I agree with you Solva; Will Smith is one of my favorite actors and I can always trust the movies he's in are going to be good. And even the ones that aren't as amazing as I Am Legend or I Robot or Pursuit of Happiness, etc., they're always entertaining. Anyways, I love this movie. It's very provoking and interesting. I wish he hadn't died, but it just wraps it up all nicely. It was very sad too. Awesome movie though XD SPOILER TAGS WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE.

WARNING! The following review contains SPOILERS! I have to say, this movie was one of the most disappointing of the year. The first hour was great, you really get the feeling for Will Smith as "the last man on Earth", he is both hunter and the hunted. He's so isolated in such a large and famous city. The movie does an excellent job of setting up an atmosphere. Then... the movie declines. It ruins its own atmosphere by adding additional characters that seem completely unnecessary. Smith's character's flashbacks become more annoying than enlightening, causing the current story to drag rather than explaining how these events came to be. The dog's fate is irritating too, and seems to have been put in only for shock value rather than for any real emotional response. (Seriously, if he had handled helping the dog the way he tried helping some of the "monster people" or rats, that whole scene could have been avoided. You think he'd know better.) The addition of a female character and her son/little brother/cousin/whatever miscellaneous family member, shatters the illusion of utter solitude. It makes you miss the dog all the more, really. At least the dog wasn't annoying and cramming bible verses down Smith's throat when he's busy trying to ward off a hoard of angry zombie-vampires. And the feral zombie-vampire dogs... really. If this supposed virus made them so feral, they wouldn't be obeying the zombie-vampire humans! They'd just kill them too! That's why they're FERAL! Back to the girl and the token cute child following her, how did she even get on Manhatten island? Ferries weren't taking anyone there. She couldn't have swam there. She had a car with her, how did she drive that on an island? Or off it for that matter? And the movie's entire ending was just so contrite and unnecessary. Trying to make "fate" the deciding factor in the end to add a message to the movie, despite the fact that this theme hasn't been presented for the entirety of the movie, c'mon, really? If you're going to tack something on like that, at least make it more interesting. Grenades don't explode like that either, Mr. Smith. I'll forgive you because you are a good actor, and a fine one at that, but really. Shame... on... you...! In short, I'd say skip this movie until its on DVD unless you really just want to see a sensationalist film revolving around Smith running from zombie-vampires. But if you're the type of person who clings to their logic even when you're suspending your belief? Yeah, just don't bother. You'll just end up annoyed, especially because this could've been a good film. I can't help but feel that the first half was written before the writers' strike, and the second half was scribbled out by an executive just to get the film finished. Yeah, I agree that the film was a let down. "One of the most disappointing of the year" is a little harsh though, especially for this particular movie. This one brought about as much "realism" as one could to a movie about crazy zombie-like creatures, and a man who has lived alone for about 3 years. The reality of living alone for three years is that life is boring as hell, even with a dog named Samantha (R.I.P.).

I thought the movie was good, but i can understand why people didn't like it. i mean come on the whole movie it was him and his dog. (not saying anything bad about the dog).

There were a lot of scenes that made me choke up especially after the flashbacks to his family and after his dog got infected and he had to kill her... I almost bawled at that part... poor doggie... D= . I had no idea how it would end, but I guess I unconsciously was expecting it.

I think you both said what was truth. I agree, the ending did leave you with that "wow. That's all? kinda taste in your mouth and I will agree that the little boy and gal running through the middle of the movie made me eyeroll a bit. Wasn't the idea for him to be THE LAST MAN ON EARTH?!? No, the idea was to convey the perfect sense of loneliness. He's one person, trapped on what was once the capital of the world, alone. It was pretty d**n obvious there were going to be other people in it, almost as obvious as the dog dying. The Fred thing was kind of dumb, I thought. We go from all of them sitting in a giant circle jerk to coming up with plans and s**t? Made no sense. And I'm having trouble believing he couldn't do a f**king sit up until right before the dogs were on him.

Saw it a couple of weeks ago and it was awesome. It blew me away because it wasn't what i thought it was gonna be. I found out it was gonna be about zombie-type things on the way to the theatre. Im usually not into movies with mutated/zombie people, but this was good.

My friend had sensationalized it so to the point that I was scared of the movie before I even saw it. (Normally, she doesn't get scared by movies that easily but she had trouble sleeping the night she saw it). But then when I saw it, I really didn't see what was so great about it. To me, it was like a combination between "The Mummy" and "IRobot."

Plus the movie didn't explain it at all. Unless you've read the original by Richard Matheson, that part left you lost. That freaky circle jerk thing was by far the "scariest" in the movie. The original concept of the story is actually pretty cool. I would explain, but I'm too lazy to type right now. If your interested just look up Richard Matheson or something, i dunno.
