I think the saddest anime moment would have to be the whole movie of ,Grave of the fireflies is just sad all the way through.

The last two episodes of Blood+ when Saya is trying to put Diva's arm back on while screaming 'take me with you!' and then Haji in the balcony crash (even though it's okay later), and Kai carrying Saya up the long staircase with tears dripping down his face. Weeeeeep.
Also in Death Note when L died and later when Light died (agree that although he's a jerk his last thoughts are so pathetic and sad you just ache for what he could have been).

^ Good ones. I was gonna say when Saya's dad died. I knew he wasn't her real father, but wow that scene just grabbed me o.o

^^ I forgot about that one -- it was tragic. There's a lot of sad stuff in Blood+ (but I don't want to turn anyone off from it -- it's well worth watching!!). Solomon, Riku, the whole Schiff (sp?) storyline -- lotta stuff to sink your emotions into.

3) Samurai X: Reflections (When Kaoru and Kenshin reunited, then Kenshin died.) Boo! Not canon! But I still cried. I got sad during both OVAs.

Are we not bothering with spoiler tags? Is it pretty much implied?
Oh, well, just in case: SPOILER FOR FUSHIGI YUGI! As was mentioned before, episode 33, when Nuriko died. It was the first really major death in the show (Tamahome's family dying was shocking, but they weren't core characters). It's one of those things where you don't think the creator is going to go that far. I mean, Nuriko was there from the very second episode. And it broke my heart to see how his death affected the rest of the group. He was such a great friend to everyone. He's also my favorite anime character. I wasn't sure I could keep watching after that. (Though I did, and the show was still great) I just couldn't imagine Fushigi Yugi without Nuriko. I still get depressed every time I hear "Kaze No Uta," which they played at the end of that episode, even though it's a beautiful song.

^The wierd thing, I didn't cry when Tamahome's family died. I just kinda went, iono, "That was really low of Suboshi." But I cried so hard when Nuriko died that I spilled my cup o ramen, all over my purse. ;_;
More with Ayashi no Ceres (same lady who made Fushigi Yuugi). Ceres and Mikagi's relationship. They were so sweet at first, and then it all went down after she gave him some of her powers. I read the prequel to their tale (it was a one shot gaiden in a shojo magazine), and Mikagi really wasn't a bad guy at all. He was the first guy to show Ceres love when she thought all she was for was to procreate with men. Then he lost himself in his obsession of loosing her, causing him to be cruel to her and her children and killing innocent people in order to get stronger. Then he killed their first born, after which she killed him. And she never found her hagoromo, and she died, leaving her two surviving children. And in the end, they forgave each other. ;_;
That, and when Aya told Tooya that she was pregnant. It just made me cry when she told him that he wouldn't be alone in the world anymore.
Finally, all the death in that series period. I mean, Chidori's death, Shura's death, Aki's death, Tooya's inevitable death. It's a strong series and that's why I'm starting to like it way more than Fushigi Yuugi (sorry Tamahome!)

Although this doesn't technically count as a sad moment in anime, per say, it is sad in that it took less than 2 minutes to ruin my love for G Gundam and its main pairing, Domon & Rain. How, you ask? By ending the show on such a lame-@$$ note. I half expected to hear Celine Dion's "Power of Love" start blasting out as the credits rolled. Honestly, has there been a more cheesy ending? *Disclaimer: The above clip includes about 3 seconds of nudity, though nothing explicit is shown*

Hmm, the only moment in an anime that has made me cry is that episode in the first season was it....of Digimon. The part where that magician like digimon gets killed cause he helps Gatomon. ;_;
