Ever since I started watching the Funi version, I never miss an episode! It's really good! And I used to not care if I missed it or not.

A few of my friends are really into this show, and a while back they encouraged me to get into it, as well. So I got my feet wet with the first forty-five episodes, patiently watching as Luffy got together a small crew and became more and more notorious. But I stopped watching after that; it just wasn't drawing me in. Luffy's ultimate goal is to find One Piece and become the king of the pirates. I understand that it's going to take him a while. But the amount of exposition in the show and the sheer length of story arcs that could and should have been a lot shorter got old fast.
I'm watching Wolf's Rain right now to pass the time, but once I'm through with that I don't know what I'll pick up. So I need to know - does the show get better? Does he eventually get a crew together and head towards the Grand Line? Or is he still just sailing around without a real sense of purpose after three hundred episodes?

Oh, it seems like they've been in the grand line for quite awhile now... but the random, incredibly long story arcs keep happening once they get there. Of course, I don't know about 300 episodes, Toonami's still in the low 100s I think... but that doesn't mean the show hasn't gotten better.

The long, extended story arcs are particularly the main One Piece element. (If you read the manga, you don't have to wait as long for the plot to progress). One Piece is less about destination and more about the journey--as someone so nicely put in another thread. OP also relies on a good bit of action and characterization as well as creative artwork. And trust me, my greatest pet peeve with anime is InuYasha long, drawn out, pointless series with confusing plots. One Piece though, to me, is so much better.

I just appreciate One Piece for limiting their fights. Most of the arc is setting up for the fights at hand but its tied in with heart-wrenching, tear-jerking character development, gut busting comedic relief, and this unparalleled sense of adventure missing in most newer anime these days. Once the fights start they seem to have a perceived 1 on 1 versus theme among the crews.(which will be shattered in the up coming Hallow Bark arc) Each fight generally lasting a few episodes until they get to Luffy's which might last 5 or so episodes.
To tell you the truth I prefer that style of story telling in oppose to other anime, Naruto for example. The fighting in Naruto is great but it is so dragged out. By no means should it take an entire arc to defeat one person. They rush you to the fight and spend a good 20 episodes on it adding the character development during the fight.

Naruto seems to like to use fight time to show us why we shouldn't hate the opponent so much because they have such tragic backstories. Which I reckon they couldn't really do outside of fight time, because the main characters hate them and would have no reason to be talking to them unless they're facing them in a fight...

One Piece is less about destination and more about the journey--as someone so nicely put in another thread. Well, I can understand why there are some who can appreciate the series. But when "less about the destination and more about the journey" becomes "all about the journey" - I lose interest. It's why I stopped watching Naruto (Shikamaru is awesome, though ;p) and Bleach and all those mainstream, drawn-out animes. I tried to stay into them, but there was no end in sight. Thanks for the responses. Who knows? Maybe I'll start back up again sometime.

Wow. Tonight's episode got me incredibly excited for the future. Just as Luffy & crew are about to head (hopefully) for Sky Island, we're really starting to get a deeper look at the world in general... the Elders in charge of the Navy and pretty much the whole world, and their connection to the Seven (currently six) Warlords, plus the White Beard Pirates and the Black Beard Pirates, and Shanks is getting on the move, and Trace's name was mentioned.... Oh yes, some major, major stuff is about to start happening, I'm sure....

Haha, well don't get too excited, it'll be hundreds of episodes until they meet a single one of the Warlords.
Um, does anyone else think they are laying on the editing a little too thick? With Naruto having been broadcasted for a good 2 years, don't you think kids are jaded to the whole sight of animated blood and impact?

Yeah, the serese seems to move faster now. I wonder if they edited that too. But yeah, it is still a lot of episodes and it might never end!! But its a ton better now. I never miss a episode eather and I actually pay attention. xD
You think that Naruto is not edited enough? I think most kids are ok with it. I was never phased by the sight of blood as a kid, and a lot of little kids like the show (thats why no T-shirts come in my size)
But anyway, back to One Peace. Im glad that the fights are a little bit better and the fact they they actually bleed is the best. It makes them human.

Well yeah I watch both series in their original form, and even though both are edited Naruto seems more lenient on what they allow to go into their broadcasted version. As for One Piece's episodes being edited to progress the story faster, in fact it was the other way around. Compared to 4Kids, FUNi is leaving the anime relatively untouched when it comes to the episode itself(not the content in it). 4Kids actually took out entire arcs to get to the action faster. I guess waiting to see if 4kids would choose that moment in the episode to shower us with corny puns gave us the illusion that the story felt played out.
Plus being in the Skypia arc, the story will naturally progress quickly since they are geting to an ultimate goal.(no real time consuming character development in this one)

whats one piece? is it that weird, out of poportion show with all those pirate things? I haven't watched the anime, but the manga is one of the best shonen mangas out there. (Of course it's incredibly long...I still haven't caught up yet.) At first I watched the 4 Kids dub a few years ago (bad mistake), and took it as a piece of crap. About a month ago I started reading the manga out of a whim, and now I love it! The characterization is so wonderful; you fall for every character. If we are talking about out of proportion, we should talk about DBZ.

RP, take a look at the Funi version of One Piece. IT's wayyy better than the 4kids one!

Wow, tonight's episode was awesomely insane. I think I'm going to enjoy the sky islands arc more than anything that's come yet...
