I've just watched the 1st episode... Taken from wikipedia:- So far, it doesn't look too promising, but then its still to early to tell. The show doesn't give that realistic war feeling like Gundam Seed did. No one died in the 1st episode . Kinda feel cartoonish considering the genre they gave it. Lets see how it will turn out later...

They're definitely going for more of a gundam wing type approach this time around. Personally, what really hacks me off is the some of the super effeminate looking gundam pilots. Seriously I thought 2 of them were women untill they started talking.
There's seems to be a lot of different factions too and the series could suffer from not fleshing out this huge cast.

SEED Destiny just threw all logic out of the window and is considered one the worst if not the worst Gundam shows there is. It started out cool but ended in a Kira Yamato/Freedom Gundam wank fest. The overuse of stock animation and frame cells did not help either. Gundams in SEED were being stolen left and right like it was some commodity and finally 00 shows a Gundam with security systems.
Gundam 00 sure does have the Gundam Wing vibe but they aren't nearly as overpowered. There is some explanation to their strength(technology leaps and bounds better than most nations have and emphasis on stealth). It was emphasized if the secrets behind how the gundam work are discovered, the "overpowered factor" will disappear. I like the fact that the main characters aren't exactly "good guys" and their organization is morally ambiguous. SEED started to go downhill when Kira and Lacus started to spew self-righteous crap which really ruined the series for me and along with the stupid "no kill in war" policy it got unrealistic and ridiculous fast. I think it's okay to have people being self-righteous and what not if it fits the story but the show are portrays them as people who we should be rooting for...
Gundam 00 so far has a slow start. It has a lot of politics and world building and some good fights in the 8 episodes so far. Episode 9 preview seems promising and the action is picking up. Considering the director is the same as FMA, who is known for a slow uninteresting start and picking up after how many episodes.

I like the political setting in 00 but the characters (aside from Lockon, Haro, Graham, Sergei , and Ali) just don't anything for me. I really really dislike the effeminate designs and the fact all the women have boobs bigger than their heads. Gundam isn't suppose to be about fan service, it's at it's best when it's dealing with the realities of war.
As far as the combat goes, I sure it'll be better once the 3 nations get their technology up to par and give the gundams a real fight. Until then it'll be 1 gundam vs 100 grunts that explode on visual confirmation.

Actually you are exaggerating on the numbers of mobile suits they take on by themselves. It took the Gundams to team up to defeat a large force on Moralia that consisted of over 130 Mobile Suits in 2 hours and not all of those MS were destroyed anyway. That was the largest force Celestial Being faced in the show so far. Gundam Wing Gundams goes against numbers like those almost every episode, alone and wasting everything in less than 5 minutes. So the power difference is evident.
About the effeminate looking men, we can blame that on marketing. Gundam is very profitable franchise that easily spews toys and what not. Effeminate men are more or less something the studio forced upon the creators so that they can market to the female audience because that is exactly what happened in Wing and SEED. Same goes with fanservice. Fanservice has existed in Gundam well in the 70s. This is undeniable. It's just what is viewed as fansevice then and now are completely different. Note naked prepubescent girls in ZZ and boob flashing during the 80s Gundam series.
Just be glad that when they are in their space suits, their bust size doesn't show and are not bouncing like SEED was.

Me too. But it looks like Virtue will lose some weight in the next episode... I'll finally get to see how Psycho Hallelujah fights compared to nice guy Allelujah.

Why is the lead guy just a teen again... my pal said that it wouldn't be too believable that the younger pilots are better than the older, more experienced pilots.

He isn't better than the older pilots at all... What make you think being the lead makes you the best? Anyway the show seems to focus more on the group then Setsuna(the main guy)

Please, Setsuna SUX compared to Graham. That guy is a bad mofo. He's had encounters with both Lockon and Setsuna and was in control of both with his technically inferior mobile suit.
Ep 13 was more Graham awesome. This time is shows he's a veteran even outside his cockpit.

Episode 15 was jusr brilliant! Celestial Being gets thoroughly spanked. The Thrones make their debut as well...

Yeah I'll be starting it soon. Its really been a good while since I watched a Mech anime, aside from Gurren Lagann of course.
What are some things this anime does well. Gundamn has always ben good but there are people who say this could be considered the best. Whats a the rave about?

Well I'll reserve my judgment until the sries ends but 00 has a somewhat unconventional storytelling formula compared to other Gundam series..
