Does anyone know how Katara gets her hair in that style? As we can see when her hair is down, it is incredibly thick and wavy, yet her braid is quite thin. I want to know because her hair is pretty cool and because this question has been bothering me since Katara's debut.

I'm going out on a limb here.
I'm assuming she divides her hair in half. The top half is made into her bun and the second part is made into her braid. Also, I'm assuming the wavy-ness is from her hair being in a braid and bun all the time. My question is, how does she get her hair beads on and what she uses to keep her hair loopies in place.

Well they do have a certain kind of hairstyling device for putting beads into one's hair. The part that appears to look like beads in the bun I think is some sort of pin or clamp type device that we can't see completely because of the way the hair is bundled up into a bun. Her hair is probably naturally curly when down.

As an owner of hair like that...like actually waist-length and that thick (but curlier probably)...I will say that when you braid it, it squishes down the curls and waves a bit and smooths it all down. So unless you're Meng, the braid's going to seem a lot thinner in comparison. Although I wouldn't say Katara's braid looks that thin.
I actually tried to do her hairstyle once. My attempt at doing her hairstyle was to first take my hair like a ponytail and make a little loop of hair for the bun and tie it off with a band, and then braid the rest, leaving two bits in the front for loopies. Then somehow tuck the loopy ends into the bun-loop. I thought that maybe she has some sort of stick or bar inside the bun-loop where she can snap in her loopies (like in TOBBS). I didn't have any beads or anything at the time to try for the total loopy experience though. I had to twist or braid my loopies to get them to hang like that though...hers are so neat and tidy.

Ok firework, here's an answer going by experience. I have long, thick, wavy hair too. If I braid it, I do it while it's wet. It stays in the braid better that way and even when it dries it doesn't look as thick.

I do that too..sometimes i HAVE TO brush my hair in the shower because of how thick mine is..But i love my hair ;D

Wellz, my hair is pretty much the same style as Katara's, just a different color, and my braids are pretty small. I've tried to put my hair in her style and it worked, all but the sideways bun, it fell out real fast...lol
Maybe it is just luck...haha
