Thanks for the karma.
I am not saying Toph didn't change. She is the most underdeveloped of this season, in my eyes.

Sokka hands down, we've learned more about Toph and her character in one episode than we have with Sokka in two seasons. It's a total pity that during Book 2 all he is now is the annoying comic relief, Book 1 Sokka had much more character and actually could be funny. Exactly, not only has Sokka been on the show for a whole season longer. There has never really been something more to define his character nearly as much as Toph. In fact I actually think that her character has way more sides.

deana: Change=development. And Season 3? She received a lot of development in "The Runaway". She received less development in the whole of S2 than in one S3 episode
firerani: Sokka is completely one-dimensional. He himself admits he's a "simple guy with simple needs". He has a very simple personality. I still think he's a great character, but I like it when he gets his chance to shine and be a warrior, rather than being comic relief.

^There is no reason to argue about this! Deana and firerani stated their opinions on who the least developed character is, and you stated yours. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions; arguing with people isn't going to change their minds, just get them angry. Sorry, but I'm just a little testy right now.
I think Toph, though Sokka's a close second.

All we know about Sokka is that he wants to be a great warrior like his dad, but in the meantime is comic relief. I didn't like how in Sokka's Master he all of a sudden felt completely unworthy. It kind of came out of nowhere, except for the fact that Sokka needed something more to do than be funny.

How can you say Toph doesn't change? You're so dumb! She obviously changes! Haven't you seen the Runaway??!?! Are you that dumb you forgot a whole episode?!??!" Compare that with what I actually said. And I found it ironic how in Sokka's Master, Piandao says, "Let me guess, you're...." and he describes exactly what he is (best warrior in his village, travelled all around the world...) Anyway, Sokka's always been quite cunning. This shows he's also wise

Well Sokka has had two episodes that definitely, solely focused on him (Jet and Sokka's Master) with many other episodes featuring him in significant side stories (Warriors of Kyoshi, The Spirit World Part One, The Great Divide, The Storm, The Fortuneteller, Bato of the Water Tribe, The Northern Air Temple, The Waterbending Master, The Siege of the North Pole, etc...)
Whereas Toph only has her premiere episode to call her own, every other episode where she was prominently featured and only small roles in "The Desert", "The Serpent's Pass", and "The Guru" to equal Sokka's small roles in the aforementioned episodes. Every episode since has paired her with someone else (Bitter Work, Tales of Ba Sing Se, The Painted Lady, The Runaway, etc...). The episode we believed to be Toph's very own turned out to be Toph fighting with Katara... again!
It's not because Toph hasn't been around as long as Sokka, but because she has been pushed into the background so the plot can be crammed into the time slot.

neither Toph nor Sokka are one-sided. But I think Toph has definately had less development than Sokka.Sokka has had chances to stand out by himself. We've seen him in pain, sad, angry, in love, with acceptance issues, accepting his own weakness and finnaly becoming a man. Of all the characters Sokka needs to be himself and though comic relief is not counted as development, make referance that it is only the shell of his personality. He only seems shallow and non-contemplative, but we've learned that he wants to be his own man, someone of worth in saving the world, to gain respect and recognition from himself and those around him. Sokka is a boy with boundless potential, given you actually look into him.
As far as Toph, she is far less developed. Blind, and pampered but not bothered by it. She supliments self-confidence for being the greatest earthbender and is immature. She's been just a twelve years old earthbender with issues and disabilties. SHe's a great character, but other than breaking away from her rich-girl up-reering there is'nt much they've allowed us to see.

I don't see why everyone picks Toph. I think by now we can see a few main sides to Toph.
1. The teasing, confident, Blind Bandit. 2. The mask, Toph Bei-Fong, worn for Toph's parents. 3. The caring side we see in the Runaway.
I think Aang hasn't had much development in this season. I'd like to see some more focus on him.

Which is horrible since he's the main of the main characters and is the person whom the world and plot revolves around! Yet Aang is just this perpetually cheery kid who never matures, takes responsibility, or becomes serious beyond the demands of one episode or a little subplot (The Serpent's Pass). I would think that since Aang lost his entire civilization, has to save the world in a few months while mastering the elements which is supposed to take years, almost lost Appa, almost lost Katara, and screwed up the one chance to stop the FN, he would mature, but no, he still seems the same. The one time we see him as someone other than this energetic child is in The Headband and what a joyous moment it was to see Aang be an influential, charismatic, lady's man who actually had Katara blushing for once rather than stumbling over his own tongue trying to talk.

I voted for Aang. I realize this seems like a strange choice, but for a main character, he doesn't get a lot of the spotlight. Quite a bit has to happen before the finale, and I would like to see Aang take a more assertive role. I really want to see him talk about his feelings about defeating the fire lord, and maybe his worries about how to lead the nations after the war.

i am clearly in the minority, but i'm going with Katara. for being the female lead, she isn't terribly interesting. she's a little mary-sueish, actually. sure she has problems, faults, conflicts, but her problems get resolved really quickly, her faults are largely seen as endearing (being overly protective and motherly, even her crabbiness doesn't seem to get on anyone's nerves except Toph, who loves her to peices anyway), and her conflicts just seem to disappear.
Toph, who doesn't have a very developed past, is a well-rounded character with lots of personality.

Both Sokka and Toph kind of got the short end of the stick per se. But I chose Toph just because you just know...her parents thought she was weak, she hated it yada yada. Where you have a longer time to get to know Sokka...in a way. *shrugs*
