Turn-basedPros: -There is more time to think about your current and future actions. -There (most likely) a wide variety of skills/spells to unlock/use. -The graphics are VERY well made and VERY stunning. -Very relaxing if you want to get away from intense games. (usually...) -The characters are usually well-voiced. -Just plain fun to play! Cons: -It takes forever to finish one battle, regardless of the opponent's level. -Because of the many spells/skills, finding all of them can be very long. -The graphics can take a long time to be through or to load. -The long battles can take you off the objective or destination point and you go the wrong way. -A chant or battle cry is usually long and cheesy. -Is NEVER an option for one who is impatient. XP Real Time[/u]: Pros: -In any battle, there is quick, fast-paced action. -Skills and/or magic can be fun to find. -The background is usually interactive. (When you hit a tree, an apple falls.) -The speed will keep the player focused and entertained. -The voices are loud. XP (The only thing I could think of) -For those who want quick, invigorous games. Cons: -It's hard to choose your action in a second's notice. -The number of skills and spells are limited. -The graphics are poor or not as attractive when compared to Turn Based. -The speed of the enemies/game can be confusing and you have NO idea what you just did, but you died. -The voices are usually grunts and snorts. -NOT for those who hate not knowing what heck just happened...

I like real-time battles, like in Star Ocean and Kingdom Hearts. It's usually funner and more fast-paced. And you have much more freedom of movement. While turn-by-turn gives you a better chance to make moves count, usually turns are decided by speed. If your character(s) have low speed, they will most likely get massive damage or even get killed in a tough fight before you can respond. You can't dodge moves unless your evasive stat is high. Plus, if you find yourself in trouble in a real-time battle, you can RUN FOR IT!!!! XD

I prefer turn based just be cause i don't feel rushed. Though i don't mind psedo realtime where the monsters will attack you if you take too long to act.

It depends on the game you are playing. Some just wouldn't work with real-time, just like others and turn-based. For me, Final Fantasy just wouldn't be the same with real-time battle sequences. But Kingdom Hearts and X-Men Legends would lose appeal if they were turn-based. There is one game, though, that I would like to see in real-time... Pokemon. They could definitely pull that off.

I prefer real-time over ANY game...regardless of series. I'd buy anything if it was real-time...If i had the money XP

I like turn based as that gives time to plan your battles, heal and make an awesome strike when the time is right. Real time in a RPG is a little rough sometimes, in Zelda and Star Ocian its pretty fair but the realtime battles in Final Fantasy XI really put me off. It really depends though

Well Square is changing there ways, the next Final Fantasy Game will be a real time RPG, so suspect to be more like Final Fantasy XI but more active. With the release of Elder scrolls IV Oblivion and the preview of Fable 2, its seems the real time RPG became the dominant thing this generation.

This topic makes me very sad, mostly from the "concs" aura listed for real time.

That sucks, I am just not a fan of real time in RPG's. I guess its all emulation from now on, the good ol days of turn based RPG's... Real time might work for Morrowind but doesnt work for Final Fantasy.

I'm assuming that by real-time you mean like Oblivion and Fable.
In that case, turn-based, because real-time is boring for me.
Turn-based you can't really get surprised.

REally? I always get surprised during turn based...I never get surprised in REal Time (I'm jsut oblivious to the current situation! (I once ran into battle and killed myself by falling off a cliff once...Then I wondered why I was dead...Then I realized that that was the Title Screen...Then I realized that that wasn't actually me playing a game, but my dreaming...Then I realized I was awake...Then I went back to sleep...) It's very thrilling!)

I didn't expect graphics would be an issue between the two. I thought battle graphics in KH are very well done compared to FFX. I actually like turn-based in most games (maybe it's because I'm more used to them) however I also like Real Time in Summon Night. The battle graphics were ok but nothing too bad. Problem with Turn Based is they get boring later on. At first you're ok you're battling however towards the end you don't want to battle random monsters because of the turn based which is a problem because the last boss is usually difficult and you have to go through some boring random Turn Based monster thing (so then often you have to go auto-pilot and just press attack all the way).
