys knew about it.

I did Dark Side of the Rainbow not too long ago and strung together Jupiter and Beyond the Infinite on YouTube after that. It's an experience to say the least, but it's coincidence, nothing more. What's really fun is if you synch Wish You Were Here with the classic anime Akira. That's a fun ride.

Akira huh? I may have to try that. that sounds awesome.
i know it's coincidence, but at the same time I was curious if anyone here was brave enough to venture into watching those things. After all 2001 can be a very creepy movie (and that's why i love it) and The Wizard of Oz is an acid trip waiting to happen.

Don't like them. Find their music rather dull and boring, honestly.
And I still don't get why people love the solo from Comfortably Numb so much, I've listened to it 5 times and I still don't get it.

Why does any guitar solo rock? It speaks to people in a visceral way. Also, in the context of the rest of the piece, it's violent and primal, like a taste of the fascist dictator Pink will hallucinate himself as later on. If it doesn't speak to you, then it doesn't. Tough luck. Sorry you're missing out on it.

More dedicated listening =/= bad. I may not listen to the Velvet Underground, but I won't deny how influential they were.
Besides, the Floyd's much better than a lot of the schlock that's out there now. At least Pink Floyd tried to be a bit more intellectual in their approach to music and say something significant.

I love Pink Floyd. I even have pink floyd pajama pants, lol. Dark side and wish you were here are my favorites...but I also really the song "The Trial" off The wall. The video for it is just so great to watch, and the animation is fantastic. Also: have you guys watched The Wizard of Oz synched with dark Side of the moon or Echoes synched with 2001: A Space Odyssey? i've seen both, but I was wondering if you guys knew about it. Iv'e heard of that Caladbolg, I really want to try it sometime, though I've heard that it is truly meant to be watched like that when someone is high...its supposed to highten the experience or something like that. Needless to say, I don't think I'm gonna be doin it that way. XP
