Army of Darkness. Bruce Campbell FTW
i don't really consider Ferris Buhler's day off and Caddy Shack as cult movies as they were wildly popular when they came out.

Ferris Buhler's day off Caddy Shack (does that count?) Same for me, and Add: Rocky Horror Picture Show. The original Star Wars Trilogy And yah, I would count Caddyshack. Long after the movie, there is still a huge fanbase, it's not a casual "need to see" movie. There is actually a large following for it with supporting websites, etc.

I guess I also need to add 'Outlaw Josey Wales' and 'Smokey and the Bandit'
Gotta know them at my house to earn a passing grade!

Thats certainly not a cult movie. Adaptationeh? 'splain yourself please. Still too popular, therefore not 'cultish' enough? I guess it depends on your definition of "cult movie". Sure its got an uber devoted fanbase, but it was very succesful, big budget, still very popular. And its not intelligent enough to be a cult movieReservoir Dogs

And its not intelligent enough to be a cult movie Ohhhhh, the truth comes out. *Force Chokes Kaneda* What do you think of them now? Seriously, If that's your definition, I'm cool with that. However, Rocky Horror Picture Show has long been called a 'cult movie', and its about as intelligent as "Threes Company"

You probably should have defined your criteria a little better then. You are correct on success. Star Wars is the second biggest box office hit of all time (USA Box Office). I guess if were are going to eliminate these movies from a "cult following" due to success, then we can place them in their own "legendary" category or something to that effect. If there is a cult to be found in this saga, it's people like me who still cling to the original series and shun the crap that was recently produced. I have mentioned before that I was a "Star Wars" kid. It was the first movie I saw in the movie theater, and I pathetically owned everything star wars after that (first 3 movies). No-one expected it to be a big booming success, in fact they had to change marketing strategies to try to draw in a wider audience in 1977, when it hit the box office. I was still playing with Star Wars stuff years after (the 80's), when it wasn't cool anymore, and had a few select friends that did as well. Yah... we were big nerds, a cult following you might say.
