I just think the Death Note... it was like it possessed him. So when it's gone, and he has no memory of having had it, it seems natural to me that he would be as he would have been if someone else had been Kira all along. But hey, it's okay if you don't expect something like a Death Note to display magical properties....

I know how it works. But even a posessor spirit leaves some sort of physical indication when it leaves, clueing the victim in to the fact that something happened, even if said victim never figures out that they had been posessed. So to have the Death Note leave no memory or physical indication whatsoever that they had anything to do with it? Give me a break.

Ah, because possession has to work the same way in all fictional stories, I see. Anyway, this discussion would be better off in the Death Note thread rather than the MAR thread.

Yes, it would. But this last word. Not necessarily. The posession itself could be handled any way the writer chooses, but there's ALWAYS some hint or clue that the victim had been posessed. I reiterate that to have there be no indication whatsoever that a person had any contact with a Death Note and it posessed them, as you suggest, my "friend", that is just preposterous.
